The staff is always supportive and can fix or point you in the right direction on how to fix the issue. Pros Our choice to go with TriNet saved us so much money. After the transition we were able to deep dive into their other product offerings and are working to replace two third party tools with a cost effective TriNet feature. I've been with TriNet 8 out of those 9 years, and I have used CPEhr and ADP in other organizations. TriNet support team and portal have been the easiest to use and navigate. Pros I love how easy it is to manage payroll and W2s. Having employee onboarding and exit in the same place we manage benefits and performance is fantastic, especially for a SMB team where HR wears many hats. The chat feature for support is my favorite because I have help in real time, and very rarely is it difficult to communicate with the TriNet representatives. Cons It is pricey, but much like insurance you see the true value of the price once you start needed to use the resources available on the TriNet portal, mainly OSHA questions, payroll questions, and some legal employer-employee obligations. The disconnect between what sales offers / promises and reality is significant. If I were an executive at TriNet, I would be concerned about retention and brand reputation. I will not recommend TriNet to anyone. Pros The sales experience was the highlight. Once we were handed off from sales to implementation the experience has been extremely negative in all aspects. Cons Where to start - the overall experience has been awful. Inconsistent messages, representatives (we haven't had one consistent rep since joining), process and pricing inconsistencies. The overall customer experience the awful. The employees are responsive and knowledgeable. We have employees in multiple states don't have to be aware of every state employment law. We've never had an issue with security breaches or product issues. Payroll entry is quick and simple, 401k administration is through Empower and employees have access via mobile app, too. Pros TriNet is an all-inclusive PEO that's easy to learn and simple to use. The website is well-built and intuitive to navigate. The Chat feature makes it quick to get an answer to a question or help to resolve a payroll issue. There are numerous healthcare choices for employees to select from and multiple additional insurance options available. Cons The growing cost of healthcare has hit all PEO and private insurance companies but our annual cost for medical insurance has been acceptable thus far. I think it's easy to get in touch with my rep who is familiar with our account, as well as open a case with their support team for anything more complicated than a single direct question. Most of what they do is fast, simple, professional, thorough. It's not a cheap platform to be sure but it is extremely reliable and saves our team lots of time, so we're fine with the cost. Pros Ease of use, especially payroll processing. This process used to take me most of the day using other payroll providers, but I can complete this task in under an hour every two weeks now. And we have a mix of hourly, salary, part-time and full-time employees so our payroll runs are not simple. Cons Setting up custom paid leave and time off plans. As I mentioned above we have a mix of FT, PT, hourly, and salaried employees, and we have different leave plans available to some groups and not others. Trinet is not extremely flexible in this way leaving us to pursue workarounds and other strategies to keep track of various comp/flex time. VP of People Operations Non-Profit Organization Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "TriNet HCM" February 13, 2026 4.0 Pros I started using TriNet when they acquired Zenefits, so we were using a specific version (HCM) that I really loved. I enjoyed the simplicity of the product, I thought it was very user-friendly for both admins and employees, it was easy to set up, inexpensive, and made onboarding, payroll, and benefits a breeze. Cons TriNet stopped supporting the Zenefits product and some features started losing functionality (ie: no more integration with background check partner). They then required our account move to a new version and pricing structure. We used TriNet for nearly 6 years and if not for that change, we would have stayed with them indefinitely if it weren't for these changes. If you have a small team of HR and/or accounting, I would definitely look into TriNet to save a lot of time and unnecessary headache. TriNet's Leave of Absence process has improved recently but for years, I had a hard time getting answers in a timely manner. Our employees find it easy to use, with time punches, benefits, and personal changes such as home address changes. And this makes my job much easier! Pros The TriNet team is a great team to assist with any issues or questions that arise. They are always quick to respond! Our employees find the system easy to use. Whether it is processing payroll or making changes to employees jobs or pay, the process is easy and quick. Cons Would like to be able to create more reports specific to the data that is needed for meetings. It is time consuming to take the reports available and tweak them to what is needed in a short time period. But, the TriNet team always responds within 24 hours when there is a special report needed. Cons Just a minor detail, but the graphics, ie the category icons are a bit dated. I have learned so much about HR through The Wing Community, and it has made me a better overall employee at the business I work for, with skills that I can take with me anywhere I go. Pros What I like most about TriNet is the customer service, seamless user interface, and The Wing community. Everything I need to conduct my HR duties is right there on the dashboard. If I ever need assistance with a task, a customer service representative is always there to resolve my issue quickly. If I need to provide more details, I like to create a case on the platform, and it is always resolved quickly as well. The Wing is a community of other HR administrators who also use TriNet where we can share and learn from each other and from TriNet. There are so many valuable resources there that have greatly increased my skills in all things HR-related. Cons A con that I have found with TriNet is some confusion on billing. I have noticed that some charges will appear on an invoice for prior periods, but it will not say that on the invoice. They make it easy to manage different HR functions when you don't have a dedicated HR/Payroll employee at your business. They take a lot of the guesswork and getting help is usually pretty easy which is much appreciated. Pros I appreciate TriNet is always trying update their systems and offerings. I also appreciate how quickly they respond and I really like working with my rep. Kerri is always so helpful and gets me the answers I need in a quick fashion. Cons Sometimes the offerings are a little clunky. I don't love the time card system. I'd love an easier system, like copy a whole day instead of input bit by bit. They manage all employer-related filings across the states where we have employees, and payroll is calculated, processed, and reported accurately without requiring hands-on involvement from our team. This automation gives us confidence that everything is handled correctly and on time. Cons Accessing certain reports can be challenging. Some reports are not readily available within the system and must be requested directly, which is not always obvious unless you already know they exist. Like I said it's a reliable platform functionally but it doesn't have the most refined UI. It is easy to navigate and user friendly. Pros Trinet is very user friendly and easy to navigate. When I first started my new job the onboarding process was fairly straightforward. Navigating their platform since intuitive. I know right where to look for benefits, time off, expenses, etc. Cons While the onboarding process was straightforward, the method of choosing health plans and dental plans was more difficult. It allowed you to review everything and select your preferred, but then I had to remember what I selected and deselect at a later stage, making it difficult. There are some things not as clear on the back end too. For example, if you are not assigned an approved for your business expenses, and you submit an expense report, nobody at the company is notified and the report somewhat disappears. It is simple to learn and provided good functionality for onboarding employees and processing payroll. It was also one of the first HRIS platforms I learned how to use. However, I do think that the customer service needs to be improved as it can sometimes be difficult to get a hold of a representative and you might not always get a straight answer. Pros Great payroll processing functionality and transparency, easy to navigate. Selecting benefits was also simple and platform had great guides to follow for instructions. President Internet Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Quite possibly the worst company we work with" February 5, 2021 1.0 My experience has been horrendous. I don't have enough time to list them all but here are the highlights: (1) They have made several serious mistakes in payroll that caused my and my team countless lost hours. (2) They no longer have a personal rep who knows your account, you now have to go through "Connect 360." I was just in a chat session and the rep said "hold on, while I research your issue" and then the chat timed out because of no activity. No one followed up with me. Now I have to start all over with someone else who has no idea what they're talking about. Have you ever worked with Comcast before? Do you love their support? Well, now you can get the same robotic and ill informed support from TriNet. I could go on. We are in the process of moving away from TriNet as quickly as we can. Pros I have found nothing that I like about TriNet. Cons When I was "sold" on using TriNet I wasn't told that their technology was some of the worst I had seen. They did upgrade some of the web software but there are still places where you click and find yourself in the old horrible software that is klunky and difficult to use.
