Pros

Intuitive and simple approach to the no-code nature of the engine. Very easy to use, but offers a lot for those who master it.

Cons

### "Game development made simple"

February 13, 2024

5.0

I love the concept of construct 3 it completely blew me away even as a software developer. I don't have to go through the whole process of developing a game software. I can easily do that in simple steps with Construct 3 while still able to customize the software to my clients taste.

Pros

I was able to write my own games without writing a single line of code. t The drag-and-drop feature simplify the entire process. It allowed me to focus on bringing my game ideas to life rather than Getting carried away by complex codes especially when I don't want to stress myself Construct 3 is flexible i can also integrate JavaScript the browser bases feature is great also I create, edit my games directly in my browser without having to worry about compatibility issues. highly responsive customer service too. Great software overall.

Cons

as far as I'm concerned no cons in construct 3. i recommend it

### "Why Construct 3 is THE Best "No-Code" Engine"

November 10, 2022

5.0

Construct 3 has made making games less of a math paper and more of a creative space where I can bring world's to life and enjoy doing so. Every other engine has made some attempts at the no code approach, and although there are some honorable mentions, NO ONE does it like Construct 3.

Pros

Construct 3 beats every other engine such as GDevelop and GameSalad that attempts to utilize a no code approach to game development in terms of performance, simplicity, UX, UI, and options within the events system that make their custom language much more powerful than the alternatives.

Cons

I have no gripe with anything concerning construct 3.

### "Construct 3"

April 3, 2022

2.0

Worst of time, money, and effort. A literal nightmare. I'm surprised no one sued them yet.

Pros

\- super-low low minimum learning. - very good for prototyping.

Cons

\- pricing is abysmal. - it runs in web browsers. - subscription-based. - using 3rd party extensions is a must-have if you want to create anything beyond the limited scope and templates. - Scirra is a shady company that has an almost 20 years track record of abandoning software during development . - false marketing (they are advertising the engine with games and software made with... their previous engines). - customer support is insulting. Any problem is being blamed on the user and when caught red-handed they always blame external factors. - outdated features or absolute lack of fundamental ones, present in the industry for decades.

### "Best choice for beginners and advanced game developers"

November 10, 2022

5.0

Construct 3 game engine is the best choice that suits all my needs at the moment. I have plenty of prototypes already in active development and managed to release my very first game on Steam platform thanks to it. I recommend that product for everyone who wants to try out game development.

Pros

Construct 3 game engine is the best choice for someone who don't know how to code but have an idea for a game. Its drag-and-drop actions feature enables easy and fast prototyping, but also is a nice introduction for a game development itself. It is a very flexible tool for creating 2D/2.5D games (and from what I've seen it's going into basic 3D features as well since some time).

Cons

I would love to have an option to pay once and have an option to download a desktop (Windows) program of it.

### "Construct exceeds all other Code-less Gaming Frameworks"

November 11, 2022

5.0

I was introduced to Construct in 2014 by one of my students. I downloaded it and within 1 hour I had an operational "PacMan"-style game. Recently, I was able to transcribe 10 of my AS2 Flash games into working game prototypes.

Pros

I admire how quickly I was able to convert AS2 and AS3 scripts into "Pure JavaScript" and Construct Event blocks. I've used 25 different JavaScript Gaming Frameworks. I am able to produce initial game prototypes faster by using Construct "Event System".

Cons

Coming from a programming background and teaching software engineering for the past 14 years, my first barrier to Construct was its "Event System" and learning the various add-ons (plugins, behaviors, and effects.

### "A perfect introduction to game design"

November 14, 2022

4.0

I enjoy and continue to enjoy construct mainly applying it to my field of education. Sadly there is no big push to encourage school to use construct which feel like a wasted opportunity. (Speaking for UK school at least) many computer science teachers are moving away from scratch or want to, a high quality to resource (Maybe paired with free licence for schools) that meet the national curriculum will introduce construct to a new generation and grow the community. When they leave school they might be encouraged to purchase construct them self but I genuinely feel education is the best place to tackle. (Happy to discuss this further)

Pros

I have been using construct for over 2 years to produce a handful of apps, for GCSE and A-level coursework, in after school club and running my Youtube channel (game design with Reilly). The tool can be accessed by anyone and anyone can make a simple game. With the exception of the 3D side the 2d engine surprises me and does can have the limits I thought it would for such a shallow learning curve. I am always finding new things and feel able making large project in the engine.

