This tool was evaluated to see if large amounts of data could be transferred while encypted. Cons This tool does not detail the billing queries as I thought would happen. The reports are only showing main folders and not details. It has made us more efficient, kept us organized and on-task, and has greatly assisted with accounting and record-keeping. Pros Cosmolex is a one-stop, complete practice management program for law practice. It handles file and task management, billing, and accounting. Monthly bank reconciliations and client invoicing are a breeze. There is an option for an integrated payment service to accept credit card payments. Customer support is excellent, and I don't feel like I need to be a tech wizard or an accountant to use the program. I can stick to what my job is - lawyering. I feel like Cosmolex provides good value for money. Cons There is not much to dislike. Occasionally, it goes down but this is infrequent and limited to perhaps twice a year or so for a few hours at a time. Trying to put in hard expenses, ridiculous! Could not get anything I tried to populate. No way to sync bank accounts or to upload data, the options for expense items is far too limited. Maybe they are set for Canada, but we use more specific expense categories, such as subpoenas, and process servers, and not just private investigators, but in house investigation, and more. The user must be able to add categories of expenses. Pros Appeared to be intuitive at first, but then a bombshell, actually many bomb shells in trying to use the application. I am not sure I liked anything about it. Cons I bought this product and was immediately put into NextGen and the banking features I need for IOLTA trust accounting are not available. How can this be? I did not knowingly choose to purchase what appears to be a beta version of your software. You need either the banking features enabled in NextGen or my account reverted to Classic, or refunded the annual fee I paid tonight. This is blocking critical trust account setup for our law firm. It covers most of the essentials well and keeps things organized, but it could benefit from additional functionality and performance improvements. Still, it remains a strong choice for small and mid-sized firms. Pros CosmoLex provides a solid all-in-one solution for legal accounting and practice management. It keeps billing, trust accounting, and case management in one place, which helps streamline workflows and reduce the need for multiple platforms. Overall, it’s reliable and user-friendly once you get used to it. Cons Some functions are missing or could be improved. There’s no automatic stop for work when a client’s trust balance reaches zero, which would be very useful. The system can also be a bit slow at times. Support is generally helpful, but they haven’t implemented a few feature requests we’ve submitted. Customer service can feel like they are more interested in "closing the ticket" than solving your problem. Pros Integration with accounting - this is why I have stuck with Cosmolex. Invoicing used to be good but has gotten more difficult with recent updates. Cons Clumsy, unintuitive interface that got worse with recent update. Worse than Clio except re. accounting. Many bugs that make day to day use very annoying. While for years I raved about the product, its been going downhill since 2021. All they do is increase prices without generating more value to consumer. Final straw for me was when they locked me out for alleged billing errors, even though from my end they were collecting money from me every month. They refused to address the issue until I paid first. Stay away from them and their unethical practices. Pros used to be good for a whole host of things. One of the few software for both legal practice and financial managemetn. Cons Been with Cosmolex since 2017/2018.... I keep getting emails from employees, telling me I'm not using their billing services that they keep charging me for - which I am not, because of what I wrote above - AND ASKING THEM TO CANCEL my services and issue me a refund and guess what? I've received nothing except, they still gladly fail to respond and a different employee emails me the following month and they keep charging me for it! What's worse? Cons The merchant services billing system doesn't work as well as LawPay. The CRM I also pay for doesn't work. The credit card services option takes longer than my current provider to get the money deposited into my bank account! Want to know what's even worse? This must be a FTC violation.....but, I've written probably 20 different emails to Cosmolex employees trying to cancel these services for more than a year, maybe more than 2, and I'm still getting billed for it! Absolutely ridiculous! It also takes a forever to open a new file - way too many web-clicks, loading, ancillary pages to fill out it is my least favorite things to do, period!
