August 17, 2021 5.0 I love the endless possibilities of Notion - you can build so much with this tool. However, it's not easy at first and it can take some time to get used to it. I benefited greatly from watching tutorial videos on Youtube and using templates that I was able to find online. So my number one tip is: take a look at tutorials before you start using it and definitely use templates to get ideas and get going faster. Pros Notion is just a diverse platform and it can have so many different uses. All its tools and features allows you to build very personalized projects. One of the most amazing uses I have seen is being used as a complete wiki for a company. Also great for project management and collaboration tool. Cons Since it has so many features and uses, it can be very overwhelming at first. It takes time to figure it out, so I wouldn't say it's very user friendly. Some research and digging and playing around is needed before you get the hang of it. Honestly, it takes some time for one to become an avid user and just be able to freely use the software. Notion is unique in its ability to provide so much autonomy and creativity in project/task/knowledge management. Whereas other apps may be limited to specific database views, or possible layouts, Notion empowers the user to work with different kinds of data and details. It is worth noting that Notion becomes more intuitive with time. As it operates differently than many other project management or productivity software, it does take time to make it work for your needs. However, once you are able to tune into its capabilities, it really does become a game changer. Pros Notion has become instrumental in my day to day work, specifically supporting my job search and weekly agenda, research projects, and much more. What I find especially valuable is that it's clean and incredibly customizable layout has allowed me to create templates and dashboards to fit exactly what I need. It is also worth mentioning that Notion's clean aesthetic is distraction free, which is ideal for anyone that does better with less visual clutter. For project management and hitting deadlines, it does the job really well compared to other services. Pros Notion has an amazing, streamlined interface that practically invites you to start planning and writing. It is open to customisation which is great if you're working in a more creative role like me and need to be surrounded by inspiration. Cons Notion AI as a feature disappointed me. Like ChatGPT, it 'hallucinates' often and when I ask it to summarise my literature review notes/other research documents, it produces altered or fake citations that diminish the quality of my work. Pros Instead of disparate Google Docs that no one can seem to keep the links for, Notion houses everything in one area, which is exactly what we needed. Google has issues surfacing relevant search results, and Notion solves that problem. Having one source of truth for an organization is vital. Cons My old gripe was that it was terribly difficult to collaborate in Notion, and would actively still use Google suite to do that. Notion just updated their comments to be more easily seen! Make use of it for my own purposes, including keeping tabs on the development of my business. Pros The programme may be customised to your needs in many ways in Notion. In part because of their databases and many presentation options (e.g., calendar, Board, tables, and listing). It's a lot of fun to play around with and is quite easy to learn. Using this as a hub for your team seems like a great idea to me, and it could easily take the role of something like Google Docs.I thought it was pretty easy to understand and fun to use. It makes sense to me that this could replace something like Google Docs and serve as a hub for your team. It's crazy to even think about it. From now on, my life will be a lot easier. If I had known about this when I was in school, I would know everything there is to know about everything. Cons  I've noticed that while using Notion on my phone, it may be a little sluggish at times. Even turning the pages was a laborious process for me. I had the impression that my text was not being shown in real time while using it. On Mobile, I also had issues where I was unable to use the highlight function owing to a fault on their end. The effect opposite to increased productivity is being created. Since folders multiply rapidly, I'd spend more time trying to figure out where I should save a given note than I would composing it. I believe it would be best if instead of using folders, we relied more on simplified search and internal connections.The typefaces and style in Notion are restricted. The most vexing aspect of idea is the inability to establish recurring tasks; it is a headache, and you must purchase addons to do this. It's not every day that you use something that can be as simple as Google Docs but as complicated as Wordpress all in one function. They've done an amazing job of making it perfect from day 1, but giving you so much that you can learn and do to make it even better. My favourite feature is the toggle function and it was the sole reason that I used notion, at first. Now I use way more features as I learned about them over time. Cons It does take some time to learn how to use notion to it's full effect. I still don't even know very much about it, considering how much it could do. March 3, 2020 4.0 I work at a University and Notion is free with an @edu account, so I feel very lucky to get to use this for free. First off, it's super helpful that they provide templates for common things you might want to do organized by categories: Design, Education, Engineering, Human Resources, Marketing, Personal, and Product Management. It also provides a selection of user-created templates. Amazing! So, as a beginner, you can play around with a template to start learning the ropes and possibilities. And the possibilities are ENDLESS. I think my first use case was to use the official Pokedex template that Notion provides. #nerd I play Pokemon Go, so I modified it to track my dex, but also keep track of the Luckies, Shinies, and trades I have lined up. I embarrassingly use this page the most. I created my own templates for Home Repairs (a CRM, Timeline, and budget) and Home Maintenance checklists for the entire year. I planned a trip that I shared with friends that included Places, Events, and Shopping Lists. And finally, have been trying to use it to replace my Google Spreadsheets for family finances and budgeting. Like I mentioned in the Cons, it's a bit tricky to get it set up exactly like I have it in spreadsheets, but I'm prone to overcomplicating things, so it's to be expected. I am at times thrown off by how slow it can become, but since the latest update that addresses this, I don't know that I've noticed the lagging anymore. I still am pretty motivated to keep using it. Pros \- Pre-made templates, both official and user-generated - Mostly intuitive (more complex relational database stuff requires more planning/experimentation) - Kind of like a combination of Evernote, Google Docs/Spreadsheets, Trello, Journal, and website all integrated together. Plus all sorts of other things I haven't even tried yet. - Customizable features like emoji and page banners - Can import from Evernote, Asana, Trello, GDocs, Word, Dropbox, and other formats. - Create teams to share pages with - Can now create flowcharts, wireframes, and mind maps! Cons \- Has been known to lag and slow down your device quite a bit. (However, a 2/2020 update may have fixed this.) - Spreadsheets are a little tricker than what I'm used to when using Google Spreadsheets. Our team has experimented with a ton of organizational software, but Notion has shown to be the most effective. The thing I appreciate most about Notion is that you may use it as you choose; it doesn't compel you to follow a certain technique; it merely provides you with the means to do so. Cons People should do their own research to determine which characteristics are best and whether Notion satisfies those requirements. Notion can be used as a substitute for Trello or Asana, but it won't meet all of your demands for these programs.
