### "Great PEO and outsourced HR solution for small businesses"

November 11, 2021

4.0

Overall, we've had a good experience with TriNet. The "outsourced HR" platform TriNet offers is the right decision for our small business so we don't have to invest in internal HR personnel.

Pros

TriNet helps us manage payroll, talent acquisition and retention, support for our employees, access to "big company" benefits and helps our management team with proactive risk mitigation and data compliance.

Cons

TriNet is expensive and the support we received for our company 401(k) plan was not good.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing TriNet

### "User friendly software for smaller businesses with one location."

October 20, 2025

4.0

TriNet is very user friendly, easy to navigate and great for a small business. It is intuitive and somewhat customizable. I can't say it was a great value for money. For less costs, we could have switched to UKG. We ended up leaving them for ADP due to having multiple companies that we needed to manage that TriNet was just not capable of doing under one dashboard.

Pros

I used TriNet when it was still Zenefits. Overall, I think the software was very easy to use for payroll and employee pay, benefits administration, performance reporting and tracking, onboarding, and employee management. I will say, the program was easy to navigate, which allowed for a very minimal learning curve, which I appreciated.

Cons

I would not recommend TriNet if you have multiple companies that you need to manage within one system. This made payroll management and running reports quite the ordeal. I had to run the same report, in each company profile, and then combine the data. When you're doing this for 8 companies, it can be annoying. The other thing about TriNet was the payroll compliance issues. It would take a representative FOREVER to acknowledge receipt and then even longer for an answer. I had to stay on top of them constantly.

### "Small startups to bigger vendors"

December 14, 2025

3.0

Trinet was a bigger company. They didn’t want to spend time and effort for smaller start ups. Mergers are generally messy for their customers.

Pros

Trinet was good for HR and Payroll. Working with their staff. It’s time management system was quite reliable.

Cons

Trinet acquired my old vendor Zenefits then jacked up the price by 3X. Merger of the two was painful.

### "Hassle Free Payroll"

December 3, 2025

4.0

We work with an excellent Account Representative who makes collaborating with TriNet easy and efficient. Communication is prompt—typically within a few hours when we need assistance—which makes a significant difference in our overall experience.

Pros

TriNet removes the burden of staying compliant with state employment laws and regulations. They manage all employer-related filings across the states where we have employees, and payroll is calculated, processed, and reported accurately without requiring hands-on involvement from our team. This automation gives us confidence that everything is handled correctly and on time.

Cons

Accessing certain reports can be challenging. Some reports are not readily available within the system and must be requested directly, which is not always obvious unless you already know they exist.

### "TriNet is the only employee payroll system you’ll need! "

December 16, 2025

5.0

TriNet is a holistic platform for all of our HR and payroll needs. It’s easy to use, secure, and overall reliable!

Pros

TriNet is an extremely reliable platform. My team and I utilize this for any information and processes related to payroll and HR mangament, as well as tax forms!

Cons

Nothing, TriNet has provided everything we need across the board to access our data related to payroll, tax information, and HR related data.

### "Good for small US subsidiaries but expensive, watch the minimums"

December 17, 2025

3.0

TriNet served its purpose as our first US payroll solution and handled the basics competently. The low employee minimum made them accessible when we were just starting out. However, the cost became hard to justify as we grew, and their inflexibility when we temporarily dropped below minimums forced us to switch. Good starter solution for EU companies entering the US market, but be aware of the price premium and contractual requirements.

Pros

Allowed us to run payroll for our US subsidiary starting at a low number of employees, which was critical as a German company expanding to the US. Benefits integration worked well and saved us from managing multiple vendors.

Cons

Extremely expensive per employee. Software felt clunky and dated. Most critically, don't dip below their employee minimum.

### "TRINET SOLUTIONS"

January 8, 2026

4.0

It was great. iT was a huge help since we were so new. Trinet was very supportive and walked us through each element of HR. And helped decrease our risk and liability.

Pros

Trinet was really helpful for our organization. It helped us organize everything we needed as a new organization. It helped a lot that they were able to trouble shoot any issues which took a huge weight off of us. Since we already had so much to do.

Cons

We were a new organization so all the information was a bit overwhelming. It was confusing to understand how exactly Trinet worked & each segmented division.

### "Easy As Pie "

October 27, 2025

5.0

My overall experience with using TriNet is a great one. I use this daily and the fact that I can access my pay stubs easily is a Big PLUS. I'd definitely recommend TriNet to others.

Pros

I'd have to say that the one thing I like about TriNet is how user friendly it can be and the perks that they have.

Cons

There is only one small minute thing that was not a huge fan of is when i want to check my time and attendance for my hours I have to leave the app and be redirected to another one.

### "Overall good system"

January 12, 2026

4.0

Overall it was a good system. I know companies that use and love TriNet, it just didn't work for the business needs at the time.

Pros

TriNet had great customer service and we had a great account manager for HR related items. The system was fairly easy to use.

Cons

It didn't support our international organization the way we hoped it would've. Also, the system wasn't as intuitive as you wanted it to be for certain processes.

### "Clunky System Needs Updating"

October 28, 2025

2.0

TriNet was a system that I felt could've provided more value. It was mostly used for HRIS data and payroll and wasn't as great as expected.

Pros

I liked that everything was all on the home page and there was a chat feature that I used quite often.

Cons

It was a clunky system with not a whole lot of helpful features. It often left me wanting more. I hope they've made more updates since I used it in 2022 and 2023.

### "Secure & Easy to use."

August 4, 2025

Trinet has good customer service. They have been able to help me when I call in with questions. Easy to use. Secure.

Pros

It's easy to use and allows me to go back in the history and pull reports of payroll. Trinet is the perfect most secure tool to use for payroll.

