### "I was blown away"

December 17, 2023

5.0

I started out with low expectations and after the Visual Studio 2023 on Mac was cancelled, I moved over all devlopment of our 55Gb code base to Visual Studio Code. Never going back.

Pros

I thought that Visual Studio Code was "just" an editor. Hey, I've been around from the early days vi, notepad, .. This is a different ball game. Visual Studio Code understands your code, the integration with lint, code snippets, plugins and AI makes it a dream come true. Now, I just need more nuget and Azure overview and I'm totally happy.

Cons

The simple installation, sync between all systems - well - it's a marvel. Cannot complain. Speed. Cannot complain. Quality. Cannot complain. NO CONS! Just download if you haven't yet!

Reason for choosing Visual Studio Code

I had to and wasn't too sorry. Just getting custom to short cuts and up to speed.

### "My experience with Visual Studio Code"

August 15, 2023

5.0

Overall, I have had an amazing experience with VS Code. I have been using it since the day I started coding. It's free and anyone can use it. Everyone in the industry uses it and I highly recommend all the developers to use VS Code. It would be amazing if they provided support for mobile based applications as well.

Pros

The fact that VS Code supports most of the programming languages is the best thing about it. From basic level to high level programing languages, VS Code has the support to edit, code and debug. It also has the ability to install third party extensions which make the work easier and faster. Coding in VS Code is very efficient. On top of that, VS Code is completely free which is another major plus point. It also supports GitHub co-pilot which makes our job easier than ever.

Cons

Although VS Code supports most of the languages, it does not offer much support for development in Mobile based applications. Hence why, developers use other IDEs for mobile development.

### "Help users for new project creation"

November 14, 2023

4.0

I use VScode but for a new project I jump up on VScode to use another editor more perform in this type of actions

Pros

Visual Studio Code is the most impressive and fast code editor that I know. He is simple, fast to open, easy to use and can work with many extensions.

Cons

Visual Studio Code can help us by proposing to download automatically package for a new projet. For Instance when you want to create a project, VScode can ask you if it is react or python and then he can automatically download you the package for a new project

### "Best software development integration"

June 15, 2023

5.0

Visual studio code is the best editor for developing nice apps for the web, Windows, and mobile.

Pros

Visual studio code is my to-go software development studio. It's free and available for various devices. The code editor is highly responsive and interactive. Its built-in ability to quickly scan through local storage and update information change is pretty astonishing.I like it because it's so easy to use and there is much to be confused about. The interface is clean and less saturated. Working with VS code changes the game and I enjoy every single day that I work with it.

Cons

The editor will freeze when kept for 5 minutes in the background or will pop up an annoying notice each time I hover for at least 3s on any CSS property.

### "Visual Studio Code: The best editor for front end development;"

April 11, 2023

5.0

My overall experience with visual studio code for front end development is 10/10. You can use any functionality you need by just adding it to the (or even write yourself any functionality you need as a plugin),and make a profile so that the editor remembers which plugins you have. This way if you change your working machine, you can still have the same development experience.

Pros

First of all, the fact that anyone can create new plugins and add new custom functionality is awesome. Secondly, because it is so lightweight there is no lag and hence no irritation. Other factors are it's Cross-platform, it has Powerful features

Cons

The only thing about the editor I do not like is that for C# or Java projects it does not perform as well as for example Visual Studio/Eclipse for example. Still, I do think it is most suitable for front-end development and it is the top choice in this field.

### "Revolutionizing Coding for CS Students: A Review of Visual Studio Code"

January 23, 2023

5.0

I would rate my overall user experience of VS Code very highly - it is a powerful and versatile text editor that can be easily adapted to a wide range of coding projects. The flexibility and customization options provided by the software make it a valuable tool for coding projects, and the built-in debugging and integrated terminal features make it a great choice for development work. The various extensions available for different programming languages and tools are also very useful. While it can be resource-intensive and managing extensions can be a bit of a challenge, these downsides are outweighed by the benefits of using the software. I would highly recommend it to other students in the field!

Pros

As a CS student, I appreciate the flexibility and customization options provided by VS Code. The ability to customize the interface and add various extensions for different programming languages and tools makes it a valuable tool for coding projects. Additionally, the built-in debugging and integrated terminal features make it a great choice for development work!

