"Less and Less Useful. "

**Overall:** Since I wrote the first review in 2023, I've found that I trust Squirrly less and less reliable. The scoring system is ridiculous, with it often telling you everything is hunky-dory on the backside and super broken on the front. So I can’t trust this tool to give me relevant information. The SERP feature remains somewhat useful as a starting place, but Squirrly is extremely literal. The reality is, Google sees GEO terms and good and services in the same copy and understands that the copy is discussing goods or services that are available in that area. Ex. If I need a geo word like "St. Louis" and a product or service like "roofing company," to get a strong SEO score, according to Squirrly, it should be something like "roofing company in St. Louis" in order to rate. But Google isn’t that literal. And when you do a search for those words, it also won't give you a potential score for how well it will do on your site until after you've downloaded the word or phrase. So you can wind up with a database full of words that may or may not work for your client, many of which have a searchability index of "0 to 10," meaning that zero to ten people might use those words, which is pretty useless. So even if you have a long-tailed search phrase that promises to get your client to the top of the page, almost no one is using it. Support is shaky on the best days. When I asked what "not indexed" meant in the context of SEO phrases, tech support gave a vague reply that didn't apply at all. "Not indexed" actually seems to mean "We can't tell you how well this word will do on your site, so use it at your own risk." I can do that all by myself. The list of glitches continues to grow. Presently, I have two "focus pages" (pages that should contain the most relevant information about the client's business) with red symbols all over the rating system, even though every single item has been addressed multiple times—the words are all there the right amount of times, title and subheadings are the right length with the right seo term, the featured image is named properly, and the snippets are addressed. But it isn’t seeing them. The lags continue to be an issue. When I need to see whether the changes I made to a focus page will help, I don't have 10 minutes to wait on Squirly. My advice to Users who are considering using this tool is to look elsewhere. It is rapidly becoming a virtual paperweight with very little value as a tool for Content creators.

**Pros:** It has a decent database, and it can be used as a checklist to make sure all bases are covered. In that regard, it remains handy.

**Cons:** It's grown increasingly glitchy over the last year. There are sometimes large differences between the "scores" when working on the front and backside of Wordpress. It often doesn't recognize featured images, despite downloading and renaming them and reuploading them. It is extremely literal and encourages key-word stuffing copy, whether it's a blog or a page.

Vendor Response

By Squirrly on May 11, 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for having used Squirrly over the years. We want to clarify one important aspect regarding the SEO Assistant and scoring system: Squirrly’s Live Assistant was intentionally designed to work with exact keywords and exact matching. While Google has evolved significantly in understanding context, entities, semantic relationships, and GEO intent, not all search engines work the same way, and exact keyword relevance still carries ranking weight across many environments. For example, there is a measurable difference between naturally mentioning “roofing company” and “St. Louis” separately versus using the exact phrase “roofing company in St. Louis.” Search engines may understand both, but they do not necessarily score or rank them identically. The purpose of the assistant is not to force keyword stuffing, but to provide measurable optimization signals based on proven ranking methodologies that have delivered results for years.

"Game-Changer for SEO"

**Overall:** My experience with Squirrly SEO has been positive. Its user-friendly interface, real-time content analysis, and effective keyword research have improved search rankings and traffic.

**Pros:** The software is frequently updated to stay in line with the latest SEO trends and search engine algorithms, ensuring continued effectiveness.

**Cons:** I find that the tool's predefined suggestions are not always a perfect fit for their unique content or SEO needs, limiting customization.
