Easy to use and to integrate in to any WordPress website.

Pros

It is easy to setup and use. Easy Digital Download solved our need for customers to be able to download our software after purchasing. Customer sales information available with a few clicks. We can offer discount codes, track downloads and more... Great piece of software..

Cons

All of the additional extensions you must buy even for some simple functions . Some seems a bit pricey.

### "Weigh the cost"

Overall its a very niche and limited software addition. If you have an online website i wouldnt recommend. The recurring prices are unnecessary. One time payment is fine. After that seems greedy. The software also allows for your system to be hacked which happened to me a few times. Come to find out it was in the plugins i was using. I liked it in the beginning. Became too costly, too limited and wasnt versatile enough for the new themes.

Pros

If you are using easy digital downloads then the easy setup is the best part. Its a clean program.

Cons

Price, limited to Edd, recurring price, not a reasonable bundle price.

### "A very versatile and highly customizable e-commerce solution for Wordpress"

I was able to create a highly complex event registration system as well as another highly complex teaching-resource sharing marketplace, both of them for a science education non-profit here in Quebec (aestq.org). These 2 sites reach thousands of science education professionals each year and help building a strong online community in a much needed field. The 2 sites are simple enough to manage so that their staff can be 100% autonomous doing it. So I can focus on building new options, functionalities and custom dashboards to automate as much as possible all of their clerical work.

Pros

A. The wide variety of options available combined with the possibility of keeping the overall solution very simple, by using only a handful of them (bare minimum of required ones). B. Most plugins are very well built (coded), using the native Wordpress framework options whenever available instead of relying primarily on custom built options. Making it much easier to hack! So I can build whatever the hell I want with it!

Cons

The fact that the API isn't that well documented so I often have to dig quite deep in the source code to retrieve somewhat basic functions i need to adapt to the very VERY (very-very) specific needs of my partners.

I can customize the solution much more using Wordpress than anything else.

I’ve relied on EDD for 6+ years and love it. It makes my store and software licensing possible. It’s that software licensing I really rely on.

Pros

EDD’a purchasing and licensing integration makes my online store and platform possible.

Cons

There are a few reporting, sorting and bulk selection options missing. A few too many obvious features need custom integration but the backend is simple enough a dev can bend it to their will.

Pros

Easy to use and customize. Full-featured multiple-vendor marketplace. Intuitive for admin and end users.

Cons

Lots of options means lots of settings and adjustments throughout the program that can be difficult to find and therefore easy to miss.

Before I used Gumroad and Selz but their system lacked of feature regarding licensing. Providing a license key and being hable to edit and or revoke it was allowed thanks to EDD

Pros

The core itself is easy to use , and lot of interesting dlc are ready for use. I moved to EDD especially for their Licensing System. Perfect for software development

Cons

Love the modularity. Especially licensing ! Would like a TwoFactorAuthentification protection for administration

Because of the modularity. And ease of integration to a simple Wordpress website. I could start with most important features and than add stuff time passing. The invoicing is really good too.

When our 10+ year old digital e-commerce store needed an update to the modern era, EDD made the e-commerce part of the transition as easy as possible. It was great to be able to develop on WordPress knowing the checkout and file delivery system would be taken care of reliably, and that there would be well-developed extensions available for adding important features easily.

Ability to develop custom features and layouts on top of the base e-commerce software

Cons

Cart Recovery extension didn't work well at the time it was available.

Without EDD I am not sure we could have added the additional revenue stream of ebook sales so easily.

Pros

We use this plugin to sell and deliver ebooks to our blog readers. EDD is simple to set up and works well.

Cons

At times we have found bugs with discount codes and currently reporting. But the issues were minor and our sales volume is such that we can easily double check on screen reports by reviewing logs which are included in the system.

Overall my experience has been great and my shop has been thriving.

Pros

Speed and simplicity . My website is much fast with EDD than it was with woocommerce, which I used for about 2 years before switching. It's also so simple, customers dont need to full out a ton of info for a download. Because of the speed and simplicity my sales doubled the month I switched to EDD.

Cons

It's a bit tricky to make customizations to your shop page if you're using a theme that's not built with an EDD stylesheet included and you don't have any coding knowledge. I couldn't find a plugin to do what I wanted with the shop appearance so I had to create a file in my theme and code it myself.

I like the simplicity of using the software, no complications in product setup and configuring payment gateways. The extra add-ons makes us easy for providing our customers, a professional and most appealing experience. Overall, EDD reduces our overall stress over running a complex e-Commerce system.

Cons

1\. As digital products need product supporting. It is better to have a separate licencensing or pricing option for support with renewal facility. 2. The addition of product update notification email to customers is required in the free version apart from Software licensing add-on.

Easy Digital Downloads has been a really good experience and saved me hours of development on a few different sites already and has been nothing but great.

Pros

One of the best things about Easy Digital Downloads is the Software Licensing add-on that allows you to manage different product/API keys for your plugins and software. Save a lot of time developing a custom solution and with a few minutes of setup and configuration everything works as to be expected!

Cons

I don't think there's anything that I didn't like about the software but I did wish there were better bundling options feature wise. It was a bit hard to setup upgrades (or my own product) to different tiers and subscriptions without having to do something really custom.
