Preparis, as an emergency notification system, works and its inexpensive compared with many other similar platforms. That said, alert creation is unnecessarily cumbersome and not intuitive. Also, not a great platform if you need to monitor alert responses in real-time during an incident. It's very cumbersome for this as well.

Pros

We use Preparis as an emergency notification system across our employees and employees of two affiliated companies. It is fairly inexpensive and, at its core level, it's not too hard to use.

Cons

First, Preparis' workflow process for creating an emergency alert is very awkward. To create an alert, you must first select how you want recipients to respond - i.e., preset binary (OK/Not), custom responses, or no response - before you can even get to crafting your actual alert message. Also, if you choose "custom response," you will also need to create all your custom responses before you create your core message. This is very non-intuitive as your typical person creating an alert will expect to write the alert message first and then craft what responses are expected based upon the final version of the alert message. People generally don't create responses first and then create the question after. This awkward flow results in our staff having to open a Word or Notepad document first, crafting their alert message and responses in that, and then finally opening Preparis to copy/past the alert info following Preparis' set workflow. It's very frustrating and time consuming for people. Second, there is no good in-the-moment reporting within Preparis that can be used in a war room situation while an incident is happening. In other words, if an incident occurred and an alert requiring responses has been sent, and now you're in a war room with executives and other emergency team members monitoring the situation, there is no great way to monitor in real-time who has/hasn't responded to the incident within Preparis. While this information IS available in Preparis, it's not displayed in a format that's conducive for quick information gleaning in an active war room. Instead, Preparis' incident logs seem to be more geared for post-incident review then in-the-moment monitoring.

We use it for training Crisis Teams on various emergency scenarios, researching information on preparing prior to predictable emergencies and emergency messaging. While the depth of the information is great, they continue to add as new threats emerge or new tactics are established.

Pros

It is easy to use and to find answers. It has a large depth of information for training, preparing and recovering from a multitude of emergency situations. The Emergency Messaging capabilities are streamlined, customizable and effective in communicating a consistent, unified message with the ability to request a response and monitor receipt of messages down to the individual.

Cons

I cannot think of any cons at this point.
