When I reach out to customer support through AI chat, then to a live agent, it seems to take the agents a while to present a solution. It is almost like they forgot about you and your issue. Owner Accounting Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Financial Cents: Powerful, Affordable Practice Management That Streamlines Month-End Close" May 4, 2026 5.0 Overall, I'm highly impressed with everything that I have used Financial Cents for in my bookkeeping firm, and I'm excited to learn about more of its features and how I can use those to efficiently provide my bookkeeping services to my clients both now and as my firm grows. Pros Financial Cents is by far the best practice management software for small accounting/bookkeeping firms. There are many features that I have come to truly appreciate, with many more that I haven't dug into yet in the short time that I have been using their software. I am appreciating the customizable workflow templates to quickly add the standard bookkeeping workflows to every client but then also add tasks for their one-off situations that don't apply to my other clients; I am absolutely loving the built in invoicing and billing platform to take care of collecting payment from my clients; the Client Portal is extremely easy for my clients to use to securely share documents and to answer questions that I have about transactions. The Month-End Close functionality is huge, it has helped me cut down the time it takes to do month-end tasks drastically. I'm very impressed with the performance that has been built into this software, and as time goes on, I expect this will only increase. The ability that is built in to sync both with my firm's QuickBooks Online account, as well as my clients makes the onboarding and monthly task work streamlined. The AI tools built in to make efficient work more possible has already saved me time each month. Speaking of onboarding, I was really impressed with all of the tips and tricks that were communicated clearly as I began my use of the service, and any time I have had questions, they have been quickly answered either in the built in support library or their very helpful support staff. I also appreciate how affordable of a service it is, my bookkeeping firm is 100% remote and my overhead costs are very minimal. The price point for the Financial Cents subscription is definitely manageable and much less than other options for practice management software. I highly recommend Financial Cents to any accounting or bookkeeping firm, it has already helped me out in my small firm and has the ability to scale as my firm grows both in clients and eventually employees/contractors. Cons I haven’t been using the software for long, but so far I haven’t found anything I dislike. I also appreciate being part of the Facebook group, where I can learn from other users of the platform and hear about software updates that are being worked on or implemented. FC is an affordable, flexible, time-saving PM system that my clients actually use—NO PASSWORD! FC is helping me scale my practice and my additional niche specific services with confidence. Pros Flexible: I run my bookkeeping firm in it, track client administrative projects and nonprofit coaching tasks in it. This is amazing for me as I have a diverse set of business offerings and it fits the bill. Accounting software Integration: FC offers payment processing that integrates with my accounting system, AND integrates directly with my client's accounting systems to supporting and easy month end close process - saves clicks and time all around. NO PASSWORD client portal: This was the biggest hurdle with my clients in my old practice management system! Financial Cents removed that barrier and my clients are using it. What a breath of fresh air! Centralized Client Resources: Being able to put links to external resources is a game changer for me. Add that to a centralized emails inbox and it is huge time saver. Other things worth mentioning: Calendar View is so helpful - and lacking in other PM systems! FC's tutorials are straight forward and great for visual learners like myself. And, built in time tracking is helpful in understanding time budgeting for my diverse service offerings. Cons Niche templates: I’d love more ready-made templates for specialized work (especially nonprofits). The workaround is that the community template library is extensive, genuinely helpful, and I plan to contribute as I continue building nonprofit workflows. Lack of calendar integration: A two-way sync with Google/Outlook (projects and meetings) would make the calendar truly amazing, especially during busy times. I'm hoping that is on the near horizon - fingers crossed. Template Import/Export: You can't import or export a template to work on it outside of FC. I am a Tax Dome user. Even though Tax Dome is great, it's too expensive. Pros Financial Cents has been an excellent tool for managing my accounting and financial projects. It makes it much easier to keep track of where each project stands, what needs to be completed, and what items are still outstanding. One of the features I find particularly helpful is the ability to request and track documents from clients. Instead of having to keep track of outstanding requests through emails or spreadsheets, Financial Cents gives me a centralized place to see what has been requested, what has been received, and what is still outstanding. It has also helped me stay organized across multiple clients and projects, making it easier to manage