### "Jira: An Essential Task Management Application"

April 11, 2019

5.0

My experience with Jira has been fantastic. Overall, once a team gets used to the 'ticketing' structure, there are a lot of organizational efficiencies that can be gained. The standardization of ticketing can help teams navigate through areas of need and allocate resources from other projects if ahead of schedule. Jira works phenomenally as a tool to help manage projects both large and small. I have helped test and implement projects that have utilized Jira as the primary project management tool and believe that it is a state-of-the-art solution. Overall, I cannot recommend this service enough!

Pros

I use Jira for Project Management in my occupation. As a worker in a large enterprise, Jira does a phenomenal job of creating a fantastic user experience for both desktop and mobile. I think mobile project management is especially intuitive with this service. Where Jira stands apart from other standard project management tools is in its ability to track issues throughout an entire development lifecycle. Tickets are an essential component to keeping work organized and teams moving forward. The ability to collaborate via comments is unparalleled. Jira also offers extensive add-ons and pre-created templates for those just learning the service. When tracking projects, I never felt overly-encumbered by high learning curves or a clunky interface. Jira allowed me to work with many of the tools I am comfortable with and expand my potential.

Cons

From my experience, the largest pain-point / decision point between my team is on the issue of creating 'tickets'. While Jira is a very detail oriented application, this detail can sometimes become quite cumbersome. For example, the process of creating and resolving tickets can sometimes feel even longer than completing the task itself. Furthermore, it is difficult, if not impossible to close a ticket if you are not the creator. Therefore, project managers need to carry significant oversight as task statuses change. Therefore, tickets are very controversial but also an essential component to completing work successfully on this platform.

### "JIRA is essential for good software development but you NEED to invest in configuration"

February 25, 2021

4.0

I love JIRA because I am an organizer and I spend the time getting it right. But you need that kind of commitment for the best experience.

Pros

The powerhouse controls that allow you to configure exactly the solution you need. JIRA is unmatched in customization. For controlling workflows, getting status updates and clearly understanding what's on your plate, JIRA is amazing.

Cons

The use of JIRA without properly configuring it. Without that commitment, JIRA can be offputting and seem like a heavy mess of a system. You need to remove what you don't use, need to set everything up for individuals and you need to educate your team about how they can use the system. It's so open that it can overwhelm people without management.

### "Our Secret to Smooth Project Execution"

May 25, 2024

4.0

I’m happy with Jira. It has all the tools we need to manage projects efficiently.

Pros

It is perfect for agile teams. We use Scrum, and Jira’s tools for planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives help keep us focused and on track.

Cons

The mobile app is handy but could use more features. I find it challenging to manage detailed tasks or reports when I’m on the go.

### "JIRA Should Be Called the \*Anti\* Project Management Solution!"

July 9, 2019

2.0

Our decision to transition our project management systems fully to JIRA is one of the biggest regrets I have made for our company. In addition to the cons notes above, things that should be core features are missing or available as a 3rd party plugin, for extra $$. What's worse is that Atlassian has a plugin system with half of the plugins only available for the server version and then they don't build features that should exist in the core product because they are available elsewhere... as long as you use the server version. Run AWAY from this JIRA as fast as you can!!

Pros

If you are willing to do the work, the advanced search is useful and the user experience isn't bad except that to eliminate done tickets you have to deselect all then re-select every option except those of a done type.

Cons

Advanced search is the only useful way to reliably get information out, making getting even the smallest view of your data onerous. The core advantage of the tool - it's lack of structure - make it difficult to complete even the simplest of tasks without a ridiculous amount of effort. It's biggest failing is that everything is too flat by default. For example, I am working on a project now and the team has made duplicate tickets because the original tickets are too hard to find and are just dumped on the screen... we have sometimes used epics/stories/sub-tasks with sprints but these are truly inadequate... in today's time why should someone have to spend 20-30 hours a week grooming the backlog and writing searches when if the tool was any good it should (!!) be able generate these views automatically. We are now investigating other solutions like Wrike (absolutely no affiliation, not even sure we will switch to it) and in 10 minutes of testing we were getting views that we have been struggling to get out of JIRA for over a year. Also, you can't do something obvious like make a reminder in the future for a ticket, so you either get flooded with reminders for just about everything or you have to go outside the product to remind you to do something in JIRA. Seriously!?!

### "Great for users, hard on administrators"

March 25, 2019

4.0

Pros

I use Jira products both as a user and as an administrator. As a user, I find it very straightforward. I like how easy it is to do things like update my tasks, see the team's work, add files to items and connect between the various tools like Stride and Confluence. As an admin, there is a lot of customization I can do regarding workflow. My team has changed as we've grown and fleshed out both our development and QA process, so having that flexibility to modify the Jira workflow has been incredibly helpful. I also like the fact that Jira integrates with virtually every other major piece of software, such as Slack.

