With the arrival of AI, zero-days are more and more common. Threatlocker provides a zero trust solution that makes the system it protects bulletproof. Cons It can take a while to get end users to understand the value of this product since applications need to be pre-approved by the IT that manages it. Then you have to spend hours training on a product that is under developed. You can't remotely uninstall it from the portal directly. Have to download an .EXE to run a script and that only works 30% of the time. I'd go back a year, I'd never pull that 36 month waste of $. Pros Zero Application Trust is OK, but takes a great deal of Man power to run it and manage it and if a customer can update any of their programs with out manual approval, they will start to get pissed and ask you to remove it. I would never had purchased all their modules / complete waste of MSP $ Cons Takes Way to much time out of the day to manage it. Customers get upset since every update for ever app / get's blocked. There is ZERO AI built in and needs 100% manual intervention for everything and all the other Modules are junk. I have had 5 customers compromised in M365 - Threatlocker never detected. I also like being able to see and manage application activity centrally, which makes it easier to understand what is happening across the environment. Cons The main drawback is that the initial setup and policy configuration can take some time, especially when you’re getting used to how applications and permissions are managed. There can also be occasions where legitimate software needs additional attention before it works as expected. Once the policies are properly tuned, though, the day-to-day experience is much smoother. Pros ThreatLocker pushes notifications to my Apple watch and I never expected that to even be possible with Enterprise Software generally being trash. The ability to see what devices are being used is ok I guess. I mostly use it for the VPN functionality. It is easy to use and customer support is good. Cons This takes way too long. The push notification will sometimes arrive late. If you don't have the mobile app installed, then the Microsoft RD Web connection is basically unsupported, Good Luck. Our endpoints are running with healthy malware drag and we have fewer complaints from everyone in the watercooler. It's providing us a perfectly clear view into what our devices are doing 100% of the time, which is now million times easier than was before and we can instantly act on that data after doing a search instead of waiting an hour for it all to roll in. Pros Honestly, CrowdStrike Falcon really does work, which is a miracle. The agent is extremely lightweight, so you don’t even realize it is there, unlike the Trellix product we used in the past, which would completely bog down our systems. Thank God. Real time detection is the big draw here, it caught a suspicious PowerShell script running on an endpoint and we were able to see the full nasty timeline in real time. You have that one lightweight agent (which is a great thing) so you do not have a bunch of disjointed pieces to deal with and the fact that it is cloud based means your responses will be that much faster. Cons The management dashboard is a complete disaster, it is far too complex and I truly believe that new users will think they are reading a foreign language. How often do the marketplace apps for vendor integrations go out of date at exactly the moment you need them? February 14, 2025 5.0 I've been using ThreatLocker for about four years now within our primary security stack, and it has been rock solid. We primarily use their Application Control function, but we have also demoed their EDR solution, which is incredibly strong and significantly lighter weight than other EDRs on the market. The Application Control portion has been amazing, provided you put in the effort to tune the software for the tools you use. Their engineers are great to work with, and I haven't had a bad experience with them to date. \[sensitive content hidden\] (engineer) and \[sensitive content hidden\] (Account Rep) have been fantastic at keeping us updated on what's coming and assisting with any issues that arise. The tool is incredibly stable on our endpoints, and we've only seen minor breaks on devices with crazy high uptimes. We manage over 7,700 endpoints, all containing ThreatLocker Application Control. We couldn't recommend this tool enough if you want to keep your endpoints safe. It has single-handedly saved customers from potential compromise due to the way it allows and denies applications. Pros The Vendor Support has been Fantastic! Their Application Control and Elevation Control has been a great addition to DiD Security Stack! The ability to overwrite Microsoft Windows default UAC with ThreatLocker and give end users more control over apps that are approved to run is a huge help for those tools that require Admin writes just to function. Cons The ability to control the Tray settings and the ability to add customer popups to the Request Access popup is my least favorite part of the tool. It's pretty limited and doesn't allow much ability to customization options. If it is not on the "allow" list, it will block it. November 13, 2024 5.0 Threatlocker has been a fantastic addition to our defense-in-depth strategy for our clients and we are very happy with the tool. The onboarding process painless with the help of the Threatlocker's learning mode and the Threatlocker team, you'll have a pretty solid baseline application whitelist within a couple weeks. The onboarding/success team are very thorough and attentive, and they meet with you as often as you need them to, and they continue meeting with you regularly to make sure everything is going well. They truly care about your use of their tool and they want to make sure you're using it in the most secure way. Their on-demand support is top notch as well with quick response to live chat and their willingness to hop on video call to assist with whatever is needed. Their support from implementation to troubleshooting has been knowledgeable and responsive. Pros Application whitelisting was fairly effortless for the vast majority of our implementation. Threatlocker was able to learn all of our applications automatically and can handle updates to these applications without our intervention. When custom rules are required the UI guides you through the process. The UI also does a good job of alerting administrators if you create any policies that are not secure or too broad in scope. Network control provides and easy interface to implement network micro segmentation. The audit tools make determining what needs to talk on each port between hosts simple. ThreatLocker Administrator Password System in configuration manager allowed us to retire our Microsoft Local Administrator Password Solution. Setup took less 5 minutes and involved no complicated GPO's or additional programs. Support is instant and knowledgeable. There is very little if any wait to talk to someone for help anytime of day via chat. Cons The Network control portion is prone to hiccups when using threatlocker specific objects and switching networks. Pros The number one thing about Threatlocker is the Cyber Heros. We use a ton of software in our company and no one else does support like them. We have been meeting with an Engineer ever few months as we deploy our new clients and he is a rock star. The product is awesome, it blocks every single thing you do already have a policy for, which for any Zero day or net new attacks, its amazing. Cons The only thing i can even think about here is that it does take a bit of time to really know the program, feel comfortable to do it on your own. Pros The software is incredible, but what is better is the customer support. From the moment you pop a message in to the live chat, you will be speaking to someone within 30 seconds, and can even hop in a Zoom call if that is better for the issue at hand. Phenomenal. Cons The wording of some of the features could be reworked / explained better. For example removing the protection from a device isn't just a case of highlighting the asset and pressing "delete" or "disable protection". Neither of these features actually remove the protection. Most of my questions have been answered through the university or the help page. Both are fantastic tools. That being said, if I can't find what I need, I message the Cyber Heroes, they respond almost instantly. They're very polite, knowledgeable and follow the problem through until you're happy to close the ticket. It's nice to know that if you're stuck or unsure, someone has your back. Cons I find that sometimes ThreatLocker doesn’t always elevate an application when it has been set on approval. This is an intermittent issue that I need to raise with the TreatLocker team when it happens again. I am sure it is an easy fix and I know the Cyber Heroes will be happy to look into. From the Ring Fencing to Allow Listing to Elevation control, it keeps users from doing things they shouldn't be while allowing what you need to run, run. I sleep at night knowing that some random software can't run on a client environment and cause an incident. Cons Threatlocker is not a set it and forget it product. They can however use their internal CyberHero's to make it easier for you. It's just an extra cost. It will stop the unknown software, and provide ring-fencing to make sure good software doesn't act across the network in ways it should not. I could not be happier with ThreatLocker. Pros ThreatLocker does what it promises. It catalogs and manages your known software while blocking unknown software from running. It also assists with elevation and network ringfencing. Together, these provide a great level of protection for the environment in case you do get breached. Cons It is not a set and forget, it takes active management. The time taken is reasonable, it just needs to be factored in. I probably spend 2 hours/week on managing ThreatLocker across nearly 400 endpoints.
