### "An Affordable, User-Friendly Payroll and Benefits Solution for Small Businesses"

January 14, 2026

5.0

Gusto has been a fantastic find for our small business. It provides everything we need in one place, including payroll, benefits, and retirement options, at a price that makes sense for smaller teams. The platform is easy to use, integrates well with other services, and allows us to stay competitive without taking on the high costs typically associated with larger providers. Their documentation is thorough, and their support team is consistently responsive and eager to help. Overall, Gusto has streamlined our operations and made managing payroll and benefits far less stressful.

Pros

Gusto offers affordable pricing for payroll, healthcare benefits, and 401(k) options, making it a strong value for small businesses. The all-in-one platform helps reduce administrative overhead and integrates smoothly with a wide range of third-party providers. Its intuitive, easy-to-navigate interface makes payroll and benefits management straightforward, even for small teams without dedicated HR staff. In addition, Gusto provides extensive help documentation and a responsive, knowledgeable support team that is genuinely eager to help.

Cons

While Gusto meets the needs of most small businesses, some advanced features may be more limited compared to larger enterprise-level providers. Availability of certain benefits and integrations can also vary depending on location.

Best payroll platform I've ever used especially for the price. That said we have a straightforward org chart, benefits offerings and compensation. If you have complex structure then you may be better served by a more traditional provider.

Pros

Ease of implementation. Simple user interface both on admin and EE side. I would caution the implementation support is a bit sparce however if you prepare on your end from your prior platform its a breeze.

Cons

The only thing I'm not a fan of is the lack of robustness on adjusting benefits as an admin. Everything has to go through their support. So just be sure that every payrun or onboarding is 100% accurate.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Gusto

Prior to inheriting Paycom when I started here years ago I was a huge Paylocity advocate and user. Considered them and then found Gusto when searching online. Have not gone back.

Switched from

[Paycom](https://www.capterra.com/p/130949/Paycom/)

Paycom customer support was not impressive - there was an outstanding tax issue that was caused by the system and did not get reconciled for over six months of back and forth. This was the final straw for the switch.

### "Gusto-not so great"

January 24, 2026

3.0

It was just okay. I did not appreciate their lack of ability to help me when I needed it most. Decided to go with a different company

Pros

Could reach a live person relatively quickly which is very unusual these days. Sometimes there were delays...

Cons

Could not get them to resolve my issue in a timely manner..I really needed them to help me due to a deadline of running payroll and instead they suspended my account!!!!

### "Gusto, well worth the price"

February 24, 2026

5.0

While more expensive than our previous payroll provider, the amount of time saved from using Gusto is well worth it. With mass importing of timesheet data along with automatic tax form filing, I dont need to spend a ton of time actually doing the payroll but more reviewing it.

Pros

Simple interface, excellent integration with our payroll provider, many customized reports to understand how payroll dollars are being spent, both federal and state tax docs filed on our behalf.

Cons

Too many a la carte fees which many should be included in the base fee. As an example, there is a fee to have a two-day window for direct deposit, the base rate includes a four-day window which is one day after payroll ends, not nearly enough time to turn around payroll.

### "Happy with their services. "

February 12, 2026

Switching from another payroll was seamless and processing payroll is easy and affordable. I would reccomend.

Pros

It's easy to sign up and you don't get billed until you run your first payroll. They will walk you through it and all you really need is your previous layroll reports to find all the info.

Cons

Their customer service after signing up could be improived. You shouldn't have to pay additional for "better" customer service.

### "Gusto makes payroll so easy!"

October 29, 2025

Gusto has been a wonderful addition to our school's Procare account, and has enabled me to spend my time talking to people instead of crunching numbers!

Pros

It is super easy to add new employees, to make any changes needed to an existing employee, and to run payroll on our schedule! The integration with Procare makes it a seamless process.

Cons

I can't really think of anything that is missing... they seem to cover all of the bases from taxes to onboarding help!

### "Helps me run my business with convenience "

October 15, 2025

5.0

Overall it’s been good. I’ve preferred the easy of the system and the cost is much better than other services I’ve used.

Pros

Gusto is very easy to use and the cost is reasonable compared to other services. Payroll is always on time. I’ve really been impressed with their add on services (the HR service helped me write my employee handbook, there is an add subscription for labor law posters to keep us in compliance, and I’m looking into 401k).

Cons

It’s a little less one-on-one that services I’ve used before. Which I generally don’t need. But I had a complicated problem (that was partly my fault) and it was very difficult to find someone who understood what was going on.

### "Go Go Gusto!"

March 5, 2026

5.0

My overall experience with Gusto has been excellent. I've utilized many payroll & benefits platforms in my career, and Gusto is by far the best.

Pros

I like that it is very user-friendly, especially for someone in my role as a Payroll and Benefits Specialist. Their customer support team is also outstanding.

Cons

Off the top of my head, I honestly cannot think of anything I dislike about Gusto. Sometimes, though, it does spin for quite some time, and I will have to refresh the page.

