November 30, 2018 5.0 I've been using AutoCAD for many years and there are still many things to learn. I don't believe a single person will ever be able to learn all there is for AutoCAD to offer in their lifetime. Once you learn the basics, it is easy to use. Pros There's so much you can do on this program. This is mainly a 2D drawing program and in that line of work, the possibilities are endless. It's highly recommended if you are drawing electrical. It works great for home floorplans. Cons This is not the AutoCAD capable of drawing in 3D. This is specifically a 2D drawing program. That is the difference between AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT. LT is 2D. This is very important when choosing programs. Still the best drafting software ever! Pros For the price and the features, you have 95% of the full CAD version to use, and the rest features are barely used anyway. Cons Can't do 3D modeling. And you can easily use SketchUp (Free) or other BIM software to do it. I don't like designing with it, but rarely have issues. It is intuitive and plays well with other 2D programs for import and export. Pros Timeless. I learned how to use this this a lifetime ago and can still use it when I need it every 2 years or so. Cons Having used parametric 3D CAD, going back to work with dumb lines is a little jarring. I am used to using relations like midpoint, tangent, etc, and when I edit dimensions these relations are maintained. Editing line lengths, shapes, and positions is more tedious when when you have to deliberately create these relations. It is a great software for Engineers and engineering students also. Pros This is a software which provides with all the features of 2D drawing. As a building engineer I use this software on a weekly basis for my work. Its ease of use and functionality has resisted myself from choosing any other CAD software over this. Cons No cons actually. It would be better if 3D drawing was available in the software. It would lessen the hassle of exporting the project to another 3D rendering software. Hard to beat for the money. Pros The value of this is great. You can't beat the capabilities you get for the cost you are paying. This is purely a 2D drawing method with no 3D features at all. Essentially AutoCAD light. If you are just drawing in 2D it's hard to beat the value of this. Cons No 3D elements and not always able to integrate with other features. It serves my needs, and I have never had to call support for it once. Great experience overall. Pros Simple to use. Doesn't have the full functionality of other versions, but I don't need those for my work. Cons There's not really much I specifically dislike about AutoCAD T. Again, some features which I typically wouldn't use anyway aren't there, and honestly I've been pleasantly surprised to find features which I would have NOT thought would be available actually were. It's giving us the solutions and the answers we desire. Pros As a team we have had a positive experience using Autocad for our work. It comes with a lot of computing power for our training project drawings in driver training. It has the ability to load a file that generates a picture and allows the user to trace the picture and drawing. There are a few software that can do what Autocad does, if any at all. Cons The features in Autocad are so many that it will take forever to learn them all...because they are hard to learn. And I consider that a negative. Pros I personally use this to make floor plans for Properties that are in development. It works perfectly for that and helps put he size of the properties ito perspective for my clients with detailed measurements and amenities. Cons Can be hard to figure out the UI and there doesnt seem to be a lot of source material on LT specifically. Luckily the way it's set up isn't too far off for other AutoCAD programs. Pros Once you get past the learning curve it's easy to use, and pretty powerful. Most of the limitations will come from user inexperience. Once you're familiar with it you can create some great things! Cons The price can me a detriment to some, as there are cheaper alternatives that do similar things, but most of them are not as powerful or well configured as this. Also, if you're not familiar with any CAD like products, it might be a learning curve. It's a fluid design and presentation tool that simply works. Pros I've been working with AutoCAD LT for many years, and have tried the other standard options (Microstation and Vectorworks). AutoCAD LT is hands down the most accurate, quickest to draw with, and most likely to be compatible with everything else. Cons The cost - the change to a subscription model is understandable, but it screws over those of us who invested in perpetual licences with maintenance. It's also still pretty hopeless at references, which make any file irritatingly slow.
