January 5, 2025 5.0 The overall experience I had with Duplicator Pro was great. I used it once to transfer a huge Wordpress project to another server. The process was really smooth without errors. Pros I really like the scheduled backups to Google Drive and other cloud storage providers. Cons I wish the price of the Pro version was lower. One was complicated, time consuming and failed more often than not. The next (we're currently back using) is fine, but comes with insanely annoying nag screens to backup and so we tried to migrate to Duplicator. It's been an event. The interface is lovely. The options are clear, it would be perfect for clients, BUT is just seemed to always fail as we try to migrate. Maybe it's just me! Pros Duplicator has the nicest interface of any of the backup plugins around. Cons I can not get it to work. We've tried it in a few servers and no matter what I do, something always goes wrong (but maybe it's just me). Not Listing Hospital & Health Care Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "SnapCreek made a good product, Duplicator.com ruined it" February 9, 2024 3.0 It was great when it was a SnapCreek product, it was recently acquired by someone else and now goes by Duplicator.com. I purchased an unlimited site license with the understanding that it would not receive ongoing bug fixes and security updates if I do not purchase an ongoing subscription. Worked fine as a static plugin for over 2 years. Now it crashes any site you try to use it on. Reached out to support and they were not helpful at all, saying sorry but you should just pay us into perpetuity instead. Save your money. Use someone else. Pros It used to be relatively simple to use duplicator pro to quickly migrate WP sites from one server to another with just the plugin. Now installing an existing plugin crashes the site, and the only fix is to pay for the new post-aquisition non SnapCreek version. Cons Expensive, support was not helpful. I always like to have a backup of the original website before starting doing my job and Duplicator helps me: 1. Copying the exact environment on my local setup 2. Keeping the original files safe 3. Cutting the time for the points above Pros It is easy to use and it deals with most of the situations. It helped me cut my time for migrating a website to a minimum and it also helped me keeping backups of the important websites I manage. There are other plugins that I used in the past as Duplicator, but none of them successfully achieved the user experience Duplicator is achieving, nor the technology Duplicator is offering in it's PRO version. Cons Sometimes, especially on big database and low resources servers, you need to get creative and fiddle long enough with the settings to make sure you take the website as it is. But still, Duplicator has lots of settings and in the end I always managed to get the data I needed. Alternatives considered [UPDRAFT](https://www.capterra.com/p/141754/UPDRAFT/) Reason for choosing Duplicator Pro BackupBuddy - I had issues with it since from the beginnings, not being able to copy the sites I was about to modify. VaultPress - not the same system. It's harder to use and takes more time. Updraft - is the second best choice for me. Usually, if duplicator can't handle something, Updraft can be used to complete the job. For example, you can take all the websites files except the uploads with Duplicator and then use Updraft to take the uploads folder. Or when database is much bigger and server is low on resources, Updraft might handle this for you, while Duplicator can help with the rest of things. It is not my first choice because of the way it is packing everything, making the work a bit harder than Duplicator. So far, only Duplicator managed for me to get the job done in under 5 minutes for small websites (from starting the cloning to finishing the install on local environment). I am very happy that I chose them and very happy to be on the third year of paid PRO plan. It has saved me hours migrating sites from the staging site to the live sites. Definitely worth it for me. Pros Makes migrating sites a breeze. I really like the overall ease of use of the software. I do weekly backups for my client's sites and have had no issues backing up or restoring the sites. The multisite features are probably the most useful for me. I have several multisites ranging in size. I have migrated several of them to different domains and have never had an issue. I have tried other software and have always run into problems when using the software on a multisite. Cons If there was some more features in the backup aspect of things. Like incremental backups would be nice. Also, a little confusing getting the settings proper on large sites. I ran into some issues trying to migrate some of my larger multisites. Pros The simplicity and speed in backing up client sites and copying sites to different hosting providers. Cons There are cases where it has taken a couple of tries to successfully copy a site to another provider, however, in most of the cases, it was due to server timeouts and not the plugin. Pros I like being able to quickly create a backup and upload it to Google Drive, where I have lots of free space. On good hosts (not GoDaddy, in other words) and small-to-medium sized sites, the backup process takes just a few minutes. If I have to move a client's site to another hosting service I rarely