### "My experience with Construct 3 has been very positive. "

May 7, 2026

5.0

Pros

Construct 3 is very helpful for creating my final DKV project game. The visual scripting system makes it easier to develop an autorunner and quiz-based educational game without advanced coding skills. Fast workflow, beginner friendly, and great for 2D game development.

Cons

Some advanced features and export options are limited for students with a low budget. Large projects can also become harder to manage without better organization tools.

### "Solid and Versatile. A great choice even for experienced programmers."

September 17, 2025

5.0

For me, the standout feature is how productive Construct makes me. I can develop features and try out new ideas really fast. Construct doesn't get in my way, and event sheets make prototyping and development a breeze. Whenever I need to create more advanced features that I'd rather code in a programming language, I can use TypeScript (a fully fledged programming language, pretty similar to C#).

Pros

As someone with experience using other game-making tools and programming professionally, I can attest that Construct is a remarkably versatile game engine. It's straightforward to get started, even for those with no coding experience, yet it's also quite powerful for experienced developers familiar with programming languages.

Cons

One downside is the price, but I think it's a fair trade-off given the tool's quality. I'd rather pay a higher price for a tool that helps me ship a game than use a cheaper alternative that takes 5 times as long to build the same game.

Switched from

[Unity](https://www.capterra.com/p/158591/Unity/)

Simple to use. I'd prefer a tool that boosts my productivity. Construct lets me build and deliver games in a fifth of the time it takes with another engine. I first tried it for a few GameJams, and was impressed.

### "Construct is one of the best tools"

April 22, 2026

5.0

The HTML games I've created so far work wonderfully; the screen adaptation and game size have met all my expectations. The support is amazing; they are always available to respond as quickly as possible.

Pros

The tool is incredibly easy to use. It's simple to work with different user profiles. the result of super well optimized HTML games. The support is amazing.

Cons

What you can achieve with the tool, as you use it, you'll get the most out of it to achieve incredible things. The HTML games I've created so far work wonderfully; the screen adaptation and game size have met all my expectations.

### "A good idea hampered by inexperienced leadership and a stubborn control freak of a lead developer"

February 2, 2026

2.0

The basic fundamentals are solid, but as the developers continue going down the path of obsolescence while declaring their product is the best thing since sliced bread, the userbase continues to shrink and the more experienced game and addon developers move elsewhere to deal with less openly hostile behavior from the main developers of competing products. And that's all a shame, because the basic concepts the engine is built around are solid, but with its lead developer being unable to get any real improvements over the finish line, the company getting distracted by aimlessly chasing different market segments, anyone looking for a game engine is better off looking into Unity, Unreal, Godot, GDeveloper or GameMaker. So many headaches will be avoided.

Pros

Straightforward to get prototypes up and running quickly and easily. Potentially good for simple web games.

Cons

Construct 3 features are buggy, rarely fixed, even more rarely finished, and exist only to provide a not-quite-honest bullet point on their often wildly dishonest marketing materials - a good example of this is "3D support" which only exists in the most vague sense with the software supporting a 3D camera, while everything else remains 2D. Major, but expected features like animation timelines - in this case, a poor man's recreation of Adobe Flash/Animate's timeline, figured out decades ago - barely function, and only when they're not completely crashing the software, causing all unsaved work to be lost. Multiple times a day, every day. Larger projects are simply a pain because of the unreliability of the software. Scirra's development leadership continually hamstrings their own product, including blocking 3rd-party developers from accessing internal engine features that could previously be expended upon to drastically improve engine performance and features, going so far as blocking previously accessible capabilities, breaking every single addon - hundreds of them - available for Construct 3. The lack of experience in game development held by the lead developer rears its ugly head in this fashion far too often. I have not seen such astounding ignorance spoken with such confidence often. Platform support is sub-par, and while the product website has listed various console platforms over the years, including Nintendo and Microsoft game consoles, it has never truly supported these platforms. Recent changes in exporters has even left other desktop platforms in shambles, either completely broken or simply unreliable as they move away from standard web tech runtimes and attempt to create their own, which they outright do not have the expertise or resources to complete, and which have been left in a terrible place for close to year now. The state of things should be embarrassing to any developer.

Switched from

[Unity](https://www.capterra.com/p/158591/Unity/)

At the time I was looking for a better 2D solution than what Unity was capable of. Times have changed and Unity now has the features I was looking for at the time.