Cons

My biggest want is the ability to add multiple collision mask to a single object and enable and disable them during an animation. Currently fighting games are extremely complex to make and being able to create an animation for a leg kick, add a hurt box during the animation which is accurate to the player and add an active hitbox would be a great feature. Many developers and artist want to collab with me but we are forced to email files back and fourth. Collab tools would be amazing. The arcade is a great addition and easy to use but there is no search feature. It means after your game is uploaded and past the first week where its still on new releases, the game is almost invisible unless using google to search for it.

### "Construct 3 is an amazing product for virtually anyone making 2D games"

March 27, 2020

5.0

I love Construct and am a proud user of it. I encourage people who I know are interested in learning game development or are looking for new tools to check it out. I'm an unpaid evangelist for the platform and have worked with companies to consider supporting it more explicitly. This has unfortunately been difficult to do as an unofficial voice for the platform, but I still like trying to make sure monetization options out there at least know about Construct to consider it down the road.

Pros

Construct lets me prototype new ideas very quickly and get things moving fast. helps me evaluate an idea rapidly to either discard it, pursue it or improve it. The software is very stable. I can't think of the last time I experienced anything that was a legitimate bug. Constant updates / patches and improvements are clear signs of a project that's thrive.

Cons

I honestly can't think of any Cons about the software as is, however I do have two points that I believe Construct could do better in and would make the platform even more powerful, populare and profitable for their users: I wish they would make inroads to 3D game development. While I know 3D introduces new complexities, I'm not convinced I see how adding a Z axis and a 3d view would not still work with the same core logic and rules of Construct. HTML5 can be used to produce hi quality 3D games with other tech using the same core javascript language. Even if it were light 3D stuff at first like making a game like crossy roads.. i mean come on. Construct 3(D!) :) I would also like to really see a concrete solution from Construct to make it easier for HTML5 web games to be monetized. There are ways, but they are very much "you figure it out" solutions that as a non-programmer pretty much make it a non starter. Mobile is super saturated and finding success in it gets harder and harder. Web while not having it's own challenges would still open up a lot of new genres and possibilities. Or perhaps working closely with a strong platform like Kongregate. I would love to develop games for browser for PC like a nice RPG that would be browser based.. but at this time I find the options not feasible as a Construct user.

Alternatives considered

[Unity](https://www.capterra.com/p/158591/Unity/)[Unreal Engine](https://www.capterra.com/p/158599/Unreal-Engine/)

Reason for choosing Construct 3

I gave Unreal a serious try with their new blueprints system which was a kind of visual scripting that was official. you could make games with this and not get too into code, however after many hours and dozens of videos while i was getting it, i felt like i was still so far from even beginning to know how to build a game with it.. I also checked out unity. I tried playmaker as a visual scripting solution, but in reality while i got a little further with it than Unreal, it became apparent that i might as well just learn to code to use it and i don't really enjoy coding.. so in the end, while I DO miss 3D options.. I'm making do with 2D just fine.

### "Started because its easy to use, stayed because its very powerful"

November 13, 2022

5.0

My experience has been awesome, C3 makes game development a really fun experience since the workflow becomes faster and simpler compared to other engines. I have no plans to stop using it as long as my team keeps working on 2D projects, and I know that the engine will get even more features since the devs are very active and easy to reach.

Pros

The event-sheet-based programming was the reason I started using Construct 3, since it's so easy, fast, and intuitive to make games with it, but this doesn't limit the engine in any means, the engine is very powerful and has everything my team needs to develop awesome 2D games with it. We have been using C3 for 3 years and have no plans to change.

Cons

1\. C3 doesn't have good 3D support, which could be useful for 2D games when working with cameras and depth.2. It doesn't have native support for console exports.3. The project structure makes it hard to multiple people to use the engine at the same time in the same project, making it not so good for bigger teams.