use plugins like Duplicator Pro. Most hosts now offer free transfers and I have better things to do with my time. Some hosts provide quick and easy transfers that require a little bit fo input by me, and that's fine. Cloudways, for instance, uses VaultPress, which I have to install and enter a few settings and some information, press a button and everything is very quickly taken care of. My favorite use of Duplicator Pro, rather than as my go-to manual backup solution (which is UpDraftPlus) is to create core templates for quickly getting a new site ready to develop. I've created a couple templates in Duplicator Pro and I have packages ready to install, complete with WordPress/WooCommerce installations and all the basic plugins I need. I customize them according to which page builder I'm using with a new client as well as what custom functionality they require. This is MUCH easier than building a basic site from scratch every time, installing plugins and settings. Ugh. Never again. Duplicator Pro makes this easy. I also like how I can choose the file format for packages. I needed to use this feature when package creation kept failing on a slow, shared host. (GoDaddy, again. Cons For my needs as described above, Duplicator Pro is perfect at the Personal license level. Power-users will miss a few features from other premium plugins. UpDraft, for instance, allows for incremental backups, copying and storing only the files that have changed, making for much quicker and more efficient backups as well as saving space. It happens to me that I need to travel from one city to another and have to switch working from my PC to my laptop. When this happens, I simply restore a backup stored in cloud on my laptop and I'm good to go. When I finish working, I run another backup that I can install later on on my PC. Of course, if the changes are only codding related, Github saves the day and I no longer have to install the new backup on my PC. In time save it would easily have paid for itself ten times over. Pros Duplicator Pro is unlike other migration plugins in that it creates an installer to run on the server. You don't need an existing Wordpress installation to start. Create a database, navigate to the installer script, add a few details and that's it - your site is now online at its new domain. Cons I never had any issues. Occasionally the Pro version had difficuulty syncing up to CPanel but this probably had more to do with the firewall/sever setup. Review Source AM Antonio M. It worked like a charm. I later used it to make copies of a single website to create duplicates for websites that would have the same design just different content. Before Duplicator, moving a website from one domain to another actually required database editing and editing WordPress config files, which was a bother. Firstly a lot of the times I'm working with a new client, it aids me to start website development as soon as possible before they even have domain names of hosting setup. With Duplicator Pro, I can clone the website once they have their ducks in a row and I can do it in minutes. Secondly, for a lot of my clients, having off-site backups is a must. With Duplicator Pro, I can set and forget with ease. Allowing me to offer my clients peace of mind, and allowing me to offer yet another service for my clients. I've tried other software that does the same thing due to some of my clientele preferences, and I always get them to change to Duplicator as their software of choice. Pros Duplicator Pro is extremely easy to set up and works every time through its multitude of options. I've tried quite a few backup/cloning solutions over the years, and none of them matches the ease of use of Duplicator Pro. The scheduling of backups, working in conjunction with my Google Drive allows me to set and forget with for a stress-free life! This is one of my better purchases over the years. Pros There is so much to love about Duplicator Pro that I'm not even sure where to start. It's very easy to use, and also dependable. I have run into a couple of problems over the last year, but support was very fast and helpful. In one case they even pushed out an update to address the problem in less time than it takes most companies to simply respond to the initial support request. Highly recommend this product, and the company. This is how businesses should be run. Cons Hard to think of anything I don't like about this software. One suggestion, I suppose, would be to have an onboarding feature where a person could view recommendations and apply settings upon install. Using Duplicator Pro for migrating a basic website template with all the functions in built means i don't have to reinvent the wheel every time I build a new website, which saves lots of time and i can hit the road running when developing content and design. Pros Duplicator Pro makes website migration and cloning super easy, offers secure backup & restoration facilities, and supports website staging and testing which are both amazing to work on a different of ( in a situation where you're actually revamping or simply want to test certain features) without having the actual site being affected.It offers adequate technical support service with a ready-to-help team and ensures zero downtime during migration. Cons This plugin is not compatible with most themes and WP plugins that I've used and the backup files are large in size.
