I am up and running with my cataloguing of my holdings, and am delighted to be able to make the information available to all those who are interested, on the Catalogit Hub. Pros The software package is intuitive and easy to use. It is always easy to adjust past choices if one's work flow evolves. The price is very reasonable for what one gets. The support is outstanding. Cons The software shows its origins a bit in some of the drop down menus. I think additional choices could be added by the developers. In fairness, the developers are always accommodating of requests for additional menu items from users. Collections hasn't been my main museum work up until now, but with CatalogIt, it was easy to complete a catalog of a 3,000-item library, and use the newly-created catalog to complete an inventory! The learning curve was fast, especially coming from Past Perfect, and once I understood the structure, the search functions and inventory control features were very helpful. When we had technical questions, support was responsive within 24 hours. Cons I'm sure there are more efficient ways to import data - we used .csv spreadsheets, and the field mapping took a little trial and error (some fields like "notes" appear in multiple places. But "undoing" and "redoing" imports was easy to manage. I can definitely recommend it for collectors of all types. Staff was very responsive and helpful too. Pros Easy to use, versatile software. I got up to speed quickly and am currently cataloguing a large collection of postcards, photos and other memorabilia. So far I encountered no bugs. This is definitely value for money (I looked at several other solutions)! Cons As I don't fill in all the fields that are provided, I have to do a bit of scrolling. Maybe one could customize the entry fields that are shown when cataloguing a new item? Also, being able to download the complete database would be an asset so one has a back-up on site. I am able to create entries on the fly, and flag them for later accessioning, as most of our collection has not yet gone through formal accessioning. Many fields I have not touched yet, but I know I can update at any time. I've shown the software to others with very little computer background, and the reaction has been positive. Pros Overall extremely intuitive design. I've been working with Catalogit for 4-5 months now, and have used it to catalog photos, maps, videos and artifacts. Our museum is 40 years old but this is our first concerted effort to properly catalog our collection, so we are creating the database from scratch (no previous electronic system or formal accessioning). I feel confident in training others with little background to use the system. I greatly appreciate the "Other Names and Numbers" field as I can link previous attempts to organize maps and photos. Also like the accessory resources (tools and training) that are available for all levels. It's mostly everything I'd hoped for. But looking for future updates as well. Pros CatalogIt has a great user interface and is easy to navigate. Becoming a new customer was easy given the import functionality, moving from a different service. The annual fee is well worth it. Cons One area of improvement would be someway to cleanup the main view of an item if you have many documents linked to it i.e. receipts, etc. Otherwise, the main view can look cluttered. Another area would be the number of levels for folders. Having at least one additional level for folders would be helpful. Pros There are so many things to like about Catalog it, but start with customer service, which is top-notch! My questions were answered almost immediately in a professional and caring manner, and even my special requests were handled without a hitch. A second factor is the very reasonable cost for the product. Thirdly, the team at catalog it has constructed a platform and entry system that should meet any requirement for recording pertinent information about an. artwork. It's perfect for collectors and museums! Cons There's practically nothing I can say I didn't like. The many different categories provided for providing details about an artwork may be a little complex for a small collector, but for a Museum they are necessary. It allows me to keep my large collection meticulously managed and perfectly curated. It is now a reference guide for me and I use it to log each doll as I acquire them. Pros I use CatalogIt to catalog my extensive collection of matryoshka dolls. I have over 300 sets and CatalogIt has been an incredible tool for documenting the collection. Through CatalogIt, I have created a unique numbering system and assign each doll a corresponding number. With each entry, I make notes about maker/manufacturer, date(s)/era, and place of origin. Additionally, I make notes about inscriptions/labels, conditions of the sets, and valuations. I also make general cataloging notes about their historical significance, provenance, and collectability outlook. Finally, I take and upload photos of every angle of every doll and any other receipts or pertinent information! Cons I guess I am supposed to write 100 characters in order to submit my response so I will use this space to say that I have been very happy overall with CatalogIt. Easy to use, intuitive, and customizable. Pros Easy to use software for museum and collections management! One of the most helpful features is the option to have multiple users working in the system at the same time. Thumbnail photo listings allow for easy searching. Love the ability to design displays and exhibits by sorting listings into new folders. Also, the CatalogIt team is very helpful, answering emails quickly and offering help before it’s even required. They transferred our records from PastPerfect quickly, without any problems. Cons We haven’t found any issues so far. The software has done everything we wanted it to do, and there were no glitches.
