Meanwhile Matillion keeps raising their price so it's no longer competitive. Pros It's cloud-based and fairly flexible. It's good that it connects with all the common data warehouses. Cons The cost keeps ratcheting up, outpacing inflation. The environment keeps needing to be updated, and it's no longer competitive with other options. Switched from [Alteryx Designer](https://www.capterra.com/p/145696/Alteryx-Designer/) We still use Alteryx for detailed ETL tasks, but Matillion is way faster for bulk loading operations into Snowflake. If Matillion could build out more data transformation tools then we may consider switching entirely. This means fivetran is not cost effective for bulk loading tasks. Pros There is a vast number of options and data connectors on offer. Cons When communicating with the support and billing teams, they are never around to answer. Phone support is useless as no one answers, and it takes a few days to get an answer via email. Took for ever to switch billing from credit card to invoicing. It is good to see the transformations visually. Cons If you can write SQL and schedule them using DBT, you should do that. Trying to set up the same transformation that you write in SQL in 15 minutes will take you 60 mins with Matillion because you have to think differently when using a click-click software like this. It can be used to build extremely complex workflows to handle data. The automation done on the platform rarely broke and was really stable even during peak data transfer intervals. Cons The changes made to the workflows on the platform are saved automatically which can be tricky if you make a change by mistake. So whenever you click a wrong button or value, it will be saved unless you undo the changes made and when working with huge complex workflows it can be really time-consuming to find the source of the issue. Pros Matillion is a cloud based ELT tool and it is very easy to use . The data transfer rates are incredibly good since the product locates in cloud infrastructure and the infrastructure can be scaled up when required. Cons The connectors to other data sources are limited when compare to what other rival product are offering . The job monitoring functionality is limited , the scheduling and job log features could have been improved. The GitHub integration could have been straight forward. Good customer service, quality product. Pros Makes for very fast development with lots of built in connectors. Visual layout of complex data pipelines is a big plus. Cons Out of memory errors. We use this for a lot of production applications. After 1 year of trying to fix OOM errors and doubling our instance size, we still get them monthly. I love matillion but I wish it were more reliable. The billing structure contributes to the problem as well. We can't run matillion on a big instance without significantly increasing our licensing fees. I wish they were independant.