deadlines and ensure that nothing falls through the cracks. For example, there’s no option to use “Shift + Enter” to format the email and make it look more professional. I also tried sending a document request email to myself, and it didn’t look very polished—there’s definitely room for improvement in the email presentation. Another issue is that my clients rarely use the “Attach Documents” button; they tend to send documents directly to my email instead. I am not sure why but I think they are not confident to upload their documents directly in the portal? Additionally, the note-taking section could be enhanced. Pros Financial Cents is very easy to use, everyone in our firm was able to figure out what they need. The reporting contains everything we need and is easy to access. The templates are great, and its also very easy to customize whatever we need. The different pipeline views are helpful as we can each customize it to what works best for us so nothing slips thru the cracks. The time tracking ability to have multiple timers that you can switch between and add notes as you're working is also very helpful. The client task reminders and upload portal are great and intuitive for our clients. Cons Using Financial Cents on a mobile device is not nearly as nice as using it on a computer. Accessing client uploads is not intuitive on our end, and the client chat does not always notify us or the client, especially if a project is already closed. The client portal is simple and secure, letting clients upload payroll files without needing a login, which saves me hours. The QuickBooks Online integration works perfectly, syncing invoices and data smoothly for my bookkeeping and payroll tasks. File management is excellent, with organized folders that make collecting and storing monthly reports a breeze. Pros It is a fantastic workflow tracking software. It has been a game-changer for us. It is easy to leave notes and to keep an eye on the progress of projects because the whole team can see the status at any time. It has upped our efficiency, keeps us on track, and helps us keep key information (e.g., sending a paper vs digital return, text rather than call preferences, etc.) that is unique to each client visible, so we can best serve our clients. Cons Support is a challenge. More often than not, the people on the live chat are unsure of the answers and frequently need to escalate issues to the design team and other relevant teams to find solutions. The ever-changing updates make the software feel underdeveloped, and that we are just one giant beta test for a company that does not provide a ready-made product. It was especially disruptive to have updates that disrupted the regular flow in the middle of tax season. Support is usually quick and helpful if you need to contact them for an issue. Although not customizable for some reason, the client information is laid out well and includes all communications with the client as well as any resources needed. We don’t use the email section but it is nice that it has the ability to add multiple email accounts. User permissions are pretty detailed but it would be nice to create your own custom roles. Cons Honestly, the software feels incomplete and hampered by some really perplexing design decisions that really hurt productivity. There is no easily accessible area to view all communications with the clients or staff. For some odd reason they based all of the recurring projects on the due date instead of the start date so you have to calculate when the project is created based on how many days before its due. File management is atrocious. You can send file requests to clients monthly but after they upload you can only download or manipulate one at a time. There is no file editing capabilities built in but there is also no way to sync files so you are forced to download them each time. When uploading files after working on them it doesn’t give you the option to replace the existing file, just creates a separate copy. The worst has been their billing service that they implemented this year. They will hound you to use it even if it is a downgrade from what you are using. Additionally, they gated useful features like expanded reports and proposals to the billing module so that you can’t use them if you don’t use their merchant services. Overall, I would say there are better solutions out there but unfortunately we have already committed with a couple of clients and won’t make them learn new software so we are stuck with them for now. I have been using it to process payments for about 6 months now, and that has been a great experience. I am still utilizing all of the different pieces of financial cents, but I don't see dropping the tool any time soon. Pros I really enjoy each feature that I have access to. It is very easy to get started with and to transition clients into. I love that I can manage documents, passwords, client communications, set up recurring or non-recurring templates with recurring monthly tasks for each client. I think the integration between QuickBooks for both quick access to the client file in QuickBooks and the chart of accounts, transaction connection is extremely useful. The customer service team has been helpful every time I have reached out. Cons I wish I had access to the account that receives deposits without having to go through support, and I really wish there was an option to invite team members to the lower tier option. Updating this feature would improve both efficiency and communication tracking.
