I have been with them since Totum, and have decided to rough it out so I would not lose my early adopter pricing. I also am reluctant to switch as I have already sold my clients on the software as I had full intentions to make it part of my practice. But the experience has been so bad, I am seriously considering abandoning the service and going back to it manually. Or switching to Riskalyze if I can get a better price point.

Pros

The concept of TIFIN is excellent. It is a very convenient way for financial advisors to demonstrate to clients how risky their portfolio is with the use of a simple risk score. This concept is very similar to Riskalyze, but for half the price.

Cons

The problem with TIFIN is that it is excellent in concept but awful in execution. I use Schwab as a custodian. Every quarter I have to battle with the software and call upon numerous members from customer support to help me upload the portfolios because the integration does not pull the portfolios from iRebal automatically. Kellie from customer support is very helpful and will eventually upload them up for you. But this is far from an automated experience I bargained for. Other members of customer support are just not experienced enough. I have email threads running from May till today November 24, trying to resolve issues like automatically updating my portfolios, having old ones deleted etc.. The plan for TIFIN is ambitious but they don't have the bugs worked out yet.

Reasons for choosing Tifin Risk

TIFIN has much better pricing. But it does not work well. And as soon as it does start working well, they will try to raise the price neutralizing the cost advantage you had signed up for. They had already attempted to raise my price when I have yet to receive any value from the service. I pushed back on this, and they honored the price I was given. However, the fact they even tried before having a fully functioning product, speaks volumes of where this is going. I highly recommend waiting until this product has all the bugs worked out and only sign up if they provide some guarantee that they will keep the pricing the same for some predetermined time. So you can enjoy the benefits of a functioning product instead of having your money go towards their R&D just to get your prices hiked up once the products starts adding value to your practice.
