Synthesia allows us to create videos quickly and easily to help broaden our reach and educate our audience. Pros The AI generator speeds up video production timelines and can magic up scripts and visuals to match; some of the avatars are outstanding, some need a little more training! As an editing tool it's easy to use and the AI support chat bot is very clever. Cons Some of the animation styles are a bit dated however I can see new features being added all the time. Some of the avatars are a little bit clunky. The AI generated visuals can sometimes go a bit off-brand / topic but it's easy to use it as a foundation to then edit. I wouldn't use the videos without human eyes to bring them more in line. Review Source BT Bonnie T. Pros Ease of use, the ability to scale my business with creative video content easily. Cons Not being able to change the intonation of words. Alternatives considered [Descript](https://www.capterra.com/p/230702/Descript/) Reason for choosing Synthesia Descript was clunky and hard to use and didn't offer same functions Review Source LM Lisa M. I've really enjoyed getting to know how to use this program and can see it's potential for our business needs. Pros Synthesia makes it so easy to produce a polished video that clearly communicates the key points I need to get across in on-demand training programs. The program's intuitive and easy to navigate, especially if you attend the first couple of free orientation training sessions, which the company currently offers live and for free. It's quick and easy to create a script and then tweak and refine that script so it's crisp and pitch perfect. Then it's easy to go in and refine the visuals so they're reinforcing the main points you're making. Cons It would be great if some avatars incorporated hand gestures, rather than just being talking heads. Also, I'd love video clips of different lengths and greater variety. The selection is already good, but I hope the library of video and visuals will continue to expand. Review Source LB Lucas B. They would not refund me even after it became clear in 2 hours that the service was not what was promised. Pros I did not like Synthesia, I found the quality lacking and the AI features not robust enough to actually deliver either 1. a good quality script 2. a good quality video layout 3. convincing video Cons Everything looks like boxy AI without tone or inflection in the voices. I did not like that at all. I tried it for 2 - 3 hours and then I asked for a refund and they refused citing their terms of service. This was not disclosed when signing up. Review Source JN Jan N. Thanks to AI avatars, we are much more efficient than if we were to film the same content live. The program is easy to use, we quickly implemented it into our workflow and it saves us a lot of time and money. Pros Simple interface for creating videos with AI avatars; easy to understand, fast-responsive, with preview option; also great is the connection to databases of freely available images and videos that can be used in generated videos. Cons Limitation of video generation time within the selected monthly subscription plan; watching already used up time of generated videos is not ideal. Review Source Reid R. Pros I do not have a positive experience to submit to this platform. Cons Synthesia 1. “Community Guidelines” are far too abstract and arbitrary leaving too much interpretation to your censors of free speech to be predictable from the customer/developer. For example, the cancellation of customer/developer videos for “impersonation” seems to not allow for any names either for the avatar to call themselves by name, nor for the avatar to address any person by name is contrary to normal conservational language standards. For any customer/developer, the inability to use common language in your product does not allow for creative efforts into virtual environments to include live, virtual and constructive environments. This restrictive policy removes the ability to present a normal dialogue in virtual environments and is too restrictive, and NOT mentioned in the material you provide prior to purchase of your product. 2. The application of your “Community Guidelines” is punitive and not collaborative. Your “artificial intelligence” has been programmed to detect the potential of “impersonation” should flag the material in question AS the material is being produced in the development window of your product. You could easily program your system to advise the customer/developer of the potential issue during the input stage that would save many hours of time from the customer/developer. Your cancellation of customer/developer videos is very comparable to COVID level censorship and authoritarian means of silencing voices. 3. The inability to then edit and correct the flagged “violation of community standards” by being locked OUT of the materials that we were used during the development cycle means even a larger loss of time. 4. The lack of customer service and coordination over these issues is alarming and seems dictatorial. I see no effort to engage the customer/developer over these concerns, nor correct the waste of time that your company presents. For the reasons above, I recommend avoiding this company. There are far more providers with better products and services. Reid Reasor Review Source EB Elaine B. Instead of labour intensive animation, in a fraction of the time, I can get avatars to present content. Pros The variety of avatars and voices is fabulous and the quality is brilliant, really uplifts videos and makes them engaging. Cons Until the video is actually rendered by Synthesia, you don't know for sure, that the avatars are going to pronounce all the words correctly. I've had to tweak scripts because there are some words that the VO just can't get consistently right. Review Source NA Nikunj A. Pros It is very easy to transform an idea (or text) into a video. I have tested other platforms and Synthesia is by far the easiest one. Cons I would like to create different avatars (some of them with a non-natural look i.e. a robot, or a dog). Seems that it is not possible at the moment. I've been following its development for over 4 years now! Cons I took the time to record my voice to train Synthesia by reading the various prepared readings. My synthesized voice wasn't a particularly good match in timbre and pitch to my own, in my opinion. Review Source DM David M.
