Trying to put in hard expenses, ridiculous! Could not get anything I tried to populate. No way to sync bank accounts or to upload data, the options for expense items is far too limited. Maybe they are set for Canada, but we use more specific expense categories, such as subpoenas, and process servers, and not just private investigators, but in house investigation, and more. The user must be able to add categories of expenses. Pros Appeared to be intuitive at first, but then a bombshell, actually many bomb shells in trying to use the application. I am not sure I liked anything about it. Cons I bought this product and was immediately put into NextGen and the banking features I need for IOLTA trust accounting are not available. How can this be? I did not knowingly choose to purchase what appears to be a beta version of your software. You need either the banking features enabled in NextGen or my account reverted to Classic, or refunded the annual fee I paid tonight. This is blocking critical trust account setup for our law firm. It covers most of the essentials well and keeps things organized, but it could benefit from additional functionality and performance improvements. Still, it remains a strong choice for small and mid-sized firms. Pros CosmoLex provides a solid all-in-one solution for legal accounting and practice management. It keeps billing, trust accounting, and case management in one place, which helps streamline workflows and reduce the need for multiple platforms. Overall, it’s reliable and user-friendly once you get used to it. Cons Some functions are missing or could be improved. There’s no automatic stop for work when a client’s trust balance reaches zero, which would be very useful. The system can also be a bit slow at times. Support is generally helpful, but they haven’t implemented a few feature requests we’ve submitted. Many bugs that make day to day use very annoying. I keep getting emails from employees, telling me I'm not using their billing services that they keep charging me for - which I am not, because of what I wrote above - AND ASKING THEM TO CANCEL my services and issue me a refund and guess what? I've received nothing except, they still gladly fail to respond and a different employee emails me the following month and they keep charging me for it! What's worse? Cons The merchant services billing system doesn't work as well as LawPay. The CRM I also pay for doesn't work. The credit card services option takes longer than my current provider to get the money deposited into my bank account! Want to know what's even worse? This must be a FTC violation.....but, I've written probably 20 different emails to Cosmolex employees trying to cancel these services for more than a year, maybe more than 2, and I'm still getting billed for it! Absolutely ridiculous! It also takes a forever to open a new file - way too many web-clicks, loading, ancillary pages to fill out it is my least favorite things to do, period! The salesman told us that clients could upload documents into a client portal. NOPE! Not a live function yet. We paid to have assistance with moving from prior system. WASTE of money. We did all the work, and what they did for us had to be redone. Pros The OLD version. NextGen is not ready to be deployed. It is very glitchy. ONE example, timesheets "clear out" already entered data. Known issue for over 6 months. No fix. Makes time entry annoying because you often have to double enter information before it "takes". Cons Live Support Chat--HA! Hasn't been available "live" in months. To get assistance, you ask for live support, they email you DAYS later to schedule an appointment. Often, the "trainer" has no idea what you need or how to accomplish the task. One example: we needed to print an invoice for our contingency fee clients to use as evidence in court on our fee petition. The possibility to tag and link emails from your inbox to a matter. Cons The fact that sometimes restart withour reason and that makes you lost the changes of the matter you are working or the emails you are tagging. The customer service is designed to waste your time. It is about you having enough time to switch to another software. Pros The initial sales pitch is great but once they have you, zero customer service and prices keep skyrocketing. Cons It is a terrible user experience after years of using it. Pros easy to use. but i do not recommend it, there's a lot of limitations. Cons \-Does not proportionally apply payments to fees, taxes, disbursements which is a serious problem. Cosmolex priorities the taxes and hard cost. So if invoice balance are written off, taxes are overpaid which is not compliant to Canadian tax act and lawyers are underpaid. -The system doesn’t have a report for client introducing lawyer, which is common as most firms pay out referral fees. -Payments for multiple clients is also limited -Users who have timekeeper restrictions are unable to access reports. PC Law is an old system but had this feature. Cosmolex is supposed to be a more sophisticated software. So, 1 person is responsible for generating reports to lawyers. -Having reports downloaded as documents is inefficient. Instead of double-clicking the numbers on the report and the transaction and the transaction opens up, you’ll need to do more steps and find the transaction itself if editing is required.
