We've used Prometheus metrics as part of our monitoring and observability workflows across multiple services and environments. It helped us identify performance bottlenecks, investigate production issues, and build visibility into system behavior. Combined with Grafana dashboards and alerting, it provides a reliable way to monitor distributed systems without adding much overhead. Pros Prometheus has been a reliable part of our observability stack for monitoring both infrastructure and application metrics. I like how easy it is to expose metrics from services and build dashboards around them. The integration with Grafana works well, and having a common way to track latency, resource usage, database health, and service performance makes troubleshooting much faster. Cons The biggest challenge is the learning curve around PromQL and understanding how to structure metrics effectively. As environments grow, it becomes important to manage dashboards carefully. Setting up meaningful alerts can also take some tuning to avoid unnecessary noise. These aren't deal breakers, but they do require some time and discipline. Pros Its ability to support metrics received with the OTLP protocol allows for extended platform support, as well as allowing the use of a standard that is supported by many other platforms, facilitating easy platform migration. Cons Although it supports metrics, it does not support traces and logs, so to relate them other platforms are needed, and depending on the platform the integration could be more or less complex. Pros I have recently started using Prometheus for one of my projects. It is petty and much easy to use. It helped me monitor various matrices for my spring boot app. You can integrate this with graphene to get the data in a much cleaner and easier way. Cons There are no cons to using Prometheus. Cons Some of the cost calculation fields are harder to program with our set up. Cons I was unable to see the full capabilities of the software as the data from our system was not available at the time of the demo.