### "Professional indie game developer using Construct since 2012"

September 17, 2025

5.0

I started using Construct in 2012 with Construct 2. I didn't move to C3 straight away due to its subscription model. I still use C2 and C3 today. C3 is definitely a must have if I work for clients, since they want to be able to see the code when I work as freelancer, also C3 is an easier choice if I have to develop games for mobile, since it's straight forward to export and create mobile games. Construct has lot of native plugins that really help a lot in creating game quickly. Import one image, add to it Car the ScrollTo behaviors. Add another sprite to use as building, give it the Solid behavior and that's it. You have already a little game prototype in less than one minute where you can drive your car forward, back and steering. The car stops and bounce when hitting a building. The car can also perform drifting, all of this without having written a single line of code. It's not finished yet, the Car behavior has lots of setting in its properties, so you can adjust many values to create a particular Car movement. With Max Speed, Acceleration, Deceleration, Steer Speed, Drift Recover and Friction, you have so many settings to create a great number of different car movement. You will have more time to try to find the smooth movement you want the car to have rather than coding. When it comes to code, everything is very simple, with each event being made of at least one Condition and one Action, basically cause and effect. You can choose from the list of the plugin currently added to the project all conditions/actions related to it without having to type much. Common actions are already created for you, you just need to pick them. No need to worry about mistyping or not to know what the command name is. It's already all there, leaving you time to focus on the game mechanics. There are times where you want to have more control and yes, the even sheet let you have a certain degree of control, where you can write formulas and conditions manually. If that is not enough for you, there is also the option to integrate JavaScript and TypeScypt into the game. Personally I never use those, unless I have to integrate JavaScript code to connect to the client's server, in case for example the player needs to login to a particular platform. So what to say more? There is a lot to see about the good stuff that Construct 3 has, but I don't think you want to read a book about it. It's just easier to go and jump onboard trying the free version. Especially if you have no idea about how to code, you will love it! To prove my words, you can check out a small selections of my projects made with Construct 2 and Construct 3 here: https://biim-games.itch.io/

Pros

It let me develop video games very quickly. I am now a full time indie developer thanks to Construct! With Construct I can create any type of 2d game and I have worked on a lot of different games. It's fast to create a prototype, sometimes even just a simple concept can be done in one or two hours.

Cons

Subscription model, I really hate all of those, everyone is moving towards "You will own nothing, and will be happy" model. Construct 2 was sold with one time payment and it was great. I understand that maintaining a software has it's costs, but I would have perhaps made a fixed cost for basic features and then pay for having additional plugins etc. In this way one could buy what they want and need. There is already a Construct Store so any new feature like a plugin, could just be sold in the store and added to Construct core engine.

Switched from

[GameMaker: Studio](https://www.capterra.com/p/158594/GameMaker-Studio/)

At the time of the switch there was only Construct 2, since it was 2012. Construct 2 had a single payment while Game Maker had to pay for every different type of export (HTML5, PC, etc.). That's why I don't like C3 subscription model and I prefer C2 one time payment.

### "Create Games Easily While Keeping Flexibility and Speed"

September 19, 2025

5.0

I am on my third major game development project with Construct 3 and as a solo game dev I can honestly say if made my wildest dreams possible. I am very grateful to the excellent set of tools that Scirra has delivered! I will continue to stay loyal to what I know will always work! Their documentation is the bests I have found. Simple read the manual and you are off and running with high levels of understanding!

Pros

If you are looking for an inexpensive, Easy to Learn, and Flexible Game Development Solution that also has a great community then consider Construct 3. I have been using Construct since 2013 and have always found it easy to use. They community is the bridge to answering any difficult issues you may encounter. The publishing options are excellent as you can publish to many platforms.

Cons

As a long time Construct user I was not thrilled when they initially moved to a browser based solution, but in the long run it was the right choice. I like the ease of being able to connect to any browser and just get to work. This also makes testing so much easier.

Alternatives considered

[Unity](https://www.capterra.com/p/158591/Unity/)

Reason for choosing Construct 3

Scirra was more focused in the area I was interested with top notch 2d game development.

Ease and modern features. I was using Borland C++ with Allegro and it did not make sense to keep coding everything myself. With Construct I can just get to work immediately.

### "construct is good but..."

September 22, 2025

1.0

It was great up until the SDK changes, that broke most of my internal addons. and since they removed functionality. there was no way to port those addons. Leaving a paying customer with no option but to find an alternative engine

Pros

It was very easy to get started with a project. Very geared toward beginners. The UI was nice an intuitive.

Cons

Working on larger complex projects don't lean well toward the structure of Construct. There is no way to reuse code across project without copying and pasting and that is hit or miss unless the exact same object-types exits. Lots of bugs, with half baked features. When releasing new feature they are mostly half baked, and missing things. timeline was super buggy (still is), things like cvs plugin are missing actions? sure they usually improve over time, but with such a small team, and huge backlog it takes a really long time for them to get back to stuff. The recent changes regarding the SDK, made me unsubscribe and never look back. These changes were anti-consumer. They heavily restricted 3rd party development and essentially force all features to be only made Scirra, and with their huge backlog and small team, chances of a feature being picked up was slim. and with no work around or way to implement it yourself you are at their mercy.

### "Wouldn't wanna miss it"

September 17, 2025

5.0

I like the overall trajectory that Construct has, I think it's going places even though sometimes I'd wish it would go places just a little bit faster. I still give it the full 5 stars despite some hiccups and gripes, simply because it's not like other engines are entirely free of issues. I have been a customer for well over a decade for a reason. Unfortunately I don't have usage statistics, but I'd probably crack 10000 hours easily.