### "Construct 3 is undoubtedly the best no-code game development option present today."

December 20, 2022

5.0

Overall, Construct 3 has helped me realize my vision and sustain my passion, which would have been lost otherwise. I would highly recommend it to someone who wants to develop 2D games with ease and fun.

Pros

Non-coding, easy to understand event system is definitely the USP of C3. Apart from that i really like how the editor is designed user friendly so that i can develop small mobile games in no time, but the same features also give me the flexibility to go deeper and develop as complex mechanism as i want. I absolutely love that i can conceptualize, develop, monetize, and export to multiple platforms, hassle-free all at the same place. Another huge factor for me choosing C3 is its very reasonable pricing. And lastly, i love the forum community as people there have always helped me whenever i have got stuck in a development situation.

Cons

There are occasional bugs, which are rare, mostly minor and are fixed within a day or two of the complaint. Considering that issue to be nominal and present in every engine available in the market, the only other con i can think of is the limited analytical debugging features which can be made better.

### "Construct 3 is more than a yearly subscription game engine"

November 10, 2022

4.0

The price offered to me includes: fast prototyping, optimized HTML5 exports, an awesome community, interesting example resources, saving unlimited games in Construct 3 cloud, remote preview features, multiplayer feature to try and looks easy to use, regular releases of new Construct 3 versions with features not supposed to be broken once published, and be able to work on any computer at any time without downloading the engine? I'm sold.

Pros

My pros from my OWN opinion focusing on HTML5 game development:-This is WAY easier to prototype games. From me, the one-man team using GameMaker for years (GML only), nothing I tried so far was faster than Construct 3.-The remote preview is a must when I want to test a game on a physical phone in real conditions without handling a hard setup first.-The example browser is RICH of content when you don't know where to start.-The preview build is done in a few seconds, this is the future we wanted.-I was shocked when exported my first Construct 3 game in a zip file (to host it on my favourite game hosting platform). With GameMaker, there was a mess of unnecessary files each time I export (this happen on over 90 different games). However, the Construct 3 export is so clean when exporting, I was amazed.-Construct 3 is really friendly to add plugins from third-party or making our ones, so good for custom settings for specific complex games.-The community and the staff are friendly and welcoming to answer our questions when needed.-Even if I must pay yearly, considering the fact I can prototype faster than GameMaker, HTML5 export friendly with optimization, the Construct 3 cloud can preserve the project files so I can resume anywhere at any time, and a lot of tutorials easy to find, the price is lower than what we pay. So, we can now stop complaining about their price, alright?

Cons

\-The Construct 3 documentation has no code examples to describe what they are saying. Which is weird to me, since GameMaker and Unity do it.-The complexity to find tutorials about how to make custom plugins.-I would enjoy reading regularly the Construct 3 team roadmap to see what is under development and be hyped to use soon the new known incoming features.-The only thing frustrating, even if minor, is I can't do "ctrl + shift + z" when I went to undo a "ctrl + z". Have to redo the stuff instead, sadly.

### "Best Software - Worth Every Penny"

November 6, 2021

In the last year and a half I have created 4 complete games that are available on Google Play, including a 3D Augmented Reality mobile game. Before finding C3 I tried several other game generators, but none of them could hold a candle to Construct 3.

Pros

Pros: I learned C3 with the free version and youtube - I was using C3 on my own, creating my own games in a matter days. Construct is used within a web browser or it can be downloaded onto a desktop. Files can be saved online (like Google Drive) or on your hard drive. The program is every easy to use and the community is there for whatever you need - both on the C3 website or on FaceBook. There is a demo for nearly everything project, so if you get stuck there is almost always an demo example to help. You can write code, but mostly you just select what you want your game to do and it does it. I typically make Android mobile apps, but I have made an html version of my game for each of my apps. I have been a web developer for 10 years and have used a lot of generators - C3 is the best.

Cons

Cons: It doesn't have an easy to use AdSense plugin - but they're working on it.

Reason for choosing Construct 3

I tried Unity & Unreal, even purchased classes on Udemy, but they were just overkill. You can do nearly the same things in C3 with fewer keystrokes. Everything is just easier in C3.

