Overall, my experience has been great. As with all software, there is a learning curve at the beginning. I am very pleased with Abicus law.

Pros

It is a very good to use program and makes looking for information after entry easy

Cons

when leaving contact fields open and searching for a contact on the "show only open cases" setting it likes to revert and have all my contacts EVER put in the system which makes it very hard to find what I am looking for sometimes.

The benefits are that it functions well with a multitude of calendaring and reminder options.

Pros

The features that I do appreciate the most is the links to other information as related to client contact information, relative calendar events and the ease of the tabs with regard to subject matter.

Cons

The only problem with be with the booting of the software upon initialization.

It was ok. Support was helpful but hard to get in touch with.

Pros

We recently swapped from Abacus to Cosmolex. Abacus had great reports and I really liked the billing. Cosmolex just seemed to fit our office better.

Cons

We didnt have the cloud based product and it made work difficult for our small office. I believe larger offices probably have better use than we did.

Generally, AbacusLaw has been great. My only wish is that I could do more with it on an administrative level.

Pros

It seemed intuitive. The ability to link documents to your matters, etc.

Cons

Having the ability to find everything through metadata.

Reason for choosing AbacusLaw

Generally speaking, it was just a gut instinct to select this program.

The flexibility in creating rules for events is a great tool. For a solo practitioner AbacusLaw is a godsend.

Pros

Completing forms and inputting data is easy and intuitive. Being able to keep track of events in AbacusLaw is so much easier than with other programs i have used (like Outlook).

Cons

Some forms are not compatible with Dragon Naturally Speaking which is frustrating.

The software provides me with reminders of things I need to do or file prior to the date. I love the date calculator feature and the ease of the Conflict check.

Cons

The thing I least like about the Abacus software is the Abacus Mobile. When my computers IP address changes it makes the app not work until I update it with the new computer IP address.

My office has used it for over 20 years, so it's familiar. If there were any major problems, the office manager would have switched to a different system.

Pros

It's tied into the billing system, so at the end of the week, there's just one place to locate charges.

Cons

Often difficult to locate names or matters that are supposed to be available directly with the name or number field.

We use Abacus for its Calendar and Client information and it meets our needs. When I renew our contract each year, customer service has been very efficient with following up with me. We have had this software for over 30 years.

Pros

We have used this software for over 30 years. This product is easy to use. We do not integrate it with other software.

Cons

I have no complaints about this software.

I love the database. It has everything I need to keep track of clients. I love the ability to change the screens to suit our needs and the ability to create and run simply reports on my own without having to pay a fortune to have one created.

Pros

Love the database. Been using it since 2000.

Cons

Too many unnecessary features for small business like ours who do not need the billing, documents, etc.

I used Abacus for over 15 years. I used their old CD based system with no problems for Case Management, but not billing or accounting. When they would no longer support the CD version, they forced me to go to their web based version. The price increased exponentially and was prohibitive for my solo practice. However, having used it for so many years, I was hesitant to give it up and lose the ability to access old client records on all computers. Their billing software is awful. Clients could not understand the bills and we received numerous complaints of its trust accounting reports on the bills. We had to stop after three months. When we called in for support and finally got a call back, the technician was rude and actually insulted my office manager. They were no help at all and they actually told us that they were more interested in their new ventures into cloud computing than law firm case management. We had to give up and now they have turned me over to collection asking for over $5000.00 in early cancellation fees.

Streamlining all file information to one software program.

Pros

All important file information is at your fingertips and easy to navigate. Any one in the office can access a file and know where things are at, add notes or get important information.

Cons

Some people have had trouble learning how to link things correctly, and have had a couple issues figuring out what formats or templates to use, and matters being deleted, but just takes time to get used to. It would be nice to be able to bold, underline things or chance text colors, but you can not.

Overall it is a good product for scheduling and reminders for upcoming briefs.

Pros

Great use for organizing time off and calendar planning for workload and time off. It is easy to keep track of attorneys scheduling.

