### "Visual Studio Code - Powerful code editor"

August 9, 2019

4.0

Visual Studio Code is an awesome source code editor and I urge you to give it a swing, you will not regret it.

Pros

Although Visual Studio Code is classified as a lightweight source code editor, it is by no means lightweight when it comes to its power. You can consider it to be a balance between a text editor and an IDE because it posses features like syntax highlighting and autocomplete from the text editor side but also has features like debugging from the IDE side. In addition, it has Git commands built-in which allows you to run all your favorite commands without leaving the code editor. If you want more features you can do so by installing extensions to add themes, add new languages etc which will all run in completely different processes which will ensure that your editor remains at top speed and will not experience any lag due to these additions. Visual Studio Code natively supports TypeScript, JavaScript and Node.js; however, it has a large ecosystem of extensions for many more languages, making it the code editor of your choice. Let us not forget that on top of all the power, features and customization, VSCode remains free and you can run it on your Windows, macOS and Linus machines with no limitations.

Cons

I would like for it to natively support editing and browsing remote files, rather than using and extension.

### "Lightweight editor for everyone"

January 23, 2022

4.0

VSCode is fast editor with good plugin support. It is perfect starter for coding environment.

Pros

I have been using this software for years. Multilanguage support with plugins is very nice. Vscode allows us to do everything with one software. Also, it's very lightweight application and this is advantage for all systems.

Cons

At the end of the day, it's not an IDE. I cannot feel the comfort of development in this program. Also, occasional plugin crashes and unexpected shutdowns are take away the pleasure of using this software.

### "The best IDE for every kind of developer"

June 18, 2021

5.0

I've been using Visual Studio Code for a long time and I'm always learning something new, so everytime I switch languages or technologies I search for the best add-ons and they are always there, just like MAGIC! Just kidding, the community wich develops those add-ons is awesome and hard worker.

Pros

What makes Visual Studio Code so good is all the add-ons that you just download and use, without complications. The Git and GitHub integrations are awesome and every language you wish has add-ons to add features and make your coding experience better.

Cons

If you have a low end pc, it can get a little harder to run. Visual Studio Code consumes a considerable amout of yours computers resources.

### "Best all-rounder editor!"

September 27, 2019

4.0

Been switching multiple text editor from Sublime Text to Atom, I can't find any text editor that suit my needs until switching to VSCode. Most of text editor I previously use is either slow or don't have great choices of extension.

Pros

VS Code is my go-to editor when I perform day to day programming tasks. It supports a lot of extension when compare to Brackets or Atom. It is pretty lightweight (in my opinion) and fast which is a huge plus from me. VS Code is also highly customizable, you can style almost everything on it from overall theme to text style. Last but not least, like it bigger brother, it support many languages.

Cons

There are not much thing to complain about it, but if I really had to. VSCode tends to perform slower when you have a lot of extensions.

### "Visual Studio Code - Productivada y Eficiencia al Programar"

April 3, 2020

5.0

### "Light and powerful Code Editor"

March 8, 2021

5.0

Pros

It is a light application that doesn't slow down my laptop like other heavy IDE. I can install different plugins to speed up my coding. It is very comfortable and easy to navigate or add custom configurations that I am used to. Also, we get tons of themes and color schemes as per my choice I change it on day or night.

Cons

It would be very helpful for me if there a feature that lets me auto change the themes and color as per time. For instance, I like a light theme in the day and dark themes at night, so if only I could make it automatic I can save most of the time that I separate for changing it twice every day.

### "Pros and cons of using VSC as an IDE"

February 29, 2024

4.0

Compared to other IDEs, VSC is a very fair choice in terms of managing the code and tracking branches when integrated with Git.

Pros

it is very easy to collaborate on the code review by integrating with Git. Troubleshooting bugs is very straightforward but VSC doesn't always give the best solutions. The suggestions to integrate 3rd party apps is very useful and mostly relevant.

Cons

It is a heavy program to run alongside other applications and crashes sometimes. The search functionality can get better.

