I needed a way to track how I spend in research and in writing and I needed to be able to split it out by client. What I love about timeBro is that it automatically tracks what I'm doing and shows the titles of the docs I'm reading or writing so I can easily categorise which client to bill. Pros The automatic time-tracking is the best feature from my perspective. I have having to interrupt my flow in order to log my time. I love the way timeBro shows me the application I was working in as well as the title of the document. Cons There are many additional features built into timeBro that I will never use. Designer Design Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Stable Time Tracking" December 16, 2022 4.0 I work for short periods on multiple items for multiple clients and without timebro, its easy to forget to log the time involved when I switch between, and lose hours. With this you won't. It is basic compared to the competition but the tracking itself is really accurate, which is the most important part (for me at least). Pros Simple to installSimple to use,Rock steady automatic time tracking (I tried several of the competitors before deciding on timebro and its the most consistent by far if working on multiple projects and software)Tracks software and filenames so fairly easy to log time even if you leave it a few days before getting back to it. August 24, 2023 5.0 It has allowed me to make smarter decisions in regards to my time. Were the 10 minutes spent on social media worth it? How long does it take me to write my weekly newsletter? Well, it turns out that it takes longer than I thought. How long does it usually take me to research a new fantastical setting and what were the sites that helped me do that most efficiently? I know now because I have a history of time spent. These data have made it possible for me to know just how much time I can expect to burn on a short story (so I can say yes or no to an invite) and decide if it's worth the cost to my ongoing novels and projects. It has made me realize that word-count alone is not a reliable metric and that's why no matter how many 2000-word days I got in, there seemed to be so little actual story progress (hint: it's because typing is not writing). It has helped me pinpoint which part of the day to spend doing the brain-heavy stuff and which parts are better left for those times/days when I am lagging. Pros I love the fact that it allows me track which apps and documents I work in. At any one time I may have my manuscript open in Scrivener, 10 browser tabs for doing research, social media interaction and so on, as well as project management software like Aeon Timeline, and chat apps with other authors or with readers. I feel like I'm going in a dozen different directions at once because I am. I used to try to keep track of how much time I actually spent writing, but it was impossible to parse out that after ten minutes of writing/typing I'd open up a search window so I could look at a picture of futuristic furniture on Pinterest to put into the scene I was working on. TimeBro captures my hopping between actual writing and other stuff (like looking at images or figuring out what someone looks like). It helped me distinguish between productive writing sessions and unproductive ones, as well as how much of an impact my editing process had on final word count. Now I know that the next time I have a 120K-word manuscript edited it will probably take me 50 hours to go over the edits, because now I have a way to track that. Same with the time spent on copyedits, going over alpha-reads, galleys, and so on. I had no clue how much time I was spending on these other-than-writing activities before. Not even close. Cons I do wish I could track the time spent in individual scenes (sub-documents) in Scrivener so I could know how long a specific scene took to write and that it would auto-assign categories based on which document or app I was in. I switch between projects constantly all day, so this takes the guesswork out of trying to figure out how much time I spent on each one every day. It allows you to be as detailed (assigning specific tasks in projects) as you want (or don't want). I am a freelancer and different clients require different amounts of detail for billing - it's nice to NOT have to fill in all of those details if you don't need it. I love that TimeBro works on MY schedule and allows me to go in and assign projects and tasks after the fact. It has truly been a lifesaver for my billing! Pros I love that TimeBro automatically tracks your time without you needing to set up ANYTHING. You can go back in and assign projects once you have some time, but it starts working immediately without you needing to do anything. It's awesome that it just runs in the background - I don't have to remember to start it or mark that I started a new project or anything. I can add it all in when I have the time. Cons It would be nice to be able to view monthly data visually - like in a graph format. Also, to have the bar graph in "Statistics" show how much time is spent on each project every day, but these are very minor things. It allows me to spend less time billing each month and allows me to capture more billable hours. Cons The capacity to edit time entry properties (e.g. changing the billed rate from the default) use improvement. Depending on what kind of edits are needed, going into the billing software to edit the time entry is sometimes necessary. Reason for choosing Memtime When investigating possible time tracking products, I found timeBro offered more functionality at a fraction of the cost of many other billing software. For example : i can use my icalendar for the meetings a know in advance. Beside this i can add everything i did in between. It used to take ours to recall everything i did. Pros I think it's working ok, but stopped using it after some time. Cons The licensing business model is based on the bet on users forgetting when the renewal period is. I myself stopped using it and after a year I was billed for renewal (for two more years) even though I was not using it at all. I immediately canceled my subscription but was refused the refund. I think that in today's word its fair to bill your customers for using your software, and many solid companies do it its way. If you product is good, customers won't cancel. October 28, 2021 5.0 Pros TimeBro fills the in the gaps with supplemental information and helps me to stay on top of my finances. Cons I don't love the name :) But the software itself is amazing. I love the 3 columns and having my calendar and active screens side by side.