Cons

A potential downside I found as a user, is that it can be resource-intensive, particularly when running multiple extensions at once. This may cause slower performance on lower-spec computers (which was my case during the first years of uni). Another potential issue is that it can be difficult to manage and organize the large number of extensions that are available, as well as keep them updated. I could also say that the initial learning curve is a bit steep, but it can definitely be overcome with time and patience.

### "You Can't Beat it's Features or it's Price!"

March 15, 2022

5.0

I love it, can't say it enough! I actually use it as the code editor with Bootstrap Studio. I assigned it as my default editor and now every time I work on a website in Bootstrap Studio, all code pages open in Visual Studio Code. Amazing how they can work together like that, but it's a great team of applications for sure!

Pros

At first it was that it was free so I could really check it out on my own schedule (sometimes 30 days ain't enough when I don't find time to use something. After using it a while I was amazed at all the features that saved so much time designing websites. Not having to visually match start and end tags was awesome as it shows you which goes with which. Tons of different themes to find the one that fits your style or visual needs. So many features and what isn't already there, someone has made an extension for so it's really well rounded.

Cons

Sometimes I have to work at getting an extension to function or function correctly. Keeping in mind of course that in most cases Microsoft didn't create them, there is still sometimes a learning curve with getting extensions working as you want them to.

Reason for choosing Visual Studio Code

One thing I've learned about shopping online. Everyone has an opinion and asking for them on forums is a great way to get feedback on software. Especially when it's a Web Designer's Forum. It was almost unanimous that Visual Studio Code was the best option ... and not just for the Free price!

Switched from

[TextMate](https://www.capterra.com/p/234698/TextMate/)

Not enough features in TextMate, and it's very iffy on how it copies text from websites and such. Even when it's set to be a raw text editor, many times it still seems to grab the formatting and shouldn't. As a web designer, you very seldom can copy text directly from a website and add it to your website in any visual type of software without getting extra formatting brought in by the copying (Bootstrap Studio is part Visual and part Code). Using Visual Studio Code I can paste it right in there and not have to copy to a text editor and then to my builder. Saves a lot of added steps.

### "A strange tool"

October 26, 2021

4.0

This is controversial, I know, but I honestly don't understand all the frenzy around VS code, as it's a simplified Visual Studio, heavier (proportionately to what it does) and less capable. We use it several times a week to do tasks that don't fit well in Visual Studio, without an expensive and complete plugin. For example for GO and PHP. In these situations, although we consider less efficient than JetBrains, but for the price the VS Code pays off for us. If we had to do something bigger, it would definitely not be our choice - due to productivity. But for trivial tasks it solves well. It is in the middle for us: big projects we do with VS, medium projects or with non-microsoft languages we use VS code, quick tasks and scripts or external files we use notepad++.

Pros

It is lighter and simpler than Visual Studio, so it can more easily solve tasks that are too small for VS. The fact that it's free is also great. The sheer amount of plugins is also very nice.

Cons

Many fragmented plugins (you need to download parts), many low quality plugins, many paid plugins with very expensive prices. The tool is a hybrid app so it doesn't have the same overall performance per screen as the official VS for windows. Project management is confusing and fragmented.

Alternatives considered

[Xojo](https://www.capterra.com/p/179342/Xojo/)

Reason for choosing Visual Studio Code

At the time just for the cost of Xojo and the fact that not all the things VS Code does Xojo does too (actually Xojo does a lot less, but what he does, he does very well). For some purposes it turned out to be our choice later, but due to the high cost of Xojo, we ended up keeping our main business flow over VS and VS Code anyway. Really, today, micro companies need to use everything they have at hand to reduce costs or put the cost only when it will bring return on a project.

Switched from

[Eclipse IDE](https://www.capterra.com/p/205298/Eclipse-IDE/)

Eclipse is great, it's free, it has a lot of plugins, but it's too Java-based, and in a way that makes everyday use less productive for us, and it has frequent errors. When VS Code came out we opted for this lighter and less error-prone solution. Visual Studio is great in a lot of ways, but it's getting slower with each release. VS Code also has more integration options for non-microsoft stuff. So when we create desktop apps or UWP we use Visual Studio, when we need server languages like GO or PHP we switch to VS Code.

### "Full-featured, user friendly IDE"

August 23, 2019

5.0

Visual Studio Code does it's job as an integrated development environment very well. I use it every single day and it makes the task of editing code as painless as it can be. It's highly configurable and there are thousands of extensions available for getting even more from it.