### "Best code editor available on the internet"

September 26, 2019

5.0

I use Visual Studio Code for programming, mostly JavaScript editing. Visual Studio Code also helps when I have to quickly check a Java like code without opening a complex Java IDE.

Pros

Visual Studio Code is one of the simple but most powerful code editor I have ever used. It support almost all the types of programming languages. There are thousands of extensions to make the editor friendly and IDE feel for any language or framework. Built in terminal with multiple instances also improve efficiency and productivity of the user.

Cons

There is nothing to dislike about Visual Studio Code as code editor or even IDE since it provide everything that needs to code.

### "Most convenient code editor that I've used"

May 28, 2022

5.0

I'm using VSCode daily at work for C++ and Python programming. It allows me to work efficiently and provides all the functionalities that I need (git integration, built-in terminal, debugger, convenient file explorer). I'm using additional plugins for Jira (to automate creation of git branches), GIT (graph and blame) and SSH Remote (it allows to work on remote PC as it would be local one, very convenient). I'm using Linux daily and I'm usually not a big fan of Microsoft products, but I must admit that this one is really good.

Pros

It's relatively lightweight and therefore works fast. Great possibilities for customization. Great selection of additional plugins available (e.g. git graphs, Jira integration, ssh integration). Integrated terminal, debugger.

Cons

Telemetry is enabled in packages available from official repositories (this can be omitted by building from source or using VSCodium instead). Sometimes additional packages are badly written and uses too many resources (not exactly VScode fault)

### "The goto IDE for most dev projects"

September 7, 2021

5.0

Pros

It supports all the languages I want to use. No need to install separate ide for python, another one for Java, third for javascript. It all can be handled by vs code. Simply another plugin to install and... you can use vs code instead.

Cons

Window and tab management was confusing for me. I do not understand why opening a file in a new window, instead of a new tab, cannot be done with drag and drop. This makes working on two monitors harder, as I frequently forget what was the shortcut to do that.

### "Awesome IDE for Web Development, Unless you're a Ruby Dev"

July 5, 2019

5.0

Unless you're a Ruby on Rails dev, I highly recommend vscode I hope someday they can fix that bug so I can use it, since I love the application and all the devs I know went from Sublime to this.

Pros

Easy to use, the UI is amazing and a decent extension store, you don't have to type commands in order to get your extensions installed, awesome community there are a lot of themes so you can customize it.

Cons

I'm a ruby on rails developer and there's an issue regarding editing .html.erb files, VScode identifies them as Ruby files, but you lost all the auto completion for HTML/Bootstrap/Awesomefont since it ditches the html part of the file, making working on the html code difficult,is possible but delays you a lot, there are workarounds but it didn't work in my case, Sublime works perfectly in the same scenario.

### "Great cross-platform IDE"

December 2, 2021

5.0

It's a staple for my job and my hobbies. How did I I ever live without it?

Pros

This software morphs into whatever I need it for. I can develop backend code, switch to web code, then to embedded code, and it handles every language I use like a champ. It's fast, responsive, and works in multiple environments (I use it in Windows and Linux, but I have coworkers that use it on a Mac). Frequent updates usually add even greater usability.

Cons

While I love the updates, some may not like that they happen so frequently.

### "Best code editor out there"

July 26, 2019

5.0

I've worked with a lot of different editors (or IDE's) and the best I've tried is VS Code, and it has a really low learning curve.

Pros

It has a lot of support for different technologies with a really good performance, in my case I work with angular, django, and node and all works perfect with its owns tools. It is really customizable and that's great.

Cons

Until now I haven't found a big problem with it, sometimes depending on the things that you are doing the performance can be a trouble, but in general it works really well.

We love the leightweight nature of VS Code, we can edit almost anything and the amount of Addons make it the best editor we have used.

Cons

### "Amazing open source code editor"

August 22, 2019

5.0

I have been using Visual Studio Code for website development, as it made it easier to work with JavaScript, HMTL, CSS and PHP. I also used it to do small modification to Visual Studio projects, which adds C# and ASP.NET to the list.

