Lead Network Design Engineer-OSP Telecommunications Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Vetro - Everything you need and nothing you don’t " September 18, 2023 5.0 I come from the HFC word where it takes at least 2 weeks to get a new user to be productive because the design applications are overly complicated. Vetro is easy to use, almost completely customizable and just keeps getting better with every enhancement released. Pros My main complement of Vetro is how easy it is to use for being such a powerful application. As the trainer for our company I can take a low experience level designer and have them up and running within a week. I can train a view access user in about an hour. Cons 2 years ago it was the maps that Vetro produced. However in working with the Vetro Support staff there have been sufficient improvements in the map making abilities that we are now able to use the Mapbook for some of our permitting and it is the only map deliverable we hand off to Construction. It is simple for new users to get up to speed quickly and the projects, plans, and layers panels make presentations interactive. Cons It is not a GIS program like QGIS or ArcGIS so I have struggled with editing data after it is inside the program. Vertices are tough to align and the snapping feature works but will allow you to snap to any segment, which has its pros and cons. The more you use Vetro, the more you know how important it is to have it. Pros I like the ease of building a fiber network, to visually see what we have and where we are going. This is such an important tool for any Internet provider that is growing in the fiber industry. Cons Cities require maps of projects that you are submitting for "drawings." Vetro does not have the capability of exporting out a nice drawing and legend for city use. There is a basic one, but doesn't really work for this. Trainings and webinars are relaxed and understandable; the speakers are "real". We've been able to onboard new employees in no time thanks to Vetro's accessibility. Cons Vetro's admin capabilities related to user tracking leave several things to be desired. Audit logs are a little too restrictive at times.
