Overwhelmingly positive. I am very satisfied with our database and grateful to work with the VC team.

Pros

I have been using Vertical Change daily for over 5 years now. Here's where I think it shines. (1) Their versatility and customizability, including allowing us to: (a) build and customize our own forms to enter our data, (b) build and customize reports to export that data back out, (c) edit our user interface, (d) import data from other sources, and (e) limit users' access to sensitive data via permissions. (2) Their responsiveness, friendliness, and expertise. Their customer support staff never shy away from my (often complex, niche, and difficult) bug reports and questions, and they are always willing to help as best they can. (3) Their user-friendly interface. Over the years, I have trained dozens of people—from basic users to program managers—on how to use Vertical Change. The most common feedback I receive is that it "seems straightforward", and several times, I've received a sigh of relief that it is "easier than expected". Additionally, VC are continuously tweaking and improving their site's UI and features based on user feedback. (4) Their breadth of features. There are far too many to review here, but they range from the very basic—like collecting different demographic data based on different client types—to the very advanced, like: (a) using the importer to update hundreds of form results at once, (b) limiting users' permissions to view and edit individual fields within a form, and (c) coding scripts within forms to auto-calculate values so that staff don't have to (e.g. billing codes, assessment scores). (5) Their report builder. Anything you enter into a form in VC, you can pull back out into a CSV or Excel workbook in just about any structure you want. Within their report builder, you can, among many other features: (a) include and reorder any columns of data from your forms; (b) filter by date range, search term, empty/not empty fields, and more; (c) auto-calculate age at time of service; (d) group rows by client or family, and (e) save reports that always update in real time to use again and again, e.g. for monthly or quarterly reporting needs. All of these features, flexibility, and support combine to create an excellent database that my agency has relied on since before my time to collect our outcomes and report them back to our funders.

Cons

This is tough to answer, since every bug I've discovered and wishlist feature I've dreamed of have been graciously received—and typically promptly addressed—by the customer support team. With that said, here are some examples of improvements that Vertical Change can, at the time of this review, still make: (1) Build a feature to refer contacts (i.e. clients, participants) to other organizations who are also using Vertical Change. That is, allow us to share select clients—including select demographic information of theirs and notes about the referral—with the other organization, thereby eliminating the need for an external referral process. (2) Build a feature to allow customers to combine our own duplicate contacts (rather than submitting a merge request to VC support). (3) Squash those elusive bugs that occur only occasionally in the form builder (e.g. lag/errors when moving fields within long forms) and in form results (e.g. saving as incomplete when actually complete). (4) Increase the user-friendliness of importer version 2.

Working with the VC team was an incredible experience and the platform contributed significantly to collecting, monitoring, and reporting on program deliverables and outcomes. As such, we were able to continuously use data for continuous quality improvement which then strengthened our programs and made it even easier to secure larger grants.

Pros

I began using VC over 10 years ago. Working with the VC team was a collaborative and solution-focused process. There were no hidden fees, or features that could only be accessed by paying for an upgrade. I have since found this to be incredibly common among other providers (looking at you Social Solutions). The platform was user-friendly and could be tailored to our unique and ever-expanding needs. I have since left the organization where I first used VC and have yet to encounter an EHR/database that is as effective, efficient, and intuitive as VC.

Cons

Some projects took longer to build out than others. But otherwise, there really wasn't anything I didn't like.

Pros

It is easy to use but able to accomplish so much. You can dream big with Vertical Change but use it in a way that is simple and manageable.
