The initial set-up is very straightforward to do and made better being a free platform. Pros It's a simple text editor that's able to support HTML & CSS capabilities, perfect for anybody who wants to learn code. It also predicts which tag im trying to close before i type it in which is really useful. Cons I think the user interface has become a little outdated for it's time. i shortly made the switch over to Sublime Text as it's formatting and use of colour make writing and understanding code a little easier for me. It has been my go to editor for editing SQL and C Sharp code. I prefer to edit in Notepad++ and then copy paste into Visual Studio for my SQL code. I love the fact that it highlights keywords when I use the appropriate file extension. Cons It seems as a default, it assumes the file is a text file and then sometimes I have to go to the finder and rename the file extension. It is our go-to software for editing files that have foreign language characters. It has many great search options, macros, and other nice features. Pros It had great options for different file encoding which works great with foreign language text. It can easily switch to UTF-8 with or without BOM character which came in very handy. Owner Used the software for: 3-5 years ### "Small, fast and convenient" October 27, 2021 5.0 We normally use visual studio, but it is too heavy for small tasks. The VS code is also too big and confusing for that, as it always tries to deal with project folders. In Notepad++ we can open files individually and edit a script or fix a programming error in a larger project from another tool, check the charset of a file or even write manuals in markdown. It is a Swiss Army knife for most of the auxiliary functions in our routine. Pros It is a super notepad, very fast to open, very efficient for handling large files, great for editing scripts or parts of larger programs. I also find it amazing how easy it is with the wizard to define your own programming or markup language. This extends the app to domain languages. It also has localization for several languages. Cons I even went looking for something I don't like about it, but I couldn't find it. Perhaps the only thing missing is that it has a Linux version. Review Source Roberto H. It also helps me dissect a code during troubleshooting so I can easily find the errors in the code. I work for a big pharmaceutical companies and fixing a coee bug is a critical matter. With the help of Notepad++, my troubleshooting becomes easier and faster which makes my customer happy as well. Pros The search function with filter and the plugins to remove whitespace are the two easy-to-use feature of Notepad++. Whenever I needed to review someone's code, bringing them into Notepad++ helps me navigate easier and it helps me filter the seach more faster. Cons Since Notepad++ saves all work automatically and although CTRL+Z can revert any changes, the proper "undo" function is still necessary so that the user can easily recover a lost work.