November 10, 2022

I work with construct as a freelancing game developer, from small casino games to full multiplayer brawlers. It is an excellent tool if you are looking for quick development and progress to a final game.

Pros

The game engine has one of the most fluent learning flows, in just a few hours anyone can have a game running and playable. The event oriented programming is flexible enough to be possible to solve almost any kind of projects, and when it gets short, you can use JavaScript to take all the juice of it.

Cons

Performance is one of the biggest cons it has, while the games can be run on ANY platform, and exported in almost one click, the html5 2d games have big problems with old hardware. Luckly explorers and hardware are having a big upgrade and it may be a problem of the past in a few months.

### "Quick and comfortable game development"

March 18, 2020

5.0

I've used Construct 3 to develop short and sweet web games, and the process has proved fast, easy and efficient. I'm currently using the software to develop a larger commercial game, and the experience has proved to be smooth as the sole programmer during these first couple of months of development.

Pros

Construct 3 is clean and simple to use. When developing my own games, I can quickly add new levels and features without much fuss. I've taught game development to high school students using C3, and they have no problems learning how to use the software. It is in active development, and frequently receives updates with bug fixes, new features, and suggestions from the community. The community on Discord is very helpful, and frequently share example templates and addons/effects that extend Construct's functionality. With the addition of javascript scripting, it's very easy to mix block based logic and actual code in a project, and you can implement external javascript libraries to extend your project. The HTML5 focus makes it easy to share your projects with others via features like remote preview or simply through the fast export process.

Cons

The quirks of how project and object files make it hard (but not impossible) to use in larger teams. Despite regional pricing, the monthly or annual subscription plans can be expensive for students or hobbyists, and the free version is limited. It's a bit hard to suggest more complex yet interesting features without them being shot down due to them being "too complex" or the underlying systems "delicate and with a lot of moving parts". The asset store hasn't been properly moved to the current website, so a lot of good paid addons for Construct 3 are scattered about in places like itch.io. Feature-wise and in export options, it doesn't compete with the big engines like Unity or Unreal. There are addons that hack around this, but the program focuses solely on 2D.

[Unity](https://www.capterra.com/p/158591/Unity/)

Unity felt too big and cumbersome for the short and simple 2D web games I wanted to make as a sole developer. In Construct, I could achieve similar results in a much shorter time-frame.

### "Construct 3 - The most affordable and easy to use 2D game engine ever!"

November 19, 2022

5.0

Being, a one man band Studio, Construct 3 just made my life easier when creating 2D games. There is no one thing I haven't or cant do with it in terms of 2D game development. For some times now, I just heard my clients said, How did you do that so fast? "Men that other company was charging me so much for the final product, just because they where going to use Unity...", and so on. So no only my life change sees I start Using Construct 3, but it have being changing other life too with the work I do with it.

Pros

Construct 3 can make your game making arsenal stronger, or just the first weapon in combat. In a hurry you can convert an idea into prototype in no time. Construct 3 consist in a very well design all-in-one editor that you can use from your browser, so no installation needed. Making it perfect to work on the go. If you are not a coder, that's not problem, Construct 3 has an easy to use block event editor that its very easy to use. I you are Developer you can add JavaScript code in addition to make even complex game mechanics. Construct 3 even have an SDK so you can level up your experience even more.

Cons

If you are looking to implement a game in full 3D, Construct 3 its not your product. It have some 3D support but its not that robust and not to easy to use and probably you get frustrated in no time.

### "Construct 3 - Fast, Competent & User Friendly"

December 21, 2022

5.0

Pros

No dependencies or complicated setup work. The majority of game engines require a complex, often bloated installation process to get started. An up-to-date browser is all you need with Construct 3. It comes with everything that the previous version of the software had and plenty more features, I never knew I needed. Porting older projects over to this new engine, is also just a simple drag-and-drop operation.

Cons

Exporting your games to desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux), requires some setup work to be done. It's currently using NWjs, instead of the industry standard Electron. Both come with their advantages and disadvantages but I would've generally preferred to see more enthusiasm towards the alternative.Console exporting is currently not an option and requires a 3rd party porting service, which is not uncommon for many game engines.

