### "Fantastic Products"

April 11, 2023

4.0

It's a fantastic list of products and has been great for our intranet. Homepage, forums, blogs, gallery have been super.eCommerce store hasn't been used but I have used it in the past for other roles, it's a superb product with alot of customisation.

Pros

We like their self-hosted applications for use in our local environment which is used as our company intranet. It has been really useful and giving us more features than other software previously used which also had alot more issues coming up. The customer service has been great but ensure self-hosted installations are setup within a Linux operating system to ensure support is available. (limited support via Windows)

Cons

The pricing for renewals every 6 months are low, but in order to keep the site updated with any bug fixes, features etc. should be required, so it's worth keeping in mind.

Functionality was only available when installing third party plugins which then also caused issues with updates and so we wanted software which could give us the stability and functionality we wanted as our intranet.

### "Every Update Makes It Worse: Fewer Features, Higher Cost"

August 4, 2025

1.0

Honestly, fewer and fewer. The platform used to empower community-building and customization, but lately, it feels more restrictive. At this point, platforms like WordPress, XenForo, MyBB, PHPBB, and even Discord offer more flexibility and benefits — often at a lower cost or even free.

Pros

The UI is clean, and it used to be highly customizable with lots of third-party support. There was a time when the platform felt truly community-driven.

Cons

It seems like with every major update — like from 4 to 5 — they keep removing useful features that should be there. They started by phasing out the marketplace, which in my opinion was a huge mistake. Then in version 5, they removed even more functionality in the name of "security," which ended up costing us plugins and apps that brought meaningful and useful changes. With each version, the price goes up while the features go down.

Reason for choosing Invision Community

At the time, IPS was infinitely better, which is no longer the case today.

### "Best community software on the market"

April 3, 2025

5.0

My experience with Invision Community goes way back to circa 2004-2005 (I was still in high school) where I first dug my hands into forums and forum software in the good old Invisionfree days. Through the years I have created many communities, some successful and many others were anything but. Little did I know these experiences would only get me more and more hooked into this virtual world! Forums are communities of like-minded people sharing their knowledge, experiences, hobbies and most of all, coming together in a common place to just be themselves. I have experienced nearly every forum software out there, though I always made my way back to the Invision Community suite of products as I not only found it to be a very powerful and dynamic bit of kit, but it always provided the solutions I wanted and needed for my communities. If you have read some of the negative reviews regarding the team, take it with a grain of salt (I sure do!). The team strive for perfection and are not only extremely knowledgeable, but the way they connect and communicate with their community and clients are second to none. Every word of feedback and suggestions are read and taken seriously, they don't belittle anyone including those with negative approaches and you can read for yourself how they communicate with existing clients versus new members. They are respectful and know how to work together to produce something that is simply leading the market and this industry. Thank you, Invision Community. Not only for having the best community software, but for giving your clients and potential clients the very best in customer service. Each of you (and I really mean it) make up a great team and deserve all the praise. Forums, forum software, communities, however you word it, just wouldn't be the way they are without you.

Pros

Superior and powerful community software that exceeds expectation. Amazing team, combining knowledge from all facets of community management, forum software, development and the like. They are relatable and communicate effectively. Customer service is second to none in this market/industry. Everything is read, addressed and provided with realistic timelines. Feedback and suggestions are taken seriously and always discussed (whether internally or publicly), especially with strong support from the community. Deprecations are communicated concisely and with reasonable timelines. You will not be caught by surprise and are given more than enough notice to make the necessary adjustment/s.

Cons

The fact that this box exists. I have no cons, negative comments or dislike anything about Invision Community.

### "Best community forum software I have used"

April 12, 2019

5.0

After having used vBulletin and Vanilla (free edition) for many years, it was a real joy to make the switch to IPS. Even migrating from Vanilla was easy. Robust software and helpful and professional support.

Pros

An awesome content suite with a powerful and modern forum functionality to support your online community. They really kill the competition with their clean templates, powerful community management tools and awesome editor that has great functionality for adding pics and embedding social media like tweets.

Cons

If it only had better gamification options (badges, achievements) it would be perfect.

### "Steer Clear"

November 23, 2022

A few IPB issue samples:Autumn 2021IPS support suddenly communicates that we had changed the program code, effectively leaving us without support – if we did not reverse the change. The Support was, as always, very confident and not open to arguments. “Our flag shows that you have changed the code.” End of discussion. Since we had not changed any program code there was nothing to reverse. We then communicated that we had decided to leave IPS. A Support staff then, but not until then, manually checked the code and concluded that we had not changed a single letter. Another one of these bugs. No excuse was given, but we decided to return to IPS due to all the hours invested. A critical mistake by us when viewed in the mirror. Autumn 2021During our tests a large portion of new members’ registrations stalls. According to IPS Support everything points towards that our environment is to blame. Quite the contrary, during three frustrating months we did hundreds of user registration tests on all kinds of hardware, three different browsers, and two separate networks. With the same result. But not until a senior IPS developer was engaged the IPS Support blame game stopped. Within two weeks of testing and analysis, the error was found - in the IPS environment (the service worker)...

Pros

We are two information technology managers and consultants both having 20+ years of experience who decided to launch a community directed towards executives. We chose “Invison Power Board” (IPB) from Invision Power Systems (IPS) as the tool for this since it had one for our offering critical functionality. The software had also been around for 10-20 years (depending on how you count a major version upgrade) and could be expected to be stable. This explains why we stayed on board through an 18-month-long orgy of bug reports.

