Veterinarian Veterinary Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Using Talkatoo for daily dictation" March 22, 2021 4.0 Great - I honestly wouldn't have splurged on a dictation device before, as I'm not a radiologist reading out reports. That said, it converted me for routine emails and blogs. The speed with which I can dictate an email is much faster, and now typing out a long email without Talkatoo seems tedious. Pros I recently got to try out Talkatoo, and was generally pleased with how easy it was to install and use. While I know this is directed for veterinary professionals when it comes to helping with completion of electronic medical records, I honestly don't use it for this. Most of our EMR are so templated, I didn't find myself using it for that as much as for client communication documentation and discharges. That said, I use Talkatoo WAY more for day-to-day emails and for articles, blogs, book chapters, etc. I like how you can add "MY WORDS" to make the software recognize particular wording. Cons I had some initial IT problems when I installed the Philips Precision Microphone with my sound on my iMac (for input and output), especially when I was using my Airpods, Blue Yeti mic, but was able to resolve this with their great customer support. January 20, 2026 5.0 Its been wonderful and has saved my dvm's time trying to complete there medical records. This an amazing app where it can be tailored to each individual. Pros The Transcription accuracy is amazing and and filters out all the unnecessary conversations. Also you can go back and listen to the recordings. Cons The amount of money depending on the number of doctors. Would love to see a feature where practice managers can use is for meetings. A lot of editing post note creation, however, love ease of access and creation of notes for us Pros I did my the setup and the ease of access. Being able to have talkative make my soap a lot easier was nice as well as the fact is it creates less work for my technicians to actually input that information. Definitely can always remember parts of the conversation a lot easier based on whatever is heard in the rooms and the ability to have it or cross all computers and devices in the clinic has been really nice Cons Syncing across devices Correction of misheard words Occasional times of non-medical terminology or descriptions being placed into the soap notes that make it sound less professional Review Source TO Tim O. May 13, 2025 5.0 When Dragon stopped supporting “Microsoft Word for Mac,” Talkatoo saved my career. I am a physician, not a veterinarian for whom the program was initially developed. But trust me, it makes no difference what kind of work you do. If you use a Mac and need voice-to-transcription software, go with Talkatoo. I cannot recommend them too highly. The company itself, its developers, and tech support are the best in the industry and the most accessible you will ever find. Pros In my work as a physician, the accuracy rate is impressive. Even technical words come out right. And if I need a word or phrase that's out of the ordinary, I add it to my dictionary and suddenly its recognized about ninety-eight percent of the time. Cons I initially had some problems with punctuation. Every time I dictated the word "colon" as it referred to a portion of the intestinal system, a punctuation mark - : - showed up. Talkatoo took care of the problem. Getting dates properly transcribed took a little learning on my part. But, as usual, that's been handled too. Really agile and responsive " March 3, 2025 5.0 From being initially a bit skeptical, we have really evolved to rely on Talkatoo. The amount of time that this saves us is huge. It is clearly still an evolving software which is a good thing. We find they are continuously implementing feedback from us as users and the product continues to get better and better Pros The call summary is hugely helpful. Just being able to call and speak to a client for 10 minutes and then throw that right into my medical record in a summarized format is phenomenal. The company is very responsive to feedback and continues to implement changes and improvements basically every week. Cons It is still a little bit dumb sometimes in the way that it puts simple client communications like "eyes look great" into the medical record. Sometimes I am busy enough with my appointments that I don't always get to use it during or between as much as I would like, but even if I end up doing a lot of my notes after hours, it speeds the process. Pros I like the fact that I can dictate my notes rather than having to type them, and that even brief notes can be reformatted into a more intelligible form via AI. Cons Sometimes it seems to have trouble learning or spelling some of the words that I use-typically drug names or uncommon conditions. I try to record every exam and interaction I have so that I have those notes at the end of the day. It does save me some time. However, I usually end up going in and rewriting the different sections to make them less verbose. As it gets smarter over time and I have to do that less, I think it will save me even more time. Part of that is just that I have to take the time to go in and customize it exactly how I want it. I haven't done that yet. Pros I like that Talkatoo reminds me of some of the things I may forget when I'm finishing my notes at the end of the day. I also love that it summarizes both sides of a phone conversation. Cons The write ups the AI generates is very wordy and if I copy the write up exactly as it is written and paste it into my records, my notes end up being very long. I wish it were more concise. It saves so much time and increases the quality of medical records which makes rechecks, transferring cases, and referrals so much better and simpler. I do not think I could go back to not having it, it has completely spoiled me now. I love the various formats and options, the equine soap also does such a good job for large animal cases. Pros It makes me so much more efficient in clinic. The notes are well summarized and well written, usually better than I could write myself. Cons It often does not use proper medical terminology for things and instead uses the lay-person terms. For example it will write " ear infection" instead of otitis externa.
