IT Specialist Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Great tool to monitor your SSL certificates" February 1, 2020 5.0 Pros I've started using KeyChest years ago to keep track of my SSL certificates on my server. KeyChest is easy to setup and maintain and will inform you quickly if any certificates are expired or expiring soon. It also automatically detects any SAN domains you might have and adds them to the tracking. Only reason I'm not actively using KeyChest anymore is because my monitoring software offers the same functionality. They offer a great API and the best feature: It's free for many use cases. This software makes it easy for us to track cert expiration, domain expiration and also flag unexpected server errors. Consultant Computer Software Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Nice idea, but unreliable" January 26, 2020 2.0 Overall, KeyChest has not lived up to expectations. The goal was to coordinate renewal requirements into one dashboard, and provide extra visibility into failures to renew LetsEncrypt certs. In practice KeyChest has not been reliable enough to achieve this goal. Additionally, KeyChest suffered a significant data loss issue with insufficient backup to recover properly, which further damaged my confidence in the service. Pros Email notifications when certificates were due to expire. Cons Very unreliable at tracking certificate expiry - expiry warnings for certificates I had already replaced, and no expiry warning for a certificate due for renewal, have both been common problems. KeyChest has started as a pet project back in 2017 and the data loss in December 2017 (our announcement after the incident - https://community.letsencrypt.org/t/if-you-use-keychest-major-incident-made-us-realize-how-it-grew/47448) was the point when we decided to turn it into a serious service. We have re-designed the service in 2018 and made significant progress during 2019 to improve the reliability and accuracy that had suffered from an unreliable hosting provider (Jan-Mar 2019) as well as the initial simplistic implementation of KeyChest audits. Performed as expected with tracking ssl expirations. Cons It was great as a free platform in the beginning, but still a great value for cost.
