Consultant Consumer Electronics Used the software for: 2+ years ### "My go to video production app." August 26, 2025 5.0 Overall, I enjoy the app. I use it all the time for my video projects and would recommend it to anyone who has an android tablet or phone. Pros I went to school in 2005 for video production. When I purchased my first android smart phone, I came across the power director android app and loved it. I ourchased the full version right away. Project creation has been easy with features like titles, video format, color grading and viedo creation being some of the best for android. At the time, the price I paid for the full version was great and I've never had an issue with security of my files. Cons The customer support has been a bit lackluster. I have never gotten a clear answer about why my app will be fully logged in as full version sometimes and then other times it cannot find my license. When I request help or ask questions, I get brushed off or told to just clear my cache or log out of all other emails in the android system before it will be recognized. Its annoying as heck. Way back, I though of it as the most advanced video editing software I have, not until I realize - After Effects and Premiere is waving at me. Yup, I recommend this editor for simple users who don't need elaborate learning curve. It's simple with editable templates and collateral. Pros \- Simple straight forward video editing software. Though, they have done improvements on this since I have used this software way back 2009. - Templates are readily available.- Text animations, video transitions, color grading in couple of clicks.- Easy to learn. You don't have to sweat it out. So, this is not for pro editors. This is best for Vloggers with linear contents.- Libraries to help you out is available.- Free version is also available to try out.- Fast and quick render. Cons \- Rendering and preview engine is not that good. Sometimes the project freezes and lags. They need to improve on this one.- Watermarks on free version. Cons As someone who has used many professional (Adobe Premiere) and beginner friendly video editors, there's a lot of room for improvement. 1. The subtitle editing is very buggy, even if I had changed the wordings in the sidebar, they don't show up correctly in the preview, and I've been met with many instances of incorrect wrong subtitles in final video. 2. The editor is very taxing on the system (even though my system meets the requirement and beyond) for some reason, I've had to restart and redo my edits in my instances because when I moved too quickly the software stopped responding, if my video files are too large, it becomes very laggy. 3. The UI is not very intuitive, keyboard shortcuts are hard to remember. Switched from [Adobe Premiere Pro](https://www.capterra.com/p/233456/Adobe-Premiere-Pro/) Switched from Capcut due to user content ownership and copyright concern. Capcut was my go to because it's not expensive very easy to use. Adobe Premiere Pro is great but I don't need most of the advance features for my current work, and it's too expensive. The clean UI helps me to think creatively. Overall this software is the best of all I have used till the date. It has all neccessary features like green screen, blending, stock library, etc. The motion tracking feature works nicely. The best part is that it I can use different plug-ins to maximize my work quality. I feel very comfortable with its interface and I'm keen to learn more videoing skills. Pros I came to video editing with absolutely no experience as a result of the COVID pandemic and the need to produce a video and upload to YouTube. After researching other products, I setted on Cyberlink's PowerDirector 365. The product has a relatively easy learning curve. I like the uncluttered user interface and everything logically organised on the monitor. The use of the GPU when rendering videos saves lots of time. It suits almost all your editing needs. A wide range of video formats is supported including 4k. It is also fast in rendering but you can make it even faster by optimising GPU hardware acceleration. What I really like about it is that it is compatible with Chromebook Cons As with most video editors you need a high-end video graphics card to enjoy it and that depends on your pocket. I mostly use PowerDirector for morning announcements at our school. I have my students do much of the editing but I help them out when they have trouble. Pros PowerDirector is much easier to use than any other video editing software. The UI is easy to understand. I like the tutorial that they have you work through when first downloading. It walks you through all the important features you most likely will use. I also like that you can export different file outputs depending on what you are playing to upload your video to. If you are new to editing and want an easy way to start, this is probably the best way to do so. It's got a lot useful features and is generally well rounded with what it can do. It's definitely not the greatest and I personally would say after a while, if you do edit videos on a higher echelon of quality, I'd say switch to something more dynamic that has more to offer. Overall it's great, and I'd say anyone who's interested should try it. It has a free version to wet your whistle and give you a taste of what it can do if you don't want to spend some money right away. Pros PowerDirector is very straightforward. Everything you need and want is at your fingertips and doesn't require much knowledge to use effectively. It also has a lot of useful tools, such as chroma key or animated transitions that can be tuned and keyframed to your desire. It also has audio and photo editing features built in if I recall. Cons In some ways PowerDirector lacks compared to other software. For example, I don't remember there being any motion graphics other than animating the position, rotation and scale of images and videos. Also for people who use the free version like me a lot is cut that's in the main version, but that's to be expected. Also on older versions when editing large videos the application would just crash over and over and ultimately because of that (and the watermark) I had to switch to another video editor. It is very powerful with many features of which I may only use about 50% of them. I highly recommend this program to anyone starting out in video production. If there is something you need help on during your production, there are many UTube videos form the company and private users that will walk you though you activity. Up to 3 videos can occupy the same space, whether you decide to have one as picture in picture, or split screen, etc. Individual videos can be cropped, can have adjustments in color, brightness, etc. Transitions between pictures or videos are also useful. The "AudioDirector" tools are a hidden gem, and it will export the audio from a video, allow you to apply equalizers, boosts, and moderate sound effects. Compression is another option in the editing. Once done, it returns it to the video. This is true of ANY edit to the audio. So, when there were times when the audio was out of sync with the video originally, I could edit the audio slightly, and when returned to the video, it was a SEPARATE file that I could "nudge" until it was properly aligned. That is tedious to be sure, but I am thankful for the option. I use the audio features as much as the video at this point. Recently I have learned to use chroma (green screen). It is ok, not flawless, but it does allow fun options in changing backgrounds. I have a hard time completely eliminating the slight green glow at the edges, but maybe there is more fine tuning I can do. My hair is fine, and the green slightly shows through it. Pros I feel this software is reasonably intuitive once you get over the initial learning curve (and no matter what software one has, the initial learning of how it works takes time). Cons Very little that I dislike. I wish it "produced" the videos faster, but that will be true of all, I'm sure. I most recently upgraded to "365," but I REALLY do not like subscription software. All in all, this is a good editing software to begin your journey in the process of content creation. Pros The almost precise naviagtion and cutting features when dealing with clips down to the frames. So I don't have much difficulty when editing on a smartphone or tablet. Cons The export qualities given restrict videos that were originally higher than 1080p. I used it for years, but newer versions became clunky and dated. I switched to different brand, though PD is still quite formidable. I also used the product to edit out bad clips. I had a monthly PowerDirector subscription. I liked it but I wasn't sure I wanted to purchase it outright and the subscription cost too much. None of the others were as good as PowerDirector so I invested in the outright purchase. It has absolutely paid off. Pros I love using PowerDirector since I can really let my creativity shine. The color matching stands out since I've never been impressed with it in others. PowerDirector also has 3D editing and access to stock photography. I love the transitions and effects. Pros I like the way this product meets our needs of DVD and video production. It is easy to import and edit videos and sound clips. The multiple tracks is great and the video preview built in is nice. I like the ability to download and add features and content from other creators and the output options are nice. The variety of title screens, presets is nice. Works well on a PC. Cons My least favorite aspect of Power Director is the time that it takes to burn a DVD / create Folder. I can edit a project fairly quickly now but I have to factor in an hour or more for burning and finalizing even if I didn't make any major changes and only burned the video.
