"One of the worst platforms I’ve used, save your money."

**Overall:** I’ve given Synthesia.io multiple chances, and the experience has been nothing but frustrating. Their content moderation is inconsistent, subjective, and completely lacking in transparency. I had videos approved, only to have nearly identical versions later flagged without explanation. When I reached out, I received vague responses that provided no real clarity on what was wrong. The technology itself is extremely limited. Small edits... like swapping an avatar for a picture or correcting pronunciation... cause unnecessary issues and delays. For a platform that markets itself as cutting-edge AI video generation, it feels outdated and unreliable. What’s worse is the customer support. Instead of offering real solutions, they hide behind policy links and warnings. It feels more like dealing with an automated system than a team that values paying customers. At this point, I’ve wasted far too much time and energy. If you’re considering this service, don’t. There are better, more transparent, and more reliable platforms out there. Synthesia.io is simply not worth it.

**Pros:** Their stock avatars are high quality and visually impressive, but the policies around how they can be used are unnecessarily restrictive and highly subjective. Instead of empowering creators, the rules feel arbitrary, making it difficult to confidently use the very tools that are supposed to be the platform’s main strength. What should be a feature that adds value ends up creating hesitation and frustration, since approval seems more dependent on interpretation than on clear, consistent standards.

**Cons:** Synthesia.io enforces policies that feel entirely subjective and inconsistent. Videos that are approved one day can be flagged the next, even when only minor, harmless edits are made, such as changing an image or fixing word pronunciation. Instead of clear, transparent guidelines, users are left guessing what might trigger moderation, which creates unnecessary frustration and wasted time. The lack of explanation or consistency makes their so-called “standards” feel arbitrary, leaving creators vulnerable to random enforcement rather than a fair, predictable system.

"Overly Restrictive & Poorly Managed Content Moderation — Not Suitable for Medical, Diagnostics, Healthcare, or Biotech Companies"

**Overall:** We evaluated Synthesia for corporate investor and clinician presentations. Our first practice video — based entirely on our public corporate website and focused on a valid, fully compliant medical diagnostics company — was automatically rejected with the message: “Your video submission does not comply with our content moderation policies and cannot be approved.” The support process was frustrating: Initial responses were from an AI bot with canned text. When a human replied, they admitted the content was flagged because it was “medical related” and therefore any use of their stock avatars is prohibited unless you pay extra for a “custom avatar” (minimum $1,000/year). They labeled our material as “medical advice” despite it containing no diagnosis, treatment guidance, or unsafe claims — it was an investor/clinical trial overview. The moderation team refused to reconsider, and the support team said they could not override moderation decisions. The company clearly believes it knows better than its customers what is “appropriate content” and does not trust customers to self-regulate their own content. For companies in healthcare, biotech, medical diagnostics, or related scientific fields — even if your content is non-promotional, educational, and entirely factual — Synthesia’s content moderation rules mean you will not be able to use their stock avatars at all. This limitation is buried in their Acceptable Use Policy and not clearly stated before purchase. Additional issues: When I asked to close my account after realizing the platform would not work for our needs, customer service made no effort at retention — not even a basic attempt to understand the problem or offer solutions. There is also no self-service way to close or delete your account; you must contact support and wait for them to process it. I am not sure how any services company can exist with such rigid policies and poor customer service. Why this matters: If you work in regulated industries, you will likely hit the same roadblock, wasting time and resources. The platform’s automated content moderation is overly broad, misclassifies legitimate content, offers no practical appeal process, shows zero trust in customer judgment, and makes account closure unnecessarily difficult. Pros: Was unable to fully test the product due to unreasonable and restrictive content management. Cons: Overly broad, poorly implemented content moderation No real human review in moderation decisions Company does not trust customers to self-regulate Policy not transparent before purchase Support cannot resolve moderation issues Hidden upsell for “custom avatar” if your content touches on any medical topic No self-service account deletion; must go through support No customer retention effort when cancelling Location: Texas, USA Would I recommend to others? No — especially not for healthcare, biotech, or scientific organizations.

**Pros:** Was unable to fully test the product due to unreasonable and restrictive content management. I suppose for companies outside of biotech or research, this may be an okay software.

**Cons:** \- Overly broad, poorly implemented content moderation - No real human review in moderation decisions - Company does not trust customers to self-regulate - Policy not transparent before purchase - Support cannot resolve moderation issues - Hidden upsell for “custom avatar” if your content touches on any medical topic - No self-service account deletion; must go through support - No customer retention effort when cancelling