Pros

For me Construct just "clicked" since I initially had no experience in programming. Construct also does a good job in luring you in with its ease of use and simplicity, and before you know it you're sucked in deeper and deeper. Don't be fooled, the first impression might have you think that it's kind of a "kids toy engine" but it is very much a powerful engine. I went in having zero experience, and now I comfortably write games in javascript with quite high complexity. Everything self-taught thanks to Construct. Bug reports are also usually resolved very quickly, and considering I'm usually cruising on the beta-branch (which is considered unstable) I very, very rarely encounter bad issues apart from the odd crash here or there.

Cons

The small team-size of the Construct team has positives but also downsides. There are some feature requests that I'd personally consider very important that have been open for years, but still not implemented. This is somewhat understandable given the simple fact that there are a huge amount of requests and limited resources, which the developers have been open about. But overall, I'd still love to see a quicker turnover, especially when it's not entirely new features but rather upgrades to already existing features. Of course I should also mention the price, with it being a subscription. It's not my favorite thing either, but I'm ok with it. There is also a distinct lack of console export support (apart from 3rd party porting services), for various reasons. Depending on your plans, that could be a dealbreaker or simply irrelevant.

Switched from

[GameMaker: Studio](https://www.capterra.com/p/158594/GameMaker-Studio/)

I used Gamemaker for a bit, but back then in never quite clicked with me. I stumbled on Construct by chance and got hooked really quick. Never looked back.

### "I'm still learning but LOVING it so far! Highly recommended to anyone with an idea for a new game. Make it! "

August 3, 2025

5.0

Thoroughly impressed with the documentation, community, and amazingly approachable and helpful team.

Pros

The platform is amazingly accessible and there are ample resources to get started. !I tested out some other similar products before settling on Construct 3, and with those others I felt myself hitting a confusing brick wall fast and turning to random meandering Youtube videos to try and figure out what I'm supposed to do. Nothing of the kind with Construct 3, everything is so intuitive I can always find a path toward whatever I'm trying to make happen. It's fun!

Cons

I'm still in the early stages of learning the ropes, but I like everything so far. I guess if I had to pick something, the price isn't cheap. But it's well worth what you get. And for me, having made the financial investment just provides extra incentive to actually put in the hours making my game!

### "Fantastic engine with outstanding support!"

May 11, 2026

5.0

I am truly thrilled with Construct 3 and I really enjoy working with it. Their tutorials are perfectly crafted, making the creation process both fun and intuitive. I would also like to highly commend their customer support. I encountered a problem that was actually my own fault, but despite that, I received a very positive and helpful response, and the issue was resolved successfully. I am genuinely satisfied and look forward to our continued collaboration, where I’ll be able to bring my gaming website to life with my own games thanks to Construct 3.

Pros

I’d say Construct 3 is very clear, intuitive, and easy to use—simply great. I’m just starting out, but I can’t wait to create my first games here.

Cons

To be honest, I have not encountered a single thing that I would criticize or complain about so far during my experience.

### "I've tried several engines, but this one changed my life."

May 13, 2025

5.0

I started with Construct 2, and when Construct 3 came out, watching videos, I decided to give it a go. It's amazing. Being able to have an idea realized in a matter of minutes and being able to send it to the client, whether they're on the go, on the subway, or eating in a restaurant. Brilliant. Very easy to export to different platforms. It's intuitive. Do you need programming skills? Yes. Although many people say they don't, as with any engine, if you know little, you'll accomplish little.

Pros

Remote preview. Anywhere in the world. On a phone, tablet, or PC. Extremely fast for creating mini-games, both for websites and for companies with advertising resources. It's a very good and optimal work tool.

Cons

For now, and I'm speaking from 2019, there haven't been any problems. The engine adapts to needs and the community nurtures it. You can export to the Play Store, Steam, Switch, among others. I would like to see the engine promoted and become more well-known, so that it generates more work for the developers who use it. There are many people who use Construct, but those who don't take the engine seriously don't.

great for quickly prototyping simple ideas, but not necessarily shipping out a complex final product

Pros

ease of use. Construct 3 has a robust feature set to get up & running quickly

Cons

Unfortunately, as one gets further along in developing an idea, one is often confronted with buggy inconsistent results despite well structured coding blocks, sometimes all it will take is to re-order them differently, and suddenly it works.

### "The most effective game developer software."

Nothing comes close to Construct 3 in term of creating and developing a game of your choice without coding.

Pros

I think no other software comes close to this when it comes to creating and developing a game without the use of coding or a professional help. It got a simple interface that has made it easy for me to work with. Great animation feature it got. Less cost and easy to access. Its drag and drop feature has made it easy to import and develop a game that matches the level of my choice.

Cons

More interesting features should be introduced to allow for more easy development of any game of choice.