Cons

We used the SAAS “Invison Power Board” from May 2021 to October 2022. The application was used by two admins configuring and testing multiple use case scenarios and front-end designs. The site was plagued by quite a few issues. We estimate that the 18-month-long process would have taken us about 6 months with a stable and fully documented software, and an open-minded Support.

Reason for choosing Invision Community

...May 2022During our tests, a large portion of new members’ Stripe payments stalls which (once again) effectively stops new members’ registrations. Another showstopper. Again IPS Support points towards our environment, despite us once again presenting a solid test battery showing the same stalling issue no matter what environment we use. In August 2022 Stripe Support asks for specific information from IPS but this is never provided despite reminders. The stalling issue was never resolved.August 2022IPS Support does a ticket count and notes that we have filed 145 support tickets since May 2021. You might expect that this would render an excuse from IPS due to a software having more bugs than a stray dog. As you might guess by now, this does not happen. What happens is that IPS Support recommends us to look for an alternative community solution since they seem to think that we are to blame for their frustrating workload. A fascinating kill-the-messenger strategy. From August 2022 IPS Support reduces its support to us down to zero, thereby being in breach of the service agreement. We then escalate the case to the IPS \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] who reviews it and concludes that we are good to go ahead and use the solution. But since we still get no response from IPS Support we take a deep breath, cancel our IPB plan and let about 2000 hours of work go down the drain. We have now moved on to a different vendor where we have experienced about 5% of the issue frequency as compared to IPB./Joachim

### "Disappointed"

December 22, 2023

2.0

I've been a longtime Invision subscriber, both the software and their cloud hosting. Their off the shelf product remains best in class, but man am I disappointed with their cloud hosting. They're expensive, bureaucratic at every step, they don't provide ftp access, you have to go through them to perform backups and restores, they treat their customers like we're idiots and nickel and dime you every step of the way. The final insult happened today, when I'd finally had enough and decided to self host. They told me I'd have to pay $500 to change my plan (plus an additional $200/year for the service itself). I agreed (what choice do I have), only to get an error when I tried to download the software. So what do they say when this happens, after I've spent $500 for the privilege of switching plans? No apology, no circumventing the system to just get me the software I just paid for. Instead, I receive this note: "After reviewing your request, we have determined that it is going to require further investigation by our advanced support/development team. I have escalated your request to that department and they will provide further assistance as quickly as possible. Due to the advanced nature of your request, please note that it may take longer than usual to fully address your concern. Please also note that advanced support is only available Monday through Friday. I apologize in advance for this delay." They sent this on a Thursday afternoon, btw. I am so angry.

Pros

Their off the shelf product remains best in class.

Cons

They're pricey, bureaucratic, and their attitude always seems to be "the customer is always wrong.

### "One of the best Community/Forum building software"

September 30, 2022

5.0

It has been awesome experience using Invision Community so far.

Pros

What I like about Invision Community is that it allows you to create Community forum for your site with ease, and allows SSO integration with your Wordpress site, and you don't need to be a hardcore developer to do all that. Plus, it has extensive features like Badges, Profile timeline, Messages and much more, which makes it, worth it.

Cons

Nothing apart from it seems a bit pricey to me.

### "Highly recommended for building a community"

January 12, 2020

5.0

Invision Community has helped me to get more participating members finally. With online users having these days so many places to communicate with each other, a community/forum software needs to be offering cutting edge functionality. Invision Community does the job.

Pros

Invision Community has taken forum software to a new level, providing users with modern functionalities as seen on many social media platforms. The software is also well optimized to run smoothly on any mobile device. Core functions offer a lot of flexibility. The software is well documented and administration is mostly straight forward. It's also a great choice if the community should be monetized at some point.

Cons

Nothing really so far. It's been the best forum software I've ever used and worth the money. It would be nice to have a few more features for polls, e.g. to allow polls also for guests.

Reason for choosing Invision Community

Established and proven product. Paid software.

### "Invision Community and the Invision Board Has Always Been Our Sites Chioce"

November 5, 2019

5.0

They have kept my business from the free times of Ikonboard to the paid times of Invision by delivering a great product.

Pros

The Invision Community makes the some of the best forum software out there. It is secure, has a lot of mods, and can be installed on your own site or hosted by Invision in a cloud. They have decent customer service and the software itself has some of the easiest to use moderation tools out there. I highly recommend an Invision Board if you wish to have a forum for your customers, or fans. It has great security and stays well updated.

Cons

Sometimes database backups can be rocky to install when needed.

### "Great for desktop community"

May 20, 2020

5.0

it's alright if you want to build a community that would be based on your web browsers.

Pros

I loved how many plugins & modules Invision community brings to you

Cons

constant updates, that don't really make that much of a change. But they almost always manage to be not compatible with plugins that I had installed. If you get let's say 4.3.x, then your plugins from 4.2.x would crash. pretty often.

### "Good but not good enough"

December 24, 2021

4.0

Pros

Invision Community is a well-known community software and that means there is a very good amount of support and resources available for your site. The software is well developed and it is extremely easy to manage your site through the admin control panel.

Cons

It is an extremely pricey software compared to similar premium options. A lot of "basic" features are missing and require an additional modification/plugin which is also quite pricey.
