### "The easiest way to spin up Apache and MySQL servers on MacOS"

January 16, 2025

5.0

As a web developer I have found MAMP to be the most convenient way to setup a local server for testing purposes. I use it mostly for Wordpress and other projects which require MySQL databases.

Pros

I like how easy it is to setup MAMP. You just install it and with one click you can spin up Apache and MySQL.

Cons

MAMP is great but only for basic setups. If your project requires advanced configuration you may find yourself stuck.

Because I did face some difficulties with the XAMPP installation on macOS.

### "Stack of servers for web development"

August 11, 2023

5.0

MAMP is super solution if someone need simple Installation of web servers without any knowledge. Provides all components to run large scale of web applications.

Pros

MAMP contains stack for running web applications. You can easily set up and run Apache server or database. Database management tool is also included. You just need one click interaction to run any server. All logs are collected into stack logging tool, so in case of any errors you cant find them in one place collected. Configuration wizard allows you to install everything without any server administration experiences.

Cons

I don't find any problems in running MAMP.

### "A decent option for local development"

November 22, 2022

3.0

Overall, it was a frustrating experience. The UI is dated, poorly laid out and the app is resource intensive. Updating PHP or running multiple versions of PHP (diff versions per site) is difficult at best. In the beginning the one of the app updates wiped out htdocs folder - eg ALL of our sites in dev! Luckily we had a backup, but a warning would have been nice as most apps that install updates DO NOT wipe client data from user folders.

Pros

MAMP by itself is a simple, local server environment that handles all the heavy lifting behind the scenes - it installs and configs PHP, MySQL and Apache.MAMP Pro is a full featured local development solution. It provides granular control of Apache, PHP and MYSQL as well as virtual hosts, local site environments, etc.

Cons

The UI is clunky, intuitive and looks like it was designed for the G4 mac.Although it has a robust set of features, accessing those features typically includes looking up their docs to find where it is, why it's not working, etc. The basic version of MAMP doesn't include virtual hosting or remote links.

Reason for choosing MAMP

In the end we found that Local by WP was a better solution for us on all accounts. It was easier to setup new sites, faster to config diff environments for those sites, simple to create a template (called a Blueprint site) that we could quickly duplicate and launch. Virtual hosting - eg creating your own URLs for the dev site - is baked in and there are tons of other reasons... better UI, etc.

### "It offers the best way to have a LAMP stack and so much more"

May 4, 2022

4.0

Pros

I have been a user since 2014 and this software has made huge leaps forward. It allows you to manage multiple sites at the same time and above all to configure each individual host independently, such as the versions of PHP for each host. From a few releases to today it continues to integrate new services such as Redis and Memcached which are useful for more complex environments.

Cons

Sometimes it is not clear why some service fails to start, but a restart is enough and everything works.

### "Essential for local web development"

April 7, 2021

4.0

As a web developer, my workflow consists of building sites locally, then deploying to a testing server. MAMP enables me to get my local environment up and running in an easy to use package. I have used MAMP for many years, and have no reason to change.

Pros

It's free for the basic version, it's relatively easy to set up, and a simple Apache and MySQL server setup can be achieved in minutes. Virtual hosts can be set up if you're willing to make them work.

Cons

Upgrading can be a bit of a chore. Sometimes it can be hard to track down conflicts with previous versions or other servers that may be running locally.

### "MAMP is a great tool to build websites locally"

June 20, 2021

5.0

As a frontend developer, MAMP made it really simple to get server technologies running on my local computer so that I could build websites.

Pros

MAMP provides a superb GUI for managing PHP-based servers on your Mac computer. You can quickly switch between PHP versions for easy testing of software, and the logs provide the expected level of feedback to debug your applications. You don't ever have to get your hands dirty with the command-line, and you can administer everything through their interface.

Cons

It can feel a bit cumbersome to use, and as someone who prefers a command-line interface, the GUI can seem a bit unnecessary and restrictive.

### "Very Basic Features are included only. "

November 23, 2021

3.0

MAMP is easy to use and the dashboard is very simple although we are not given any options to edit the server configuration easily but there is a good chance you'll not need to edit those settings unless you are doing heavy stuff and needs to update it. Although there are also other easy options available like Loacl by Flywheel especially if you wanted to run WordPress websites but Xampp is also better than MAMP

Pros

MAMP was easy to use and it was easy to deploy website and overall it is beginner friendly. The dashboard was very easy to use and have all the needed components to run your local server/website as fast as possible.

Cons

There was no option to set custom domain names, test emails and a beginner cannot edit the php settings or any server configuration because there is no easy way to do it in MAMP. You'll have to manually go through the files to edit the configuration of your server. After installing there were also no tutorial on the start page about how to get started with MAMP.

### "One of the best programs for local development an a Mac"

December 6, 2019

4.0

Overall, MAMP Pro has been a great asset for my freelance business and I enjoy using it.

Pros

My favorite part about MAMP Pro is it's ability to handle any type of programming language for local development, whether you are creating a simple php website or a more complex ecommerce site. I can handle it all. I also create a lot of Wordpress sites and MAMP Pro makes it that much easier with the one-click WordPress install feature.

Cons

The price is probably my least favorite thing about MAMP Pro. There are a decent amount of open source software that I could probably use to replace MAMP Pro with at no cost, but having it all in one is nice.

### "Perfecto para crear proyectos web en Mac"

October 9, 2022

5.0