Cons

Most of my complaints with Jira software comes from the admin side. Because it has so much customization, it's often hard to know where something is or how you need to modify it in order to customize it. The documentation leaves a lot to be desired, and searching the web usually takes you to outdated documentation or a community forum post. Between the two, I usually can find what I need. Generally, the biggest gap between documentation and what I'm doing is that the UI has been updated and things moved around. The actual information is solid, but entire menu items have disappeared or been renamed. Oftentimes, I think I have found what I need and roll the dice and check this box or press that button, and it works. I've never run into anything that couldn't be immediately undone.

### "Effective Aile Development"

September 26, 2023

5.0

Jira is highly adaptable, allowing businesses to tailor it to their own project management and workflow requirements. Customization comprises the development of unique problem kinds, fields, and workflows that can be tailored to Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or classic project management approaches.

Pros

Jira has an easy-to-use interface that makes it suitable for users with varied levels of technical expertise. Jira has a large marketplace of plugins and integrations that extend its functionality and enable smooth connectivity to other software development tools and services.

Cons

While Jira has a free plan, more advanced features and scalability cost money. Jira's licensing charges are perceived as relatively pricey by certain firms, particularly those with large teams.

User Friendly

### "Carefully designed to enable the team to fully monitor all operations"

May 8, 2022

5.0

Jira enabled us to follow up the quality control processes accurately, as all stages are strictly followed according to the team's competencies, and the integration of functions allows achieving this with greater accuracy and speed.

Pros

Jira has high capabilities to communicate and integrate easily with many applications that we use to develop our capabilities to manage our products to achieve the best results required. I like the ease of creating tickets as well as lists, which simplifies us to follow up on all products and customer feedback with high efficiency. I like the ease of allocating tickets to team members so that it increases the flexibility of follow-up, and the project manager can constantly obtain reports that cover all stages of workflow and accurately describe the team’s achievement.

Cons

In general, not much negative, but the use of Jira requires extensive training by the team members so that they can use all the functions efficiently. Sometimes when dealing with a large number of tasks Jira can take time, but this is not an issue that comes up often.

### "In big development teams the custom workflow of JIRA allows you to build a solid agile process"

June 12, 2018

5.0

Scalability of our development teams was the biggest benefit, this product enabled us to grow and not lose productivity in the process. We were able to maintain good line of sight to what teams were producing and which ones were on track and which teams were off track. This invariably reduced the cost of our development, enabling us to grow faster and get product to market quicker in a highly competitive space.

Pros

JIRA gives you the essential tools to manage your development projects and comes into its own when you scale up managing larger teams and 100+ developers. User stories, epics, issue management, backlog management, task assignment, tracking charts for scrum, kanban boards etc give you the visibility you need when operating in an multi-team Agile development structure. The visibility of the state of your project(s) and workflow is the key benefit for using this software in an enterprise environment. Another key benefit is you can extend to use Atlassian's suite of products where there is great integration such as Service Desk, Confluence & Stride - although most of our teams eventually developed a preference for Slack.

Cons

JIRA can be a little complex at the outset to the uninitiated, some tasks require searching for in the menu system. Customization does have an overhead attached, for example adding attributes with logic etc. Email notifications can be overwhelming if you are attached to multiple teams, a digest option would probably be better than one email per update.

### "Jira to build analytics software"

August 12, 2022

5.0

Jira has helped us improve our traceability and communication between different teams and helped us deliver valuable software to our customers.

Pros

One of the most critical features of Jira is traceability. Even after a task is pushed to done, you can track it based on the released version. The use of swimlanes to facilitate Kanban and Scrum frameworks is straightforward and easy to follow. The integrations with Teams work smoothly and help us to keep track of the comments we make on developments in Teams as well as link to an issue in Jira.

Cons

The workflow management could be improved on the project settings as you have to remove an existing workflow to edit it, and it is sometimes tedious. Bulk edits may be slow sometimes.

### "Review about Jira."

January 19, 2023

4.0

My overall experience with Jira is good. Jira is a powerful project managing system.

Pros

This software has many useful features which are easy to use and smart looking interface. I can easily overview the progress, the report and timestamp of every task. What I like most about it is, several team members can participate in a single task and can be identified by their separate assigned responsibilities.

Cons

I found it pretty confusing at the very beginning using this software and could not understand the difference between epic and story and many thing. Once you download a new software for the first time and ready to use, you can easily run it. What I least like about this software it might not be much easy to use at the beginning.

