### "A good tool for team communication "

July 26, 2021

5.0

Overall, Zulip is a great tool for communication. Team members can stay in the loop of relevant information and not be overwhelmed by information that is irrelevant to their tasks and work. Plus, being free and Open source is another great benefit

Pros

Zulip is free and opensource and works on all platforms (windows, mac, linux, android and ios). It offers all standard chat methods needed for team communication. Communication can be organized through streams and topics and team members can be subsrcibe to these topics and stay in the loop with relevant information. The software is free to use, and you can even host it in your own servers for flexibility. Additional integration is also possible and includes a lot of popular services such as GitHub, Heroku, Zendesk and more. There is a paid plan which is cheap and offers additional features like company branding and 10GB storage per user. Communication can work smoothly as you can stay informed about topics relevant to you and ignore the rest, which can be a lot of messages when you are working in a diverse team.

Cons

Overall, there was nothing that was lacking in particular. There are no features like video calling or calendars built in, which might be possible to add via integration but was not tested personally. But Zulip gets the job done if you are only looking for a chat client to communicate in an organized manner.

### "Good enough for 90% of the world"

Pros

It's simple, it's streamlined, the UI is very mild and pleasant. Bot integration is easy to do and very varied in what it CAN do

Cons

Phone app needs a complete rewrite, if you can send me a notification that i got a message but spend 2 minutes loading said message, you need to step back and think again

### "Best for structured team communication"

March 10, 2023

5.0

Team communication while working on several projects.

Pros

The division into streams and then subdivision into topics is very natural.

Cons

Really nothing to dislike - it is perfect for what I use it.

Reason for choosing Zulip

After trying several, Zulip was just simply the most natural to use. Especially for sharing information that has to be accessible for a long time and not only by search.

### "Great tool for our workgroup, enabling collaboration with partners abroad"

March 9, 2023

5.0

As a small research group (though part of a large publically funded university), most commercial offerings are not affordable to us. Zulip makes it possible to store information for years, easily search for it. The ability to write mathematical equations is a huge bonus in our line of work

Pros

This is a no frills product, where eye candy doesn't impede functionality.

Cons

At least in the standalone application, clicking on attachments silently downloads them without visual feedback that the download was successful and/or opening of the file. Once one gets used to this, it's fine, but it caused a few confusing moments.

### "Best Collaboration Platform for WFH Situation"

February 11, 2022

5.0

Being in a WHF scenario, collaborating and communicating with the team is extremely essential. I used Zulip as a part of the organization's team where we were able to communicate easily. Also, discussing code and syntax highlighting was extremely easy. Zulip proved to be the best remote platform that has keep our team on the same page when it comes to getting instant notifications/updates.

Pros

I like the simple and intuitive messaging interface which keeps me get updated on the latest communication. Configuring notifications as per the convenience is also amazing so that I can get messages instantly. Even the mobile app is extremely smooth and easy to use.

Cons

Integrating Zulip with GitHub was quite a challenge. Users will be happy if the Zulip team can publish more information on how to configure Zulip with GitHub.

### "Zulip - Great app for remote work."

February 9, 2022

5.0

Pros

I really love the main feature of Zulip, which sets it apart from other apps i.e., the thread system. Each stream(similar to Discord 'channel') has a thread for each topic of conversation, so there can be different conversations happening in the same stream simultaneously. I think it saves a lot of headache.

Cons

It's not very easy on the eye when you look at it for the first time, and it looks really confusing. Design is also not pretty great (but it's WIP).

### "Focused Collaboration"

March 13, 2023

5.0

Zulip really beats software products like Slack, Teams, and Discord, in my opinion. It keeps you focused on the discussions at hand and the necessary information doesn't get lost in the sea of noise that real-time chat clients tend to produce.

Pros

Zulip allows you to collaborate using a near-mailing list experience without it feeling archaic. It differs from other tools like Slack or Discourse by having a good model of separation by topic. Conversations are kept on topic which provides focus and your messages don't get lost in the noise. It makes it easy to split off tangential conversations by easily moving messages to a dedicated topic. When a topic is resolved --- for example, if you're talking about a bug in your code --- then you can mark it as resolved. If you just need to chat to one person in the Zulip team, then you can direct message them.It also has a read-only mode, so a sign-up is not necessary for others just trying to find information in our Zulip.

Cons

The UI can feel a bit clunky, but at the same time that's part of it's charm. It's simple and keeps you focused on the topic at hand.

### "Effective and inexpensive tool for research groups, but poor on user interface"

I like it, I will keep using it, hoping that the developer improves on the interface

Cons

### "very decent chat app"

July 21, 2023

5.0

We have moved to Zulip as an alternative to mailing list and mass emailing, so far it seems to work very well, we can have separate channels for different groups and targeted posts, and people can join a stream if they want and keep an eye on postings without the constant barrage of emails.

Pros

Separate streams and privacy options, very easy to add users, quite easy to set up

Cons

the interface looks a bit old fashioned, but other than that, very solid product

### "Extremelly useful and portable"

March 9, 2023

5.0

I was using a free plan from slack, that is also an excellent tool. But the rules changed and zilip, besides offering me the possibility to import my chats from slack, it has some advantages over slack that are really very useful.

Pros

Zulip successfully implements many features (over other tools), such as search and topic segregation which, in my opinion, are essential to have an organized discussion. Also, you don't have to throw your data away if you need to change your zulip provider or even if you need to switch to another tool. For example, I was able to import my data from slack and it worked very well. In the future, I can install zulip on my personal server and keep the code running by my own means.

Cons

It's not very pretty and some features (like replies to posts) are easily used by programmers, but are not so smooth for the layman. Not being used by many people is its main con because people generally reject changing from one tool to another, enen if the other shows itself better.

### "Feature pack"

April 5, 2023

Good for small and medium teams.

Pros

This is really helpful tool for communication, file sharing and conversation. We're using it for internal communication for multiple projects and sharing lot of stuff with each other and in multiple formats and links. It is very cost effective and full of features.

Cons

UI for mobile application needs lot of improvements and search engine needs to be redesigned. But as an open source project it is awesome.

### "Zulip is delightful"

Pros
