### "For an average database, RDS is a great managed service"

April 19, 2019

4.0

I would choose RDS if I were hosting a database that would occasionally need a moderate amount of scaling and if I did not want to get into the details of administering it.

Pros

It's super easy to scale your database instances with a simple command through the CLI or through the web UI. It is also super easy to set up a master-follower pattern.

Cons

It is a bit pricey compared to just hosting your own DB on an EC2 instance. The instances themselves also are not as configurable as I would like at times (timezone, etc).

### "RDS is a fully managed relational database system, with different type of DBMS support"

May 9, 2021

5.0

This is a great way to use a relational DBMS without managing it , it is a great experience using this service

Pros

RDS support different DBMS's like mysql, postgres, and also a hybrid Aurora, Taking snapshot and creating a new DB with the snapshots are easy, can also schedule snapshot taking, We can set all the network settings to the datable , like VPC, subnet, security groups etc.. to keep the DB secure, Using Aurora we can also setup a dynamically scaling up DB, which runs on server-less system methodology

Cons

I don't have any problems in traditional DBMS's , but have seen some issues with hybrid Aurora, In Aurora, setting up the Copy to S3 future require some additional effort, And auto scaling in aurora should have been configurable, since the default scaling policy is 90% of CPU usage, the system is not responsive for scale down, it never scale down to 0

### "Nice for Bootstrapping a Project"

February 26, 2019

5.0

It has its place, especially for green field projects. Its also a decent live backup solution for having a slave server or two sitting outside of your network.

Pros

It takes away the need for me to maintain a system just for developers to hack on. The backups are simple to restore and automatic. If something breaks the restore procedure is a few clicks. It abstracts away a lot of the DBA work that I don't want to do. I can still log into the server from the terminal. It is easy to make clones.

Cons

In my experience it is expensive. At large transaction volumes it would likely be better to get a dedicated hardware solution. In general the learning curve for most AWS services is a lot for a proprietary solution. I wouldn't want store business critical data on a vendor locked platform like this.

### "Amazon RDS all database services and no management worries."

April 24, 2020

5.0

Used Amazon RDS on multiple applications the scalability of the RDS really helped in load intensive tasks and the easy backup provided by the tool helped in many cases when data was corrupted due to human errors.

Pros

It is one of the most simple and lightweight solutions available in the market with amazing scalability as per the usage, its disaster recovery is great. The read replica structure helps to manage a huge load. Supports various DB services such as Oracle, MySQL, Postgres and SQL Server.

Cons

The management of the RDS parameters becomes a difficult task if you are not familiar with the UI. The price might be on the higher side for small projects with large data storage.

### "Quick setup, a state of the art execution of managed cloud database hosting"

September 24, 2018

5.0

Pros

The ease and setup in starting for the first time. There is almost no learning curve. Also the options of availability, read replicas, and backups are unmatched. This is one of the best platforms to host any type of database.

Cons

I have no qualms with Amazon RDS. I was having some issues connecting to my database at first, but it is almost always a user error. AWS RDS is a solid platform and service.

### "Best quality ever!!!"

September 13, 2022

5.0

I don't want to give too much detail, but I have to say that it is the best database software I have used in my life. You get a smooth service from general quality to customer service and it is very cheap compared to similar applications.

Pros

Amazon continues to achieve the best in this field as always. I think it is good that it dominates the database market because it is a good example and competitive environment for other similar applications.

Cons

I have not had a bad experience, I am extremely pleased. Using amazon credits jointly on all services is an impressive feature. I did not have any compatibility problems and I was very satisfied with the overall quality.

### "Much better and efficient to use RDS rather than building your own database infrastructure."

July 18, 2019

5.0

Pros

If you have a choice of building your own infrastructure for the database server, or choosing RDS, I will suggest , go with RDS. Amazon has made it very easy to create your own database servers. All you have to do is ,log in to aws and choose RDS services and the memory, storage capacity, user access as per your requirements. Also, backup your data in s3 for later use.

