The Zulip team provided us with a free account which enables us to do this as we have no financial means for other tools. This being said; of the various tools I know Zulip easily beats the competition (notably Slack with which I also have to work). Pros We used Zulip intensively for communication during an (academic) hackathon, which worked perfectly. The fine grained options for organising (in streams and topics) makes it easier to follow important discussions (it is easy to get lost in Slack, Zulip works much better in this respect). Also very user friendly interface. Cons No, we had a good experience and most users had no problems. Reason for choosing Zulip Better organisation of discussions (in streams and topics) than Slack. Pros Most flexibility in managing and editing posts. The ability to manage threads (Topics) and move messages between Streams is unmatched by competitors. Cons Mobile doesn't have all features. Thank you Zulip! Pros We love the topic based conversations! We also use Slack internally, which is great because we are used to it. But Zulip is better for our the community we are building for an open-source project. Cons Haven't found anything I don't like (yet)! Reason for choosing Zulip We felt that it was nicer to use than Discord, and more appropriate for open-source communities than Slack. Pros There is a thing called topics in zulip, which I never saw in any other communication software, it makes almost all work easy like doing some remote work, team communication, finding chat about the topic discussed in past, etc... Reason for choosing Zulip For having an open source base Switched from [Mattermost](https://www.capterra.com/p/170524/Mattermost/) LDAP integration missing in the open source version.