Cons

Trinet has been easy to use. Good customer service. Trinet is also very secure so I am never worried.

### "TriNet Review"

March 20, 2025

3.0

As a former HR rep, I've had a good experience using TriNet. It is simple to learn and provided good functionality for onboarding employees and processing payroll. It was also one of the first HRIS platforms I learned how to use. However, I do think that the customer service needs to be improved as it can sometimes be difficult to get a hold of a representative and you might not always get a straight answer.

Pros

Great payroll processing functionality and transparency, easy to navigate. Selecting benefits was also simple and platform had great guides to follow for instructions.

Cons

Customer and phone service can be slow and unresponsive at times.

### "Trinet is a scam"

October 25, 2023

1.0

Trinet is a scam. They have very non-transparent pricing. With all of their reports, it is next to impossible to understand what you are paying. It turns out they are ripping off their customers. My monthly service fee has more than doubled in 3 years from $500 per month to $1100 per month. My worker's compensation has increased to $1400 per month per employee when the maximum payout is $1099 per week--most companies have a maximum salary when calculating workers compensation. My medical premiums have increased from $48,000 per year per employee to $150,000 per year per employee which I believe is a direct violation of the affordable care act. Trinet has many reports and emails and alerts but you can't find these hidden prices any where. Avoid them at all costs because on top of these scam prices, their service is horrible.

Pros

Over five years ago, Trinet used to save me money on health insurance and time on payroll. Now it provides lousy service at insanely high prices.

Cons

### "TriNet as a Professional Employment Organization"

December 2, 2023

3.0

TriNet is ideal if you have a small business that cannot get a good small company health insurance quote (usually less than 10 employees). However, once you get over the minimum threshold to compete in the insurance market, then TriNet is of little value.

Pros

TriNet is easy to use and provides all you need from a payroll, benefit and HR perspective.

Cons

The overall cost is high and the health insurance benefits are low to average quality, with fairly high deductibles and poor coverage.

Reason for choosing TriNet

We switched from TriNet after we found better alternatives that work much more cost effective.

### "You don't have to be an accountant to use TriNet Expense"

February 16, 2018

5.0

The ease of use, the sync'ng capabilities, and the upload features were some of the best. Also, it was very cost effective.

Pros

This was one of the easiest apps to train people on. Even those staunch pencil pushers really like how easy it was to scan receipts from the mobile app and it would automatically sync with the desktop app, I loved the fact that it was compatible with QuickBooks desktop when we were using it and it saved us hours of keying in the information. It had cut the expense processing time by at least 2/3.

Cons

I was really upset when TriNet decided not to support QB desktop and now supports QB online only. We have to have the desktop version of QB due to our inventory tracking system not available in QB Online. I had to terminate our contract with TriNet. Also, they did not have customizable reporting 3 years ago. Not sure if they do now or not.

### "Good but has issues"

January 12, 2024

4.0

Pros

I like their support the most. They are actually very helpful all the time (even though the chat box will kick you out if you don't respond in 30 seconds) and the platform is easy enough to navigate. We've received help with any issue that came up pretty promptly.

Cons

There have been a number of issues we've experienced with Trinet, mostly around employees going on leaves of absence. It's pretty hit or miss.

### "Love This Platform!"

December 11, 2020

5.0

Pros

Tri-net makes it easy to get any information related to my benefits with my employer at anytime. They even have a mobile app so I can get info. on the go.

Cons

There are no drawback that I encountered in my 7 years using this software. Any time I had an issue, Tri-Net came out with a fix.

### "Room for Error"

April 10, 2018

3.0

I haven't used another HRIS system to compare TriNet but the benefits were that they take ownership of all payroll and legal related issues.

Pros

My current company has used TriNet for over 3 years, it was a great tool when we were a start up, but we have expanded to over 200 employees. The new Beta site is great as it's easy to use.

Cons

How often the site kicks you out and the inconsistency of certain things like creating new employees in TriNet. Just to login the site is very sensitive and takes multiple times to login. The turnaround time is mostly within an hour for responses but sometimes can take up to days or a week.

### "Benefit selection for Small companies is excellent"

November 15, 2022

2.0

Other than the excellent benefit selection, i dont love it.

Pros

Benefit selection for Small companies is excellent - variety and pricing. Our increase in rates over the past 2 years has been only about 5% per year.

Cons

The platform is limiting and nothing can be done retroactively. But more importantly, the customer support is very difficult. Its tough to get to the right person, sometimes it takes up to 3 days to get a response, and the quality of the CS in frankly, not good. I assume that is because they, like everyone else, have a staffing shortage.

### "Easy to Use Expense Platform"

January 6, 2021

5.0

It was frustrating to move to another expense platform when I was fine with the last one we used. But TriNet expense has proven itself to be easier to use and has my complete satisfaction.

Pros

I use TriNet expenses every week for my expense reports. The platform is straightforward and very intuitive. I have to mark prepaid for most of my expenses since it was paid via a company card. TriNet expense makes it very easy to select whether the company originally paid for the expense with their credit card or if you need reimbursement because you paid for it yourself.

Cons

I occasionally have issues logging into the platform. I.e., it loads slowly or won't load at all. But that hasn't been an issue in the last 6 months.

### "Constantly having problems"

January 2, 2017

3.0

My organization has used TriNet expense for about 2 years. We like it because it syncs with our accounting system and our company's American Express accounts, and it has a Direct Deposit option for employee reimbursement. However, at least once every couple of months, there's a problem that arises with one of these features..with the systems not talking to each other or some other error. Then the TriNet customer service folks are a bit clueless, and it takes weeks for the problems to be resolved. We're in the process of reviewing other systems and will be hopefully ditching TriNet in the next couple of months.
