Pros I like that I can easily search for a book using the dashboard either by scanning or typing in the title. The kids are able to check in and out book with minimum suppervision ( easy to use for all year groups) Catloguing books is made easier with the Download form option. Cons When checking for users by class I always have to search the class again for me to check on another user from the same class. The Renew loan doesnt seem to work on my end, I always have to just check in the book and out again in the case of Renews. Cons Sometimes its difficult to figure out how carry out a particular action, because while most things are intuitive, some are not. That, and I would love to be able to add 'junior admin' licences with two options and not need to buy an additional admin licence. Our library system was built in the 1970s. Our library had so much to offer, but the world needed us to offer so much more. Helping me take on the task was most likely the most significant project for many SLLS staff. However, they provided us with a great deal of help and showed their kindness as we ventured into the world of digital literacy. Pros SLLS was beyond patient with us as we transferred our library system to SLLS. I appreciate all the wonderful people who displayed their patience and did not hesitate to help us! More functional system, able to export reports, brilliant help guides for new and existing users. There is no stock check mode which is a shame and we have had to do this manually so this could be something that could be worked up Pros Easy to issue books, add and remove them. Able to down load the overdue loans reports, Able to do daily uploads of new users, sends out automated messages to remind learners to bring books back to the library. Good service overall. Cons The search function is not always great especially when we have added new books. Takes a few attempts before it works. Does not have a stocktake function. Had a few issues generating certain reports. And the team at Bailey Solutions was very supportive at every step of the way. Cons Some of our Australian ISBNs are not recognised by the system. However, there is a manual workaround for uploading those details and also a cover image. Reason for choosing Simple Little Library System Everything seemed too complex and too expensive. The platform's user-friendly interface and robust administrative controls allowed us to tailor the library precisely to our needs. Additionally, having everything available digitally has significantly enhanced our efficiency and accessibility. Cons Coordinating meetings across different time zones proved to be a bit challenging, and some staff vacations at Simple Little Library caused slight delays in our schedule. There are all sorts of 'new' changes which I'm not sure are helpful. Seeing these in action would make that more obvious. Pros Ease of issuing and returning books - ability to set up different admins. IT team usually very help. Cons The IT updates! These invariably change something that was working perfectly well before which when you have multi users, most of whom are not familiar with IT, causes difficulties. June 20, 2025 4.0 Using Simple Little Library System has been fairly smooth. I took over from someone without a handover. The team from SLLS arranged video calls to help me get set up. Since then, they have been incredible about any little glitches we have had. I have had additional phone calls and they respond to emails very quickly! Pros Easy to use, once you have the training! The support team are incredible and will get back to you ASAP. Cons Some parts of the website can be a little clunky (adding new books), and other things are a little hard to find eg. Volunteer system librarian Libraries Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Thoughts on our first year of using SSLS" August 9, 2021 5.0 We have found SSLS to be effective, intuitive and attractive. we started from scratch with a vanilla production environment and in 11 months had catalogued enough books to open to the public (albeit on a Click and Collect basis from May 2021 until July 2021. We now have almost 3,000 books in our catalogue, 42 volunteers and 325 members. We could not have done this without SSLS and the help and support from the Bailey's team who have been fantastic. Many thanks to them! Pros We had no prior system in place - our community library has been set up from scratch. We found that SSLS was the best match to our system requirements document on paper and subsequently when we undertook a live trial. Three librarians thoroughly tested the system and found it to be surprisingly sophisticated for something that was being promoted as 'simple'. As we were starting from scratch, we found the system to be intuitive and the Help pages useful. We also appreciated the support from Bailey's team that we received. Importantly, we felt that Bailey's values were aligned with our own. It felt like a comfortable fit. Cons Thankfully, we weren't undergoing a migration to SSLS so I can't comment on that aspect. There are no huge issues about the software that cause us concern. As system librarian, I have a couple of niggles which I have already mentioned. Firstly, the work-around needed for us to run a click and collect service (reservations of books available in the library). The work-flow could be improved. Secondly, the reporting does not allow me to report upon most reserved and most issued (popular) books to inform our collection development planning. These reports would also help in the reports I present to our Trustees to demonstrate the impact of our library and requests for increasing internal funding of the book fund or one-off pump-priming of under resourced areas. Reports that focus on impact would also be helpful in our library promotion and when writing bids from external funding bodies as we are wholly dependent on donations whether financial or in book form. Reason for choosing Simple Little Library System We had produced a detailed systems requirements document against which we compared the products. We discounted Koha as we did not think we had the technical support to enable us to go open source. SSLS compared very favourably against Reading Cloud on the requirements list. We also had concerns about Capita based on our librarians past experience. Also, and importantly, SSLS had a much more transparent approach which gave us confidence in the team and the product. " August 1, 2019 5.0 This has has been a fantastic experience especially when there is no dedicated librarian. The kids love it as they can browse for, return and reserve books on their IPads anywhere in the school. Pros Simplicity is the keyword here. This is the simplest library system I have used. Easy to setup, easy to configure and easy to manage. We were looking a flexible system that adapts to the needs of our school and we found it. Cons It's very hard to find any of these except sometimes some books ISBN numbers are not in the catalogues but a quick email or phone call to support and they always have a solution at hand. My use of SLLS is a straight forward law library application. I would say that I most appreciate the Finance section. I like to be able to run a monthly check and compare it to the accounts department printout. Pros As in the words of a - very old - shampoo add, SLLS is a very simple use and go product. The dashboard page contains all the hints, not only on instant access to the page I use most - serials quick Check in - but also where I might want to spend some time on Library admin. Alerts for forgotten details, overdue parts and overdue orders, they are there to help me. Cons Nothing really. I find that if I have a problem, the technical help is available immediately.
