Pros The product is really easy to use and implement. Having a central tool for users to request items and admins approve and purchase is helpful so as to not have to create and manage this business process. Being able to re-order items quickly is nice to have without having to keep track independently. Cons It takes quite a number of steps for the admin to get through checkout. Also if there can be an amount limit tiers that can be set for what requires approval and what does not and who needs to approve based on the limit. Reason for choosing Quartzy There was no system prior to Quartzy. The lab relied on one person who had individual accounts with different suppliers to order items. Review Source FS Ferass S. Prior to Quartzy, we manually documented purchases with shared excel sheets, which became unorganized very quickly. I would recommend Quartzy to any lab. Pros The ease of finding products through a single database makes purchasing for our lab simple and organized. There is also the fact that Quartzy automatically compares the price of the requested product to similar products from other vendors. Cons The inventory system may sometimes be difficult to manage. We use it all the time to order or reorder things that maybe we don't remember where we got it. Item numbers and information are all readily available. Pros This makes ordering things for our laboratory very simple and streamlined. They often have good prices when ordering through them, but it does not limit you to purchasing through them if you find a better deal. Cons Some of the prices are marked up, even with the "discount" but honestly this is remedied by checking prices yourself and ordering that way. Review Source BF Beth F. Pros Quartzy allows anyone in the lab to add items that need to be ordered. It is very easy and intuitive to use. Even our undergraduate students can have accounts and use Quartzy. It also allows you to add where each item can be found. Cons Quartzy at one time had sections for lab recipes/SOPs and documents, but this feature was removed at some point along the way. We miss it! Pros My favorite thing about Quartzy is how easy to use the software is, how quickly we got it set up, and the ability to save money by purchasing through quartzy. I also really love the feature to have a list of previously purchased items with detailed information, and the ability to update order status to inform the team when an item is received. Cons My least favorite thing about quartzy is its lack of barcode scanning features or looking up items using image capturing technology, but I am being ambitious. It instantly brought structure and centrality for everyone to use in this time of social distancing and work from home. Forgot individual emails or a shared document, those methods are things of the past. Quartzy is easy to implement, easy to customize, and most importantly FREE! Cons It would be nice to be able to add a required by date on a request without marking it as "Urgent". If I could add this information without the stress the "urgent" label brings to our lab manager, we could better group and consolidate orders to achieve maximum discounts. We have definitely saved a considerable amount of money using this exceedingly simple to use platform. Cons There are no APIs to talk to other software platforms, so implementation of crosstalk to financial software for the generation of purchase orders and tracking budgets/spending is exceedingly difficult without having to jump through hoops or duplicate efforts. This is the greatest weakness of the Quartzy platform.
