Pros I use Visio for so many things - Floor layout when I renovated my home, network planning, datacenter rack planning, flow charts and others. It's versatile, easy to use, handles scalable drawings nicely - It's great. I highly recommend investing the time in learning all the useful keyboard shortcuts, they take a bit of time to learn but pay back in time saved (Thanks VisioCafe for making this available for free:http://www.visiocafe.com/downloads/Mouse&Keyboard-Shortcuts-Visio2002.vsd) Cons As always with the tools that are versatile - there's a learning curve, and for every single use case you can think of there might be a more dedicated tool that is easier / cheaper Etc. Pros Visio is the defacto standard when it comes to creating detailed IT architecture diagrams and something I can't be without. What's even better is how versatile Visio is, and great for anything from laying out your garden irrigation to overlaying elements on house plans. Cons Better support for defining a scale based on an underlying image. ie. when pasting a screenshot of a house plan it would be great to be able to customize the scale within Visio to match the underlying image so when overlaying elements, they can be at the correct scale. If you thinking of buying a tv/sound bar or other electronic, I advise you to steer clear from Visio!!! We purchased a TV back in April, we moved into the tiny house about three weeks ago. We set up the original TV, it worked for 2-3 days, when we tried to set up the WI-FI it said it needed to restart after we typed all the information into the TV. When the TV came back on it was just a black screen. We contacted the company and they said they would send us a replacement because there was no technician in our area. We were charged for another TV in the meantime of them sending us out the replacement which is understandable. We received the replacement tv in the mail the other day. We spend over an hour attaching it to the wall and everything. We packaged up the original tv and had everything ready to be sent back out to them and get the deposit back from the replacement. We installed the replacement tv and again tried to connect it to the WiFi and we are having the same issue as the original TV. We spent over an hour fighting with Visio directly this morning (on our Anniversary- yes) they proceeded to tell us that the only option was to send out a technician and see what they said. On the one hand it is powerful and feature rich, and does a great job for what it is. On the other hand - it has it's quirks. I have a renewed hope as Microsoft continues to 're-build' Visio on the web, that it can be an easy choice in years to come. Pros Visio is a robust, industry-standard mapping and diagramming software that has proven its use over the years. While complex to learn the desktop app, it is feature rich and powerful once you master it. Microsoft's recent effort over the past few years to build a 'lightweight' web app has been much appreciated and has modernized building and sharing basic diagrams across Microsoft 365 (with better licensing structure). Cons Visio desktop app is complicated and definitely has it's quirks. Once you learn your way around, it is powerful however. I look forward to the day the web app has feature parity in the areas I primarily use it, which is process mapping and general diagramming. Notwithstanding, I stop using it once the competition started to offer an easier, more pleasant, and cheaper way to reproduce what you could usually make with Microsoft Visio. Suffice it to say the phrase 'A picture is worth a thousand words' is very true and this product helps bring ideas to life. Pros Granted it was purchased by Microsoft from Visio Corporation in 2000 but it hasn't lost a thing, which is quite unbelievable. In fact, it has gotten better over the years. I have to say it is truly one of the most "beautiful" pieces of software I've ever used. From the flow of the user interface to the creation of almost any type of diagram, Visio has been there for me since day one. The ability to layer diagrams and images can not be beat. With some additional VBA work in the tool, it can not be beat for ease of use and flexibility. It can also connect to a database and create ER diagrams. It also has UML which can almost turn directly into code. Almost. It's not quite there. Yet. Cons It will come as no surprise that the price is what is the most absurd. The pricing of the product lines will take this software out of reach of casual users. For doing any truly useful work, the Professional version is almost double the Standard version. As an engineer, I create many process flowcharts to facilitate understanding and organizing the ideas of my clients and students. The ability to import DWG files is one of the great advantages of this software for professionals. In view of its great features I never chose to use another similar program. Pros I was able to create my flowcharts from the first use of the software. Considering its features and sharing options, it has good cost-benefit and is capable of generating different products in different formats and in excellent quality. Using Microsoft Visio online in my browser and being able to create together with other users makes the professional visio experience more successful. In this software, I can create diagrams and flowcharts from the simplest to the most complex and detailed. Cons One feature that the program could improve on is the variety of plans and forms of payment available. It allows exporting to PDF, so non-technical end users can view your completed document. Cons It does not handle large amounts of text well, in the same way Excel or Word does. It is a bit tricky to edit and format, overall. Large sheets can be difficult to use without a large monitor/display. The learning curve is a bit steep for new users. My overall experience is good and its really wonderful. I am able to express myself in terms of designing wireframes successfully through this. Pros Microsoft VISIO is awesome application. I am using it since 2008 and have used various versions of it. Visio is wonderful desktop application which runs smoothly. It consists of many inbuilt tools andd diagram shape which helps you in creating awesome documents such as 1) Mockups 2) wireframes 3) Flowchart 4) Workflow design 5)creating network topology diagram 6) Process documentation etc. Its drag & drop feature elements, grouping/un-grouping feature is awesome. Micorosoft office related shortcut commands work perfectly. Cons The problem with microsoft applications that these are costly. Visio is similarly costly product and its lighter version not available for cheaper prices. Product feature wise i can say that its is weaker on mockup design for Android and iPhone mobile apps wireframes, microsoft should add such stencils also in this application so that people continue to use it.