### "Gusto in a nutshell"

November 3, 2025

4.0

Gusto offers excellent value for small to mid-sized businesses with transparent pricing and well-integrated payroll, time tracking, and performance tools. It’s user-friendly, easy to maintain, and backed by responsive customer support, though asset and work order management rely on external integrations.

Pros

I love how Gusto simplifies payroll and compliance, it automatically calculates taxes, files reports, and ensures everything stays up to date with the latest regulations. The employee self-service portal is also a huge plus, allowing staff to access paystubs, W-2s, and benefits easily.

Cons

It would be great if Gusto offered more robust reporting options for performance and proper tracking for attendance.

As an employee it was a smooth and easy transition from gusto from paychex. No noticable issue as of yet

### "Gusto Works as promised"

So far everything works as expected with Gusto. I'm happy with the service.

Pros

### "Perfect for the Payroll-Challenged"

March 10, 2025

4.0

It's been an overall good experience saving me hours of time and giving me the confidence that our employees are being paid and taxes are being withheld and paid properly

Pros

It integrates with Procare and is easy to submit payroll

Cons

If I run an off-cycle payroll, or do it more than once a month, it doesn't track hours properly, meaning I have to calculate the hours myself. It also doesn't track the employees weekly hours since we pay once a month, which causes issues with overtime. It's not perfect

### "Gusto has all the features and then some!!"

July 4, 2024

5.0

Gusto is by far the most feature-packed HR software I have ever used as an employee. It seamlessly integrates everything into very easy-to-use and follow processes. When I was hired, I received a welcome letter from my employer within minutes and was able to fill out all my new hire paperwork. It guided me through the entire onboarding process, including signing my offer letter, completing a background check, filling out tax forms, setting up direct deposit, and selecting my benefits. Having used other HR software in the past, I found Gusto to be easier and more efficient. Its definitely worth it in my opinion!!

Pros

Gusto offers several features that I haven't seen in other similar software programs I've used in the past. There are ample benefits options that I found really appealing, such as commuter benefits, medical, dental, vision, flexible spending, wellness, insurance, and retirement. I also had the ability to save portions of each paycheck to contribute to better financial wellness and could add some to a college fund, which the company would match, as well as to charitable giving. It's easy to set up on your phone and has a very simple user interface. It's definitely not too overwhelming. The app allows you to easily view your time off and paychecks, and it notifies you whenever you get paid as well.

Cons

The one thing I would change is the mobile app. I feel it was too simple with too few options. I would have liked more functionality.

Gusto was problem solver as it relates to payroll and tax reporting. Before using Gusto, i was unclear on how my small business would solve payroll concerns. There was a bit of a learning curve, but I have the hang of it.

Cons

Pros

The ease of use for clocking in and out, and checking my employees times.

### "Gusto has helped our small business stay organized."

January 4, 2024

5.0

Wonderful app all your employer and employee needs in one. Being able to utilize the download of paperwork versus printing is a gamechanger as well. We are all tryin to save the planet!

Pros

The welcome package is such a great tool. When starting up a business helping others feel welcome and creating a great step by step employment item is a great asset.

Cons

On a few occasions the app did not forward to my new hires an I9 form. I then requested assistance from the app and they didnt have an easy link to send from the documents page. I had to have the employee do it in person. I also had a lot of the staff unaware of how to upload documents on the app. If there was a help video to assist in some of the items on the app I think it would help lots of people that are not very app savvy.

Overall, QuickBooks Time is an excellent tool for managing and tracking employee's working hours. It is user-friendly, efficient and customizable.

Pros

Additionally, the user can customize the software to fit their business needs, making it a great asset to organizations of any size.

### "Great payroll software!"

January 17, 2023

5.0

We save so much time by using Gusto for payroll! Super easy to use. They take feedback and implement it quickly. Would recommend to everyone!

Pros

Gusto made payroll for my company as easy as a few clicks. It integrates with many scheduling softwares and syncs with one click. Next day direct deposits, handles all the taxes, and reports can be customized however you like them!

Cons

During tax time, the customer service response time is longer. Email answers take much longer, but their chat feature is generally helpful when they know the answer.

### "Using Gusto with lots of…well…Gusto."

January 9, 2023

5.0

My overall experience as a Contractor, has been very positive with Gusto. The company I worked with, they switched to Gusto because the previous software they used, the subscription price to my understanding...was increasing. The company needed a software that was within their budget and could still fulfill payment processing on-time. Gusto always delivered our payments on-time and kept detailed records which helps when filing taxes.

Pros

I use Gusto as an independent contractor. The company I contract for, uses Gusto to process payments for all of their independent contractors, as well as handling onboarding agreements and forms for tax purposes. From a user-interface perspective, I like how easy the side-navigation bar is. Everything is very concise and understandable as far as what you'll find when clicking on each link. I think what I like the most is that the Payments page is the first thing you see and it loads very quickly all of your paycheck history. I remember that when using Stoke this was not the case.

Cons

I will honestly say that there wasn't much to dislike about Gusto. It solved a lot of problems for the company that I was contracting for, and we seemed to get paid very quickly which always makes a contractor/freelancer happy.