Pros

The greatest aspect of Visual Studio Code is the huge amount of variety of languages supported (some are via extensions), allowing access to features such as spell checking and IntelliSense without needed to install several pieces of software. It is also surprisingly lightweight in CPU and RAM usage despite of the options and features included, and while being free.

Cons

While I love Visual Studio Code, it is not the best option when you have to do a quick or small edits. Maybe a lighter or simpler mode would be nice, as it is the main reason I still use Notepad++ as well.

### "The best IDE I've ever used"

July 27, 2019

5.0

It has been great so far, I can't see myself living without it anymore. It's been helping me with my web development using languages including but not limited to: Python, NodeJS, JavaScript as well as HTML and CSS.

Pros

I certainly cannot list them all here, but I'll try and list the ones I can think of: - Simple yet so powerful - easy to use - Amazing community - Great variety of every plugin you may ever need - Awesome debugging features - Cool remote development feature and much much more

Cons

I definitely like everything about it a lot

Switched from

Sublime Text is cool and all but it never felt really user-friendly although I appreciate how advanced it can be. When I tried VS Code I immediately was able to use it with much more features....etc.

### "A must have for any serious developer"

June 15, 2023

Pros

I really like the extensions within Visual Studio Code as they allow me to easily implement new features, languages and helps to make my development work easier.

Cons

There is nothing that I would consider a con when it comes to Visual Studio Code, it is free, it is very functional and all round a great development IDE.

### "Very close to beat JetBrains IDEs"

May 29, 2019

5.0

I used JetBrains IDEs for many years. They have always been the best for power users. That said, Visual Studio Code is very close to claim the IDE superiority from JetBrains.

Pros

It's fast, and supports most features found in JetBrains IDEs. That's quite good for a fully open source IDE.

Cons

Git integration is very bad. Browsing the git history of the current file, comparing its current version with the version on a server, browsing the tree. That kind of features. Git integration in VS Code is very simplistic. It needs to be brought to JetBrains IDE level. Also, support for Ruby is a third party integration. Microsoft should provide official support, including IntelliSense, and being able to jump to the source code of gems used in the project (that are stored outside of the project tree).

I'm happy to find a familial easy to use IDE that supports all programming languages i use. I used it for C#, Java, Powershell and alot more.

Pros

very easy to use lightweight adaptable and has alot of plugins that will cover all your needs to edit text, write code and develop in any programming language and even Arduino. with code highlight and autocompletion for many languages Visual Studio code supports all major Desktop operating systems including Windows, Linux and MACOS.

Cons

sometimes it work a little slow or malfunction with some plugins. also

### "The best IDE I've ever programmed."

July 16, 2022

5.0

I've programmed in different languages, applied github integration, debug and plugins. And I use it daily so I believe there are few features that I haven't used

Pros

The facility to use different languages and frameworks is fantastic and handy. The most amazing features are the plugins and the integration with debug / GitHub, hardly I see other IDE that is easy and very very good

Cons

Just the lack of functionality to run applications directly in the IDE instead of other software, otherwise, I don't see any negative points.

Reason for choosing Visual Studio Code

More features, UI/UX design is good for me and the ability to handle multiple languages

### "Complete package for a Web Developer."

January 19, 2022

5.0

I am very grateful to one of my friends who suggested me to use Visual Studio Code for my development. Previously I used a simple IDE that had many lackings, less extension support and less features. When I found Visual Studio Code, It was a great surprise for me as I got all the awesome features in one place. Especially the built in terminal is a good thing to have in the workspace. More customization, more extension support made it uncomparable. This software greatly supports me from the coding process to debugging process and saves a lot of time. I am totally satisfied with what I get from this software. Thank you.

Pros

The main feature I like the most is the Extension support. As a web developer, I have to work with many technologies at the same place. The vast collection extensions make my coding process easy and time saving.

Cons

There are no major problem that I have faced with this software. In rare case, the app doesn't response for a minute or less. If this thing can be more stablized, it will be totally an awesome package.