### "Construct3 the best engine for making 2D games"

November 10, 2022

5.0

Amazing, I love using Construct3 and while expanding my team we have had no problem scaling the project, it's easy and fast to train the developers to use Construct3.

Pros

What I like the most about Construct3 is the very easy and intuitive way to actually just start making a game, I am Bachelor's on Computer Systems coming from a Java programmer language background, but when looking for a game engine to start making games, I had the need to learn a new programming language but when I discovered Construct3 it was perfect, with my good understanding on logic structuring, all I did was start making games after 2 or 3 days of using Construct3.

Cons

The only cons are the lack of implementing an online multiplayer environment, Addons end up crashing, almost any tutorials from Construct3 themselves and the way you learn is through third parties or by trial and error.

### "Useful for those who can’t code"

August 17, 2020

3.0

Very poor customer support. I cannot recommend Construct 3 due to this. Save your money and learn to program properly!

Pros

Easy to use. User friendly for beginners.

Cons

Construct 3 suffers from a lack of support. Scirra are focused on introducing new features to Construct 3 constantly so users see the value of what is a rather pricey subscription. The downside to this is that they don’t prioritise fixing issues when they arise. I am an app developer and I was alerted by a user to an issue with one of my apps that resulted from a broken IAP component in Construct 3. This issue was potentially costing me money. I complained about the issue on Scirra’s forums. The issue affected numerous other developers, not just me. An issue was raised on github do that it could be fixed. Well it took over a year to fix. For such an important element that impacts on users ability to make money from Construct 3 you would think they would have given priority to fixing it. Apparently not so. This really left a bad taste in my mouth. As a result of Scirra’s inability to offer an appropriate level of support to their subscribers I ended my subscription. I began coding in Swift instead and have since shipped two apps written in Swift. Using a proper programming language makes you realise how limited Construct 3 really is. If you wish to make good games fo yourself a favour and learn to program in a proper language. Your games will be more professional and will be optimised and will run better. A programming language simply offers more flexibility than something like Construct 3 ever could.

Response from Scirra

Hi Brandon, Sorry you've had a bad experience - we do insist all bug reports are filed properly via our clearly published procedures for them to be actioned properly and promptly. We have answered thousands of questions by email and on our forums and overwhelmingly the feedback we get is our support is prompt and helpful. Regarding iAP problems, most of the time this is caused by misconfiguration of settings by the developer. Tom

### "Construct 3 has changed my life"

November 10, 2022

5.0

Before using construct 3 I was doing a normal job in an advertising agency. I was passionate about games. I played lots of pc and mobile games. I had no programming skills so I never imagined that games could be made without programming. Once I was searching something over the internet and I saw a result about making games without programming. It changed my life forever. I immediately started searching about it. I spent several weeks on finding the best software and finally I decided to use Construct because it has lots of tutorials and is was easy to learn. Today I can say that I'm a developer only because of Construct 3.

Pros

First it's easy to learn, I don't have any other programming knowledge and there is no need to learn any programming to use this software.Second, there are lots of tutorials to learn construct 3.and third, it's a friendly forum. Forum has helped me many many many times whenever I stuck on any point. Even when I was going to give up learning construct 3, people encouraged me and helped me to not give up.

Cons

Animation editor, debug panel could be improved and construct team improving it regularly.

### "Great software if your focus is 2D games"

November 11, 2022

5.0

My overall experience has been really good. At first I thought C3 was very limited and couldn't build the game I wanted to make. But I was pleasantly surprised, after diving in, it can easily do everything I need and more. I enjoy the editing experience, it's very fast and easy. Also that it has built in gameplay features that most other engines don't give you out of the box, like platforming, tile based movement, turret, persistence between scenes, etc.

Pros

I like that it focuses on 2D games, although if Scirra starts to focus more on 3D I'm going to be annoyed. I can just start making my game right away, importing sprites and adding behavior. No clutter to sift through, nor extra steps to force it into 2D.

