Since I have found this, I've introduced it to multiple people at work. This has been very helpful in depicting data in a simple and easy way to variety of audiences. I wish they advertised it better. Pros 1\. It is free 2. It connects to your Google account 3. It can connect to a whole variety of data sources, I have been using several Google spreadsheets 4. The ease of inserting a table, a graph, scorecard, heatmap etc 5. It is visually pleasing 6. It can serve as a live dashboard with custom and malleable date ranges 7. It allows you to easily switch around different chart versions 8. You can embed a Google spreadsheet! and scroll through the live Data Studio file! 9. All sorts of sharing settings 10. Can also download as a static PDF file 11. They have a basic training online, and there is a world of articles and youtube videos to help you 12. You can create new fields, rename them etc Cons 1\. You have to link by tab for each spreadsheet, which is tedious. It would be nice to be able to link multiple tabs and spreadsheets at once. 2. There is no option for an automatic refresh if there is a change in the base file -- you have to go to View and hit refresh (not intuitive either). 3. The legend text often gets hidden and is not easy to resize and move around. 4. I couldn't find any option for inserting headers or page numbers automatically. Review Source Prathima K. It connects easily to Google services, and supports a smattering of other data sources. It is easy to use and has some power under the hood that isn't obvious at first blush, especially with recent updates that permit better data aggregation and transformation. Cons It is very good for relatively simple dashboards, but if you are looking for larger scale "enterprise" tools or want more flexibility in data management, it's probably not a good fit. Maintenance of dashboards is highly manual and it is nearly impossible to create template reports or duplicate them for other similar data sources. It provides easy and native integration with all the Google products and also a host of third party tools. Cons Setting up a report in Google Data Studio isn't super easy as it is on some of it's competitors. But with some time spent, it does a great job. However if you want to start building more complex dashboards, it can be extremely tricky to use. I also like the fact that one can creates his own visualisation. To have this level of customisation is quite impressive. Pros Almost seamless integrations with BigQuery and Google Sheets. As with everything in the Google environment, if you use other tools from them, the integration is extremely easy. Overall it's very simple to create a simple dashboard that answers simple questions. Cons There seems to be some bugs for example when switching from two similar datasets (same dataset names, same field ids and same field types), the underlying graph definitions are somewhat altered (some graphs disappeared, for other the filter is gone, etc). So, if you are using all these for your business, it is a great way not to get lost with the tools you are using. Google Analytics and Google Ads are great at showing results, but with the addition of Google Data Studio, you can have a powerful vision of your KPI completion in one click, saving you a great time. Cons the connection between other Google tools is, however, not generous. Most of the time in your business, with your own KPI, you will find yourself defining your own parameters in Google Analytics. Those customs parameters cannot be extracted to Google Data Studio at the time this review is written. You can only access to the default Google Analytics parameters, which can be very frustrating when trying to create valuable dashboards. Every department in the company is fully dependent on it and it is a big part of every daily meeting we have. Pros We've been using Google Data Studio for over a year and it's been a great expereince. It gives you options and functions to make sure your data is fully correct and presented in the best way possible. Would recommend 100%. Cons The very first report/dashboard we had to build, was somewhat time consuming. That being said, it got much better over time. The more you learn the more you get out of it. I can’t recommend this product enough. Pros I love Google Data Studio. I have automated 90% of my Google Analytics and Google Search Console tasks by just building dashboards with all of my relevant data. I can’t speak highly enough about this product. Cons I think more custom data sets can require Some technical or at least some spreadsheet skills. If you don’;t have those it can be difficult to troubleshoot this product. Works well! Pros I like the Google Data Studio lets you automatically pull the data and KPIs you need from other Google platforms (like Analytics, Sheets, and Ads). It's so great for working with clients specifically who may not be platform-savvy. I also like that it's possible to tie in non-Google platforms like Hubspot, etc. though it does involve jumping through some hoops obviously, but there are possibilities. I also love that so many people can collaborate on it easily, as with all Google platforms. Cons Sometimes GDS is finicky, like having to change the date range in multiple places in order for edits to actually stick. Otherwise, the fact that many more platforms beyond Google exist does make it limited. There is a steep learning curve for things like tying in Sheets, but nothing overwhelming.
