Our global teams have access to Motel devices, our own devices (connected to Motel) and soon other companies devices. The customer support has been great to date and the devices we connect to are very quick. The existing features, like being able to compare devices side by side and the new Mirror test feature that enables a manual tester to mirror a test on one device across multiple additional devices offers real world time savings for the testing team. The Motel team has a clear road map and they have a real passion for making mobile testing both easier and cheaper for all. If you are involved in mobile testing you should review this service. Pros Easy to use, very quick compared to other cloud based mobile testing services, offers great value particularly when used for automation testing, supporting multiple concurrent runs. You are always using a real device - no emulators. The support team behind Motel are very quick to respond and as this is a new product to market, are very open to customer feedback and suggestions. Most impressive is the vision and strategic direction of Motel. We have worked closely with them since the products inception and the feature road map for Motel has some truely unique functions that will bring significant productivity gains particularly when manually testing with devices. The Motel network differs to others as they support the ability for companies to connect their own test devices (phones and tablets) to the network. This has enabled us to more efficiently share our own devices within the company and also share these with other users of Motel. This 'community' ethos is at the heart of the service. Additionally Motel has devices in multiple countries allowing easy Geo-location based testing to be supported without the need for complicated proxy set-up. I have used and spoken to many of the competitors over the years and the Motel service is quite unique in set up and offering. The road map makes this a service to watch carefully in the future. Cons Doesn't support desktop browsers, this isn't a one stop shop for all compatibility testing. For manual testing only on devices it's not the cheapest offering on the market. But these are all real devices and some of the features described above justify the slightly higher price. Very cost effective for automation. As this is a new service there are occasional gliches but the team always resolve these rapidly. Now we can be sure our apps work as the user expects on their device. Pros Easy to setup and get our tests running on a variety of mobile devices. Cons Nothing, it’s great. It's very hard to have so many devices available on-site and to share them across the entire organization. With MOTEL it was possible to setup a private node with the devices we already had and give access to them to all of our testers. Definitely a platform for mobile testing that I would personally recommend. Pros MOTEL is easy to use, after the login a list of devices is displayed and you can pick whichever you want and start using it as it was physically on your hand. Automatic tests are also possible and the support team has shown to very helpful solving problems that you may encounter on your way. Further, the team is very responsive to new features requests which is great. Finally, mirror testing one of the features that improved a lot the productivity when executing manual tests, it allows you to use one device and replicate everything that you do on it in up to 4 more devices. Cons Although the user interface is easy to use, a new design to the devices' list and to the manual test window would be good as they currently seem outdated and sometimes there is information overload.