Cons

Your entire dependency is on Amazon servers, so that could be a con

### "A great way for managing databases"

February 22, 2019

5.0

Pros

If you need to have an instance of a DB fast, RDS is for you. In a quick way you can create an instance and have access anywhere. If you need to create backups just some clicks, or some call to the API, it's really easy to use.

Cons

Probably one disadvantage it's that doesn't support a lot of DB, but supports the most commercial. So that depends on what you work.

### "it's very easy to work with RDS"

July 29, 2019

5.0

Pros

Amazon RDS (Amazon Relational Database Service) is a very powerful Service hosted by AWS. It's very easy to Setup and Run complex Database Instances. You can choose between Amazon Aurora (AWS own database System), PostgrSQÖ, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle and MSSQL Server. It's very easy to Setup Things like Data Replication or Scale the DB up or down.

Cons

if u are using MSSQL Server you are only able to work with the database engine - SSAS is not available (which makes sense in the context of working wih a database but it might me a stumbling Stone)

### "RDS can be used to solve your relational database issues"

June 20, 2019

4.0

RDS has bee quite good with the small databases we have set up. We do not use it for a highly available solution, but as something which contains very low data and does not need to be used too much.

Pros

RDS is fully managed, so no need to managing the software on your own. The pricing can work for you if you are using the software moderately.

Cons

The shared security provided is quite a let down. AWS also does not provide the best insights into the performance of the database which would be available if you chose to set up MySQL on your own.

### "If you are a small team or startup, this makes your life easy."

April 25, 2018

5.0

Pros

Using RDS its easier to setup and maintain relational databases, we dont need a professional DevOps engineer. Its easier to scale and supports almost all major relational databases.

Cons

There are no such cons to this product, only thing is its a bit costly. Also if you are starting up a product/project it's costly since there are no small instances available. Even for a development environment, you have to buy a large machine. Apart from these since it saves a headache, its worth the money

### "Best solution for cloud data storing"

August 25, 2019

4.0

Excellent experience. We don't want to worry about underline layers

Pros

Easy to create, configure and manage relational databases through the web console. Integration with our application is seamless.

Cons

Sometimes it takes more time to execute and get the results when compare with local database instances in EC2.

### "Amazon RDS is a great reliable service! "

July 31, 2018

5.0

Pros

Amazon RDS, among other Amazon services, is a great service. No headache setting up and managing MySQL servers on my own. All of that hassle is handled by Amazon now, so our engineering team can focus on more important things. Once you figure out how to navigate and setup the service, it becomes very easy to setup things like auto-scaling. Backups are easy too.

Cons

It's a little bit tricky to figure out all of the nuances related to setting up and configuring the clusters.

### "Amazon RDS enables easy setup for databases"

April 30, 2019

5.0

Pros

Amazon RDS helps to setup databases like Oracle, Postgress, mysql on AWS cloud very easily and everything is on clicks. It helps in setting up big infrastructure increasing nodes decreasing nodes easily. really your should not think about hardware and installation process of databases. Also provides nice dashboard which helps us to understand health of system.

Cons

Not really negative but you should properly estimate how much infra is needed for your project and setup accrodingly, Billing is main important thing in AWS if you over build infra than required it will cost more. and also as it is pay per use need to monitor usage and downgrade if needed to save cost.

### "Amazon RDS: The Solution you are looking for"

December 3, 2019

5.0

I use it everyday for one of our clients catalogue of products and we've never had problems.

Pros

Its performance has been flawless since the beginning, it also makes constant updates to keep your data secured and it provides you with tips and tutorials on how to make your DB secure and keep it working perfectly.

Cons

I think it could be way easier to use, at the beginning I used to get confused because there were too many options in a confusing dashboard. But other than that is great.

### "Fair Pricing but worrisome policies"

February 18, 2021

5.0

Overall the process of setup was fair and reasonable and my fears are likely overblown.

Pros

I liked the pricing and the support was adequate, if not directly then indirectly on forms and the like.

Cons

I worry about policy makers who are willing to police what information can be shown on a hosted site and what they may disagree with in the future.