Reason for choosing Jira

low pricing, more features

### "Great Tool for Daily Use"

September 28, 2020

4.0

I have used JIRA on a daily basis since 2016. I found the pages I live within as a Product Manager, the backlog and the board, are very easy to use and efficient for scrum teams, but have yet to see JIRA create or integrate with tools that create more visualization around roadmaps and reporting that don't require knowledge of syntax based queries and lots of manual effort to create output outside of the tool itself

Pros

Easy in ordering stories, tasks in the backlog. Easy in moving issues across a visual board. Typically onboarding new users who haven't used JIRA before can be done easily and quickly. The ability to set colors to epic is also very nice and supportive of a quick review of how many epics team is committing to for sprint planning

Cons

Lack of ability to have a visual roadmap/timeline and move epics around it. Instead of having a ppt, it would be good to have a board built for epic and product roadmaps within JIRA itself as another tab on the navigation pane or at least an integration with Miro, beautiful.ai, or Mural The settings controlled by an admin in large companies causes too many impediments for scrum teams The ability to query certain data is not intuitive for all users

Reason for choosing Jira

Had more experience in JIRA

### "One of the greatest defect tracking and project management tools in the industry"

November 29, 2021

Project and Time management in many cutomer projects

Pros

I find this software to be very versatile and useful. It has functions that make work easier when it comes to organization, planning, and meeting goals. It facilitates effective teamwork; it is simple to keep track of the activities that must be completed and the notifications of changes to any action work well. It has multiple views and is used to manage projects, so people who want to see an overview of the work can use the To-do List or simply the Roadmap, and team members who are trying to balance their daily activities can use the Dashboard to plan their workload. I like it because it easily adapts to what you want to do.

Cons

In some circumstances, receiving notifications has become difficult, preventing real-time monitoring. Although simple and adaptable, defining and organizing the sorts of work items might be difficult at first.

### "Best Tool for Tracking Project Status"

February 16, 2022

5.0

It's really the best experience while using Jira. As business trust on us by having the clear transparency on the task and also they feel good when they know their money invested on the project is not overused by the company.

Pros

Jira is the most common tool used in the IT organization and the best part of this tool is we can easily create the different sprints or total sprints which are going to be used in the project and can we can track work very easily. It provides transparency to business as well which gains more confidence for the user on the project status whether it's on track or not. Also, the features like Task completed, Ready for deployment, Ready for UAT, capturing comments on the status, Assigning tasks to others and email trigger automatically are the best features of this tool

Cons

I would say nothing to say where we can tell this is the least used or waste things in the tool. All the features provided in the tool are very useful and have some reason. Might when people start using they feel like it's difficult to use but actually it's very easy.

Pros

Jira is one of the most powerful tool for implementing agile methodologies like SCRUM. It's an enviroment where you could find calendars, organize activities, meetings, create task and goals and be in touch with all the team and their progress.

Cons

It has a lot of templates, but you should be acquinted with at least one methodologie. If you don't you will lose a little time while you're learning about the software.

### "Jira, the de facto in Agile Project Management"

November 3, 2021

5.0

Pros

Jira is as powerful as you allow it to be, you are not limited to the current sprint or even a single project on a board. With the use JQL, endless customization is possible. Since it is the de facto in project management, every development tool you can think of is able to integrate into Jira, including your IDE making it the one-stop for every step of your development process. You can also trigger the transitions on the boards for 'lazier' teams when they commit or merge a branch, meaning you dont have to chase after devs to update the board. You can also build the board to be as simple or complex as a team needs it to be. Jira adjusts to your needs, not the other way around. The sister applications to Jira are also amazing (Confluence, etc)

Cons

For repetitive tasks that have a set format, Jira, out of the box at least without pricy add-ins is not able to automatically do this. For bespoke functionality and workflows you need to be a jira expert Can become a little slow over time

### "Jira for IT Project Management and Integrated Project Teams"

December 26, 2019

5.0

I still love Jira for the flexibility, I use Jira Software to manage integrated project teams and internal IT projects and helpdesk. It is great to have basically a one stop shop for managing tasks and tickets across a variety of projects and departments. The biggest thing truly is entering in your information and that comes down to managing your teams and setting expectations on ticket information quality.

Pros

Flexibility in workflows and tracking separate projects and sub-projects in the same system. Ease of creating multiple tickets as well as placing them into different projects without having to be in the projects portal. Creating reports to review metrics is relatively easy, it was useful in an integrated project to review estimated times reported in previous sprints to project development times for other projects. The flexibility of how tickets look and editable fields as well as workflows to tailor to the team and/or project being worked on.

Cons

The bad part of Jira's flexibility is that settings are all over the place and you typically need to refer to Jira's knowledge base on how to configure custom settings whether it is for fields inside of tickets, workflow settings and automations, and many other settings. The standard Jira end user interface is not exactly user friendly and some things may not make sense depending on the team using it such as a ticket being in a closed state however the resolution state has separate "states" such as do, don't do which is more used by software development teams. Jira typically requires a lot of customization when setting up new projects either for project managers, agile software development teams, or integrated project teams. As an administrator this can be difficult to convey to my end users who want to track their projects in Jira. This is where you need to have great communication with your end users to be able to setup and tailor the Jira project to their needs and improve the overall Jira experience.
