Pros After spring being extensively used, API testing is made very easy by using postman. It allows the get,post,put and delete as well. There is an option to save the API's to a collection. And have specific environments configured also. Possible to add security like credentials/tokens required for the API calls. Cons I don't feel there are any negatives for postman. User interface can be made better which would help beginners to explore more features. The only thing why we moved to Katalon Studio is there are few options that are licensed in Postman and free in Katalon Studio. Pros Easy to setup and use. We used it for testing APIs that we developed. We can test in multiple environments by giving the urls as variables. Easy to share with team as well Cons Some features are licensed. For startups, this feature may not be great. There are other tools like Katalon Studio which offers same automation service of API testing for free as open source. Reason for choosing Postman We tried a tool called lisa but for manual testing we felt Postman is good enough. Lisa is licensed tool. Pros This software is very handy and very much easy to use. Very much supportive during the testing process. easy to check the results through API. Flowing information and connectivity functionality is amazing. Highly recommend to the QA people when completing their routine jobs. Cons the interface is quite okay. I've previously used it to understand requests and API in general by playing around with my company's API - postman helped me a lot as a person that does not code, only troubleshoots the customers. Now I use it a lot to train new employees that do not have any background with API, and they also use it in their daily work to troubleshoot the customers and learn how our product works. The option to download pre-populated libraries is great. Cons On a free version, there is no way to open up the library without the connection. I understand not being able to perform requests, but not being able to just check the already downloaded library contents? It has really helped our team collaborate and stay up to date with changes to third party and our own APIs. Pros As a support analyst, I'm constantly using Postman. Some of my top used features are sharing collections with other support users, exporting requests to cURL or other formats to send to third-party vendors, and session variables. Cons Some features can be very hard to find, I also have some unsolved issues with requests that do not work within Postman but do work with the cURL it generates. I have used it to create live requests because of the Environment feature. Pros Using the teams feature of Postman is very convenient to share API requests with a dev team. There are a lot of great options like Authentication generation and Environments that make creating API requests very easy to test (or even use fully if desiring to set up a Production Environment). Cons The only problem I have with Postman is that once you have used up your team subscription trial, you can no longer view what your team has shared until you get the paid subscription set up. POSTMAN is a wonderful tool for automating API requests not just for testing engineers but also for developers. It comes with building convenient workspaces for different APIs. Also unlike its competitors, POSTMAN has a very user friendly graphical interface that looks appealing as well. Cons Load testing on POSTMAN is not as comprehensive and easy as its competitors like Apache Jmeter. Cons Sometimes it gets a little bit heavy, for example when running on not really high-performance computers. Cons When a new version is available and the one u use is deprecated a warning popup becomes visible indicating that the version is deprecated and the user must download the latest version from the website. It is good to inform the user about version changes but auto-update functionality would be really nice instead of directing the user to the website. Pros With this tool I can test my API that I am building and it allows me to check the correct operation of logic in the different methods and it can be easily configured to test in different environments such as development, testing and production, whatever. In addition, it allows you to share with your work team the collections you have configured, to save work time. Pros I create customized requests with headers and parameters. I can create Apis and save them inside collections. Creating collections make everything organizable and I can export and import them easily. Postman can be integrated with jira and github. February 26, 2021 5.0 i create Rest APIs with it daily and it helps me do it faster Pros the best thing i like in it the collection of APIs, you can create/import/export APIs collection with just a few clicks. you want to share APIs with someone just export your APIs and send that file to anyone, that person only need to import it and he will have it the exact same way as you. The UI is cool and easy u can write scripts to perform various operations like taking a session header from one API response and add it to another automatically. I really recommend it. Cons to be honest i do not have anything to dislike here. i use this software daily and i have never come across with anything that i want to be changed or be better, its just perfect. However, if you are a power user or part of a team the cost for the Pro versions is relatively inexpensive for the additional features that you will receive. The ability to document your APIs and share them makes it easy for your users to implement them and test them within Postman too. Cons The only criticism of the Postman software I would have is that sometimes the user interface can get confusing and it is easy to lose where you are and not locate the correct place. I found myself using it more and more for API work and testing until we started using it regularly. I do think there are better enterprise tools available, but this should absolutely be on the table. Pros Amazing amount of functionality baked into this tool. Whether you are using the free version for testing projects or using a paid plan, this is your first stop when evaluating API solutions. It's easy to deploy and fairly easy to get ramped up on. I even have non-technical users who use this. Cons The history function is handy, but hard to differentiate between numerous similar calls. I know I had one of the 30 calls yesterday afternoon that gave the the response I wanted, but it's not easy to figure out which one. Some sort or starring or rating may be helpful. This is incredibly valuable to us or anyone that is in the situation. We have loved having this tool available to us. Pros We are currently working on a new platform implementation and Postman has made it possible. Without Postman we would not be able to test API endpoints that don't currently exist for us. Postman makes this easy and also possible. Cons Postman was honestly quite easy to pick up and use. Our development team has loved it, but have also noticed some performance issues.
