Frequent updates require continuous pipeline modification. I could complain, but actually, despite its flaws, Ftrack does things better than Shotgun. Pros Easy to access, easy to chain tasks involving multiple people. Cons Proper setup requires a lot of API coding and updates often break things. They come out of the blue and are never a welcome site. Instead of "congratulations" it's: "Let's see what they broke this time?" There needs to be an option for letting the client choose when to roll up and not force it upon them, but that's not in the works, as far as I know. The time tracker is also quite smart and pretty easy to use. Cons My greatest frustration comes with the multiple overlapping popup windows for tasks and time tracking, they are ALWAYS covering up important information I needed to see/click on in the base screen (I am having to come up with funky workarounds to use, instead of tracking my tasks properly). A little more customization or smarter popup placement would be much appreciated. It needs daily usage to understand it, if you are a worker that barely spends time in it, it can be confusing. Pros It's extensive customization and templates set for any kind of our personal accommodation requirements. Cons At first glance there is a lot of information going on in one place, making it quite visually distracting. And for those workers that only need to do a specific task like just upload daily or files, it gets confusing since they are seen too much information that they don't require. It has helped with managing our work load, but also for communicating issues, tasks, and deadlines. Cons The webplayer could be improved upon, right now it is a little clunky. For example, when I'm looking at my work through the webplayer, I have to go through and change every single shot to the most recent task. The shots that show up should be the most recent, not the first version uploaded. Also, notes made within the webplayer also don't seem to go to the correct task level, rather they go to the topmost level, which means I have to double-check and navigate to other task levels to see any notes made there. This is a problem because notes can easily be missed if you are unaware of a new note being made on a new version, or if you expect that note to be on another task level. Cons Notes. When uploading media, I need to add a note to each shot. However only a single line is available and if the note is long, you aren't able to see the start of the message without scrolling back. there is no ability to make a paragraph or sub-paras which would allow for clearer articulation of what was done on a challenging shot.