Cons

My biggest gripe is that it only exports to web. I only make PC games so I hate that I have to rely on NWjs or Electron to make it work. If NWjs or Electron has issues, then Scirra bears no responsibility for that even though they advertise desktop export like it's native. I've thought about moving to GameMaker several times in order to get a native desktop export, but I just like the editing experience of C3 too much.

Unity is too cluttered with features I don't care about. It's also takes many steps to do simple things. Whereas with C3 I could make a simple 2D game very quickly and didn't have to fiddle around with renderers, packages, 3d stuff, nor scripts.

### "I love Construct 3"

November 10, 2022

5.0

I have used construct since 2013, I switched from Construct 2 to 3 in 2018. It helped me learn how to code for games. It allowed me to create solo projects. The community has always been the best part of construct, even though the \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] at scirra aren't that amiable toward them.

Pros

ease of use. it runs in a browser. there are behaviors that allow you to skip a lot of steps and have something up and running in hours (not days). But the biggest PRO is the community, its amazing, always has been.

Cons

its geared towards smaller games, they have made strides over the years to implement improvements for larger projects, but its clear this is not their focus. The \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] at scirra are somewhat negative toward their userbase. At best they are satisfactory. But they make a great product so I can't complain too much!

Alternatives considered

[Unity](https://www.capterra.com/p/158591/Unity/)[GameMaker: Studio](https://www.capterra.com/p/158594/GameMaker-Studio/)[Unreal Engine](https://www.capterra.com/p/158599/Unreal-Engine/)[Godot Engine](https://www.capterra.com/p/234843/Godot-Engine/)

Reason for choosing Construct 3

speed. I am a solo developer and it allows me to spend more time on art, sound, design, music etc... Coding is easier because a lot is done for you.

### "Construct 3 May your Creativity be Free! "

November 12, 2022

4.0

Construct 3 was very intuitive and extraordinary to explore. The user interface and coding were a bit tricky to get used to, however, I think that with time I would get more comfortable with the engine.I was able to develop a windows game in Construct 3 within the month I had the software for, which was quite cool, I loved the simplicity of exporting the game and watching it run.Thank you so much for the super experience!

Pros

I love all the features and frequent updates, forums and active community and marketplace. A lot of other code-free game engines don't really have an active community nor updates, so Construct 3 seems more stable and fun than other engines.

Cons

I'm not really a fan of the user-interface, there are multiple windows and shortcuts, which make the code-free developing a bit challenging. Also, I had this engine for a month, and I was able to create a windows Game quite quickly, however, once published/exported there was a Construct 3 Splash Screen,I didn't anticipate this type of preloaded branding, I looked up ways to remove the default load screen and create your own splash screen, however the process looked a bit intimidating. So, I would appreciate a simpler way to create your own splash screen.

GameSalad is one of my favorite game engines, mainly because of its user friendly interface and intuitive code-free programing, however the engine tends to crash and can be slow, even on a gaming laptop. There were also problems when publishing my games, such as glitches and games not working correctly, I've spent over 3 years on my game and over $400 on GameSalad, however, the game just glitched in the end, even though it worked in the preview. The Windows games I made in GameSalad almost immediately go blank after opening them. Also, publishing to android has become more difficult since GameSalad removed the built-in APK Signer. So, I decided to try another game engine for developing games.

### "A Powerful Cross-Platform Game Development Tool"

December 13, 2022

5.0

Overall, Construct 3 is a great tool for game development. It is easy to use and understand, making it perfect for beginners and experienced developers alike. It has a modern UI, and the development languages are straightforward. The cost of the software is a bit high, but it is worth its price for those who are serious about game development.

Pros

Construct 3 is an incredibly powerful and user-friendly game development tool. It has a modern and intuitive UI that makes it easy to use and understand. The coding language is straightforward, and the tutorials and documentation available online are very helpful for those who are new to game development. The platform is also cross-platform, allowing you to make games for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android with relative ease.

Cons

One downside to Construct 3 is that it is not free. The cost of the software can be a bit high for some people. Also, while the platform is powerful, there are some features that could be improved, such as support for more advanced game engines and 3D graphics.