Pros

The first great thing you'll notice about Visual Studio Code (or vscode) is how easy it is to install and configure. Users of Windows, Mac OS and most Linux distributions will find easy-to-use installers on the website, while other distributions often have their own packaged versions available in distribution-specific package managers. After installing vscode, if you open a file type that has extensions available, vscode recommends an extension to install and manages the install process for you. I work with Go; vscode has very good support for working with .go files (with the help of a few extensions). Installing and using linters, formatters and debugging tools are all taken care of. Extensions are another big positive - there must be thousands available, covering things like support for different programming languages, spellchecking, changing the theme of the entire app, integrations with other development tools, and plenty more that I haven't thought of. Of course, the main job of an integrated development environment (IDE) like vscode is to make coding easier, and vscode does good job of this. As well as support for the standard text editing features that you'd expect from any tool, vscode provides extra features to help programmers, such as jumping to definitions of a function, automated refactoring, snippets, editing with multiple cursors, and more. Oh, and vscode is free, for private or commercial use.

Cons

I really don't have much negative to say about this software. It does its job fantastically, and I use it every day. I would say that support may not be on the same level as you would expect from an enterprise level support contract, since it's free software, but I have also never needed support. The team developing vscode are also constantly introducing new features and improving old ones.

Reason for choosing Visual Studio Code

I chose vscode over neovim based on ease of use, and over JetBrains' GoLand based on it being free.

### "Visual Studio Code, the best IDE for writing code and implementing applications"

June 3, 2023

5.0

My overall experience with Visual Studio Code is the best b'coz I have tried many software IDE for writing codes and implementing applications and found VS Code the best.I used Visual Studio Code for developing applications and writing code for competitive programming and implementing APIs and many more things.

Pros

I am a software programmer and I highly use Visual Studio Code for writing code and implementing web applications. VS code is very easy to use and easy to write code for problem solving or Data Structure or Competitive programming. VS Code provides a lot of extensions for C/C++, PYTHON, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, GO, JAVA, JSON and all the available programming and non-programming languages. It provides a lot of extensions for snippets of all programming languages which helps to write code faster than all other IDE available in market.I started using VS Code from first day and still using VS Code for developing and implementing applications.

Cons

Visual Studio Code gets heavy while installing too many extensions for each programming language and installing snippets for particular language.Due to heavy load Visual Studio Code gets slow and works slowly while starting software.

### "Best free product by Microsoft"

November 28, 2022

5.0

In old days, we were using Netbeans for PHP app development. One of the issues we faced was intensive memory & CPU usage. So we were looking for an alternative. We found several tools and finally decided to stick with VS Code. One of the best features of VS Code is plugin support. We can add more features by simply adding a new plugin to VS Code. For PHP development, we use multiple plugins with Tabnine. Which makes development much easier. We don't need to type lots of code in VS code with these plugins.

Pros

It is free and easy to use. It can be used as IDE or Notepad with intelligence

Cons

Memory & CPU usage. VS code uses lots of CPU & RAM. Because it is built using Electron which is simply a web framework.

### "One of the best IDE for Software Developers"

July 11, 2022

4.0

I am really satisfied with Visual Studio Code and most of the features I use are free. It's a great IDE for programming. From development to deployment with Azure, I can perform all the necessary steps of the software development life cycle.

Pros

Visual Studio Code supports all major programming languages, and there are a lot of open-source free plug-ins to customize the IDE for a specific purpose. It's also got a very minimalistic, nice and clean user interface. It's easier to develop and deploy software applications using this IDE.

Cons

Visual studio code is not limited to a specific language, hence it's difficult to manage plugins when I use it for multipurpose for different programming environments say python, or C++. Also as the majority of the plugins are open-source, sometimes unusual temporary bugs in a plugin can make your life hell.

### "Coding in more Enhanced way"

October 23, 2022

5.0

VS code is a software that is mostly used by every developer, student or organization because it provides a lot of features that can not be given by any other IDE in today's time. The feature it provides for Upgradability like Modern Extensions , Bug Testing , Code Previews are phenomenal. It is a very good experience with this software and even today also i am using it. Its now really very difficult for me to look to other IDE.

Pros

It gives a few exceptionally strong elements that assist with smoothing out the coding system in different significant ways. The point of interaction is perfect and simple to utilize. On top of this, the augmentations VS code gives are amazing.

Cons

Contrasted with other code editors, VS code could utilize a less complex connection point. Nonetheless, the functionalities it gives as a rule balances the prerequisite to this.

