### "Don’t look further, use this"

June 25, 2025

Love it. Favorite editor ever. It is the most versatile and lightweight editor ever with plugins for pretty much everything along with open source capabilities, and it’s free!

Pros

Everything! The product is super lightweight, highly customizable, super extendable and the fact that it is open source means you can add support for everything you want

Cons

It can experience a few crashes from time to time, and does not handle super large files that well sometimes

### "Best Lightweight IDE with Powerful Features"

February 17, 2025

5.0

I use it not only for web development but also for building APIs and programming, thanks to its flexibility and integrations. It’s a powerful tool that keeps evolving, making development easier and more efficient.

Pros

VS Code is one of the best lightweight IDEs out there. It runs smoothly on most systems and offers a huge collection of extensions. It is used by many types of developers —whether it's web, AI, or App. It also gets regular updates and has strong community and support.

Cons

The extension marketplace is great, but installing too many extensions can slow down performance of vsCode. It’s better to be mindful of what you install to keep things running smoothly.

I made this switch 5 years ago and I am happy that I made this switch. VSCode offers more coding environment for developers while Notepad is for general purpose tasks related to text.

I really enjoy using VS Code for coding. The start was not as straightforward as other coding environment, but over time, I realized how powerful it is and it is truly a coding environment designed for developers.

### "VS Code Makes Plaintext Pleasant"

January 10, 2025

5.0

Visual Studio Code is our preferred text editor due to the support it has for virtually all plaintext documents and language tools.

Pros

Cons

It takes a bit of customization for less supported languages to run, but works very well after.

### "A superstar editor which sometimes shows that's still too young."

January 3, 2025

5.0

The overall experience with Visual Studio Code is very positive but most of the time I find my self missing the maturity of other heavier IDEs.

Pros

It's lightweight with basic features but if you want to extend it to fit your needs there are tons of plugins you can use. The community around Visual Studio Code has become huge. Almost every developer out there uses it.

Cons

Sometimes I feel that the developer experience is not optimal when using Visual Studio Code. Especially when I compare it with some other legendary IDEs. I wish it had more features pre-installed, like for example code formatting, database GUI, ftp connections etc.

My overall experience is great. I love this platform. From the extensions that are available to the setup option's it is the best out there for coding of any level.

Pros

I like that it has a ton of extensions that you can use with this product to make coding that much easier.

Cons

I have no cons with visual studio code. It by far is the best coding platform I have used.

### "Clean interface and easy to use!"

March 27, 2025

5.0

I develop software in this IDE and it integrates well with Git. The interface is clean and the app is easy to use.

Pros

This app has a very clean interface and is intuitive to use. The settings are vast with lots of flexibility to configure the IDE to meet the requirements of your workflow. Very easy to use and a beautiful interface.

Cons

Some settings can be hard to find, but the integrated search helps. Would be nice if more things were built-in such as a spell checker- though I believe this functionality can be added with extensions.

### "VS Code continues to be our tool of choice for lightweight, scalable development."

June 13, 2025

4.0

VS Code enabled us to normalize our dev environment while avoiding the weight of IDEs. Faster onboarding, less environment issues, and more agile teams for services at microservice scale.

Pros

It’s fast, pliable and highly customizable. Docker, Python, and React are a must for our cross-functional teams. Git integration and IntelliSense do wonders to speed up workflow for junior and senior deves, alike.

Cons

For the enterprise-level back-end developer, it may be missing deep debugging tools out of the box .

### "Best free coding platform. Wouldn't use anything else. "

April 28, 2025

Visual Studio Code is a great free coding tool that has an extensive add-ons library for just about any use case. I found it easy to use from the start and wouldn't be able to do my job without it.

Pros

Visual Studio Code is a great free tool for coding. I use it everyday in my work and find all the extensions very useful.

Cons

Some of the extensions stop being supported and or become outdated and you need to manually remove them else they may cause issues in your code.

### "Number One"

June 5, 2025

5.0

Overall extremely well. I will choose Visual Studio Code over any other IDE due to its flexibility and support.

Pros

No matter what language I need to write a script in, Visual Studio Code will support it and automatically will help me with syntax.

Cons

The debugger I believe is the weakest part of Visual Studio Code. Not to say that it is bad, it does it job well, but I have preferred other debuggers.

### "Powerful suite of development tools for the modern developer"

July 9, 2025

5.0

Overall, VSCode provides me with the toolset I need to ensure I can develop code at speed and to the best of my ability.

Pros

The extensibility of VSCode really helps with my workflow. Using tools like GitHub and also being able to access and manage databases from within VSCode is super useful.

Cons

If anything, the only con I would say is the layout can be overwhelming, it would be good to have a simple view.

### "Versatile, Powerful, and Customizable"

September 25, 2024

5.0

My overall experience with Visual Studio Code has been highly positive. It's a lightweight yet feature-rich code editor that supports multiple programming languages and provides an excellent development environment for both small projects and large-scale applications. The ease of installing and managing extensions allows you to tailor it to your specific needs, and the integrated Git support makes version control seamless. Its user interface is intuitive, and productivity-enhancing features like IntelliSense, debugging, and code refactoring tools make coding more efficient. However, with many extensions running simultaneously, it can become resource-intensive. Still, its versatility and powerful features far outweigh this minor drawback, making it a go-to editor for most development needs.

Pros

I like most about Visual Studio Code is its flexibility and customization options. It's lightweight yet powerful, supporting a wide range of programming languages through extensions. Features like IntelliSense, Git integration, and an extensive plugin ecosystem make it great for both beginners and professionals, offering smooth workflows across different types of projects. The interface is clean, and the real-time collaboration tools are useful for team projects.

Cons

I like least about Visual Studio Code is that it can sometimes become resource-intensive, especially when using multiple extensions. This can cause the editor to lag or slow down on less powerful machines. Additionally, its built-in terminal, while useful, isn't as robust as standalone terminal applications, and managing extensions can sometimes be overwhelming due to the sheer volume available. Despite these, it's still a highly functional and versatile tool.

Overall I will continue to use this product because it has proven to be a value to my ability to write code for simple web pages.

Pros

Cons

### "Programmier Allrounder durch massig Erweiterungen"

January 23, 2025

5.0

Pros

### "Visual Studio Code, the best and lightest code editor"

December 10, 2024

4.0

I've been using VS Code for over 4 years to edit code, mainly for personal and business projects.

Pros

Visual Studio Code is a versatile, and highly customizable code editor that supports a wide range of programming languages. Its extensive marketplace offers thousands of extensions, enabling developers to tailor the editor to specific workflows, such as linting, debugging, or version control integration.

Cons

Its performance can degrade with too many extensions or large projects. Additionally, beginners might find the vast customization options overwhelming, and some advanced features may require configuration or external tools to function optimally.