Cons

Sometimes times scheduling can look cluttered when the calendar is full. It can be hard to read when everyone is off or in various places

Helps run my day to day efficiently

Pros

Makes calendaring events easy, links emails to files, handles billing. Customer support is helpful and efficient. I haven't had a problem they couldn't walk me through in just a few minutes. Support is helpful for both technical and administrative questions

Cons

Billing software is cumbersome and difficult to use. It is difficult to change time or, particularly, expenses once you've put them in. Email link is a bit "buggy" and doesn't always automatically like my emails to the matter.

Pros

I find Abacus crucial in keeping my calendar and appointments. Abacus Mobile allows me to track my appointments on my phone. I also find the accounting program crucial in keeping track of my billing hours and my monthly billing.

Cons

My only critique is that when my first five year contract expired, the cost almost doubled.

I've been with Abacus for more than 20 years. The program has improved except for accounting.

Pros

I liked the integrations of forms and billing.

Cons

The accounting system is difficult to use. If your clients pays you more than the invoice amount, it takes a call to support. Accounting needs a lot of work for imputing payments and credits.

Great service when it works. It is very expensive, but we may need to find another provider if we keep having issues.

Pros

It is really helpful being able to access our files remotely, especially during these difficult times.

Cons

Abacus crashes for us at least 2 out of our 5 work days. Sometimes only for a moment, but sometimes for a couple hours.

Pros

I love the ease with which I can change software applications. I can go from one application to another and my use is maximal.

Cons

The only con on AbacusLaw, as I stated before is the telephone system for tech support.

I can practice without a secretary.

Pros

Ease of access of court, client, and opposing counsel information, as well as calendar and diary reminders (critical for a one-horse show such as mine). Plus, the customer support branch is the best I have ever encountered for any kind of software, ever.

Cons

Too many features that are not important to me and get in the way. It is sometimes difficult to get to the task I want to perform without having to navigate around features that are unnecessary to my small practice.

The main benefit is what I see in the littlest things. Because the notes attorneys make, emails sent, and forms created are all in one area we are able to better serve our clients. Finding the answer to a question is quick. Being able to provide a more streamlined service to our clients means we have happier clients, happier team members, and a good work flow. It is a win, win, win!

Pros

The best part of this software is that everything is inclusive, the calendar, deadlines, notes, intakes, payment, email, forms, etc. It is all in one place and they all interact with one another. We used to have a different application for each element, now we have Abacus. One program that does it all.

Cons

The software is strong. But there are still upgrades to be made. It would be helpful to have the ability to start typing the matter name in all areas that it comes up rather then just the calendar (i.e. linking emails to Abacus) We also had some issues with the initial set up but our representative helped us through all of those bugs. He was amazing.

### "Don't buy it "

After doing my research, I decided to get Abacus 2 years ago (not the cloud based). It has not worked out as I thought it would. I got it because you can do billing and have the client information/case management in one software; technically, it is 2 separate software that talks to one another. The accounting part of the software crashes a lot, too. You may be working and have the time running and then it just decides that it doesn't want to run anymore and needs to restart. OK. Great. To do billing, it takes me a long time. You have to push about 15 buttons before you can get the bill. There have been multiple accounting issues that I have to deal with. It has miscalculated some amounts and I caught it because I pay close attention to my client's trust funds and what they owe the firm. The learning curve is HUGEEEE. It is a pain to learn and 1980s platform. Come On!!! There are so many quirks about it that the developer doesn't think at all about the end user. Customer service has been good overall. They don't always call me back when I have an issue or they call me when I can't talk to them. They are supposed to call back, and they never do. One time a customer service was essentially laughing at me, which is was nice. =( Soon, I am going to stop using and try to go get another one, which I am not looking forward to but can't bother with abacus anymore

Nothing. I wish I never bought it.

Everything.

It makes it very easy to manage our legal files in a cloud-based system, and to go paperless.

Pros

The software handles essentially all necessasry parts to all of my cases, which are cloud based, allowing me to use ONLY ABACUS to work on files. Everything is in one place, linked to the softoware, including emails and documents.

Cons

While is is very customizable, the interface to customize could be easier . Generally, I need to call ABACUS to get changes made (which they are great at doing)