### "Perfect IDE for almost any programmer"

November 15, 2022

5.0

I've been trying out various IDEs in the past - RubyMine, Sublime Text (2 & 3) or even VIM - all of them had their own pros & cons, but VSCode seems to be perfect in every field - its performance (it's very non-memory-heavy, despite the fact it runs as a Node.js application really), wide plugin offer/support makes it a really good choice for every programmer.

Pros

As a Windows 10/11 user, who left Unix-based system I really like its WSL/WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux) integration. Working with VSCode on Windows feels just like on linux/OSX. Also customization options (themes, syntax highlighting) are very wide and everyone can find something for their personal taste.

Cons

Unfortunately, I don't find any cons about this IDE - it's perfect for my needs.

Reason for choosing Visual Studio Code

On the whole, it's a good product don't hesitate to use it, you'll like it a lot, very easy to use with a built-in terminal no question of using even the command prompt, really it's the best since its creation and sponsored by Microsoft.

Pros

Especially the bug tracking and the localization of a function or a class from an object, very easy to use it's like if we use the MS Visual Studio in its simplified version.

Cons

There are too many bugs in the execution especially if we have opened more than 5 projects and some errors that often happen as it closes automatically, it's really very annoying.

### "Visual Studio Code the King of Text Editors"

July 31, 2022

I am currently working on web development, machine learning and competitive programming using the visual studio code. It did not let me down so far and I really enjoying working with this software.

Pros

The beauty of Visual Studio Code lies on its responsiveness, being so lightweight and vastly accessible by third party extensions. If someone is going to start coding I really suggest downloading visual studio code, because it does not have flaws, it is easy to adapt to and very visually appealing.

Cons

I do not have any major cons about this software. Once some of the extensions were not able to run my .m files and I solved it by downloading different extension.

### "Emerging IDE that is mightier than the available one's"

July 3, 2022

5.0

Excellent editor that every developer must have as a trick under their sleeves

Pros

The heap of Extensions made available are the best part after the intuitiveness of the product. The capabilities of the product are not limited for the developers coming from any background. Editor is super intuitive with debugging controls, themes, key mapping makes it more powerful. This IDE is faster with larger code bases as it is efficient with background caches. It consumes relatively less memory comparatively. The support for multiple languages is a major plus alongisde the extensions available for every single language.

Cons

Environment settings are not good - using, remapping is often difficult. Side by side diff view must be improved. Terminal has ton of bugs and often do not perform as expected. Too many updates enforces many restarts - I often receive pop-ups and I end up doing many restarts and most of the time rebuilding cache eats away battery. Git integration must be improved although it offers all functionality. Intellisense sometimes disappoints with unrelated imports not being properly prioritized especially with snippets

### "The very best of all worlds"

May 17, 2022

5.0

Visual Studio Code makes my entire workflow extremely swift. It works for all projects I own and contribute to and it fits in all ecosystems. It truly is great!

Pros

Visual Studio Code is incredibly powerful yet lightweight, with its plethora of extensions, advanced search system, and great text editing capabilities. It goes very well together with Git and GitHub and all your favourite tools.

Cons

It can be a bit slow to load up the program and activate extensions on a slow machine. Syntax highlighting also is slow on slow machines. The sign-in systems often randomly log me out and logging in is bumpy sometimes.

### "Best in class code editor for my life"

June 25, 2023

5.0

VS Code is really the best option I've seen for programming and as far as I've seen, its the most powerful tool out there. It can create almost every type of projects and supports a lot of languages. Also, one thing I would like VS Code to do, is to create their own terminal make it uniform so that any user can use it for any environment and can run Linux commands too in a windows machine.

Pros

Since I started using VS Code, my programming life has never been the same! What I like most about this editor is its incredible versatility. It has a lot of programming languages. I can switch between languages quickly. Also, it has an extensive library of extensions. From the smallest indentation extension to code debugger helper. It has everything a programmer would need. Also, the community support is great. All the docs help me so much. It has everything that other code editors don't have. Helping in syntax errors, line errors, etc. It is a powerful and a strong tool for developers.

Cons

The thing I hate about VS Code is that it has a lot of things at the setup and was tiring. I had to watch many videos and docs to ensure everything was ready to go. Not a single-click setup option. Also, sometimes, the extensions are not updated. I have to manually update them. And sometimes it crashes which is very frustrating.
