### "Best knowledgebase/documentation tool for small teams"

January 17, 2020

4.0

Overall the experience was good and because of that we were able to add more content to our documentation. Before Gitbook our documentation was limited and very hard to find.

Pros

It is really easy to get started with and best part is that it supports Markdown. Writing documentation in Markdown is way easier and Gitbook makes it easy to organise the content. They support custom domains which is another nice thing about the product, it is really good for branding.

Cons

There are no cons as such but there were few issues while getting started, while importing the existing documentation for the first time.

### "GitBook is an amazing tool for us and our students at Polytechnique Montréal."

September 15, 2025

5.0

Very useful. Well integrated with GitHub. No-code tool. Takes less than a day to set up and start sharing educational content.

Pros

Ease of use, ease of implementation. I use it every day as a teacher and share labs with my students through GitBook, and they love it much more than receiving lab tutorials as Word documents.

Cons

I think that when you set up your organization, the wizard should show you the kind of default URL it will generate, so you can get an idea of how your subdomain will look.

Reason for choosing GitBook

Weak integration with GitHub and GitHub Codespaces.

### "GitBook Price Gouging | Use Alternatives Instead"

May 9, 2025

1.0

I use GitBook for multiple websites and was initially drawn to the platform because of its clean interface and the ability to use custom domains on the free plan. Unfortunately, GitBook has recently implemented a drastic pricing shift that denies you access to updates to your site, unless you upgrade to a paid plan that costs over $70/month per website. This change feels like a significant price gouge, especially for users who previously relied on features that were free. It's disappointing to see a platform that once supported smaller teams and independent creators now gatekeeping basic functionality behind an enterprise-level paywall. I'll be moving my documentation elsewhere and won't be returning. If you're considering GitBook, be aware that what’s free today may not be tomorrow.

Pros

The ability to use custom domains for my documentation website. This feature has since been removed and put behind a enterprise-level paywall.

### "An Outstanding Platform for Clear, Professional, and Accessible Learning Resources"

October 7, 2025

5.0

My overall experience with GitBook has been outstanding. As a computer science teacher working across several institutions, I needed a reliable platform to create structured, high-quality learning resources for my students. GitBook exceeded my expectations by allowing me to transform class materials into well-organized, professional study guides. It’s a perfect fit for both teaching and sharing technical knowledge.

Pros

GitBook offers an incredibly clean and intuitive interface that makes organizing and structuring content effortless. The real-time collaboration and the Markdown support are fantastic for educators and technical authors alike. I especially value how professional the final output looks — it feels like publishing a high-quality book or documentation site with very little setup effort.

Cons

Honestly, there is very little to dislike. Perhaps some additional advanced customization options for design and layout could be useful, but this is a minor detail compared to the overall great experience.

### "An intuitive and powerful tool for collaborative documentation"

September 11, 2025

5.0

GitBook has transformed the way we manage and share documentation across our international non-profit organization. It enables us to work more efficiently, reduces duplication of effort, and ensures that volunteers and partners can easily access up-to-date information. Overall, it has become an essential tool for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Pros

The platform is very intuitive and easy to use, even for people without a technical background. It makes collaboration seamless and allows us to keep all our resources structured, accessible, and professional-looking.

Cons

Customization options for layout and design are somewhat limited. More flexibility here would make it perfect.

### "A+ for automation and versioning "

October 25, 2025

5.0

Pros

We were recently granted a non-profit license for our organization. One of the most significant benefits GitBook provided was the organization of scattered documents and workflows across disparate systems and traditional file structures. The seamless automation using Git and the beautiful templates that give a professional look were the cherry on top.

Cons

The website especially the backend feels a little clunky and slow at times. I believe a good chunk of resources must be used to make it as quick as possible.

### "Great for basic documentation of a product"

April 3, 2025

5.0

It was great. Learning curve is simple, and easy to manage documentation. Built-in site analytics are also a relief.

Pros

Easy to create and handle technical documentation

Cons

Quite expensive pro trial, based on published sites/month. I'd rather pay for everything per month, not per site.

### "Professional documentation in a simple way"

July 8, 2021

5.0

I use GitBook for one of my projects in which a lot of non-developer people participate. They are happy because it is simple and they can access a lot of information, I am happy because people can consult information without having to send emails with repetitive questions.

Pros

Gitbook offers the possibility to have an online wiki in an organized and easy way. You don't need to be related to the technical world to know how to use this tool since it has a very intuitive interface. You can create folders, categories, upload files, share a page in a public way, etc. It is a very complete tool.

Cons

I have not found anything negative. The tool delivers everything it promises.

### "Super tolles Tool für Dokumentationen"

November 16, 2022

5.0

Echt tolles Tool.

### "Great place to setup docs"

November 6, 2021

5.0

Use this for documentation sharing, and "manual" creation.

Pros

The markdown is done well so it's really easy to port over existing md files into gitbook and have it organized for readers. Setting up a custom domain is easy too.

Cons

gitbook does what it promises and there isn't too much extra to it. For bigger teams it seems they charge a bit much for what they do, but for small teams it is great.

### "Great option for hosted product documentation"

July 27, 2021

5.0

Having a central location for managing docs is great and it is very easy to keep the docs up to date.

Pros

The ability to have multiple drafts that can be reviewed and merged is great. The editor is really simple and offers a structured layout for text and images with simple navigation. No web design or html editing skills are needed to produce professional looking docs.

Cons

It would be nice to have versioning so custom versions of the docs could be linked from a version of my product so only relevant info is shown to customers on older releases.

Reason for choosing GitBook

Gitbook is a hosted product so I dont need to worry about installation and maintenance.
