Prior to using this platform, we were using about five separate platforms to run our courses. That is a relief since I normally have trouble remembering to do it myself.

Pros

Canvas for creating courses is mostly okay I suppose. I was expecting it would collapse under extreme stress. At least the grade book seems to retain some sort of record instead of occasionally wiping out random entries.

Cons

I am so tired of getting a bunch of unnecessary CSV files dumped into my lap instead of being given usable reports. What an irritation I also hate the fact that you cannot change the background colors. And there are too many click-throughs before reaching the Discussion Boards and then students will say that the whole system is clunky.

Pros

I mainly liked having everything for my courses in one place. I could check assignments, deadlines, grades, announcements, and course materials without having to look in different places. Once I got used to the layout, it was pretty easy to keep track of what was due each week.

Cons

The navigation was a little confusing sometimes, especially because every professor organized their course differently. Finding older files or specific course content occasionally took more time than it should have. Notifications could also pile up when I had multiple courses running at the same time.

Overall I am pretty satisfied and have been happy with using it as I work at a University and also used it prior as a student. It is pretty self explanatory too and easy to figure out.

Pros

I like that it is a place for centralized work and that it can host multiple things such as course work, homework, quizzes, etc. In addition, the fact that it has a mobile app makes it easy to access on devices which is a very big pro especially for students.

Cons

While having a mobile app is a very big pro, I have noticed that there are some limitations in it and some items work better in an actual web browser.

I used Canvas for several schools I worked with, and I loved the ease of use for me as a teacher and for my students.

Pros

I used it as a curriculum designer and as a middle school teacher, and it was easy to use; it provided all the tools I needed to grade, communicate with students, and provide a solid curriculum.

Cons

It can be costly for smaller schools, but there is a developer version that someone with coding or access to Claude code can use to create a robust educational tool.

Switched from

[Google Classroom](https://www.capterra.com/p/186631/Google-Classroom/)

This is a much more robust product and gives everyone, administrators, teachers, and students, a better view of their grades and their work.

Overall it is easy to use. I like that you can take the quizzes right there and get instant results. I like that it is usually free to use when taking a course.

Pros

Very convenient for classes that I'm taking. Now that I'm not in school I use canvas for my continuing education courses. It has been easy to use to download the content I need.

Cons

Sometimes the format that is downloaded is not compatible. That might be because of the person uploading it or I'm not sure. I wish there were more options on what type of file to download it as.

The more time that passes, I don't see this issue being resolved. They keep adding features when they should probably scale some back. There's also no auto-checking built-in feature, so people who type in a due date that doesn't match the assigned due date of a task get no warning pop-up.

Pros

It's commonplace among universities, so students who transfer universities do not have a huge learning curve. It also has a lot of features from teachers to choose from.

Cons

Canvas' pros of having many features often turns out to be a negative because users are not given any instruction on how to best deploy those features. Many teachers' pages are chaotic and very dissimilar to one another, which confuses students.

Canvas was helpful for structured writing and iterative edits It made reviewing and refining content clearer though the experience would be even smoother with easier navigation and a more natural back and forth workflow

Pros

I liked how Canvas makes it easy to draft edit and refine work in one shared space especially being able to see changes and give focused feedback as the content evolves

Cons

It can feel a little less conversational than chat and navigating larger or more complex documents can become cumbersome

We switched from Blackboard Learn to Canvas for its cleaner interface, easier course management stronger mobile experience and more intuitive tools for assignments grading communication and scheduling

Overall experience with the app was smooth throughout my student life. It is a easy user friendly and worth every penny. Only need to improve with the slowing down glitch.

Pros

Canvas gives an user friendly interface which makes creating assignments, images, course management and many more things easy. When used it as a student it made me keep up with the notifications which helped me meet my deadlines on time. The platform also works well when collaborated with other tools like Drive or MS Office.

Cons

Though overall product is good but there are some let downs as well. Like it gets slow at the time of deadline submissions.

I still love this program. It is very easy to set up an online course in this program, complete with lectures to view, essays or papers to submit, discussions in which to participate with other students, etc.

Pros

They have made improvements to the options for setting up pages and assignments. There are integrations that can be made that help with such things as meeting accessibility standards.

Cons

To be honest, there is nothing that has gotten worse about it. There are still times when one has to consult the user guide, though this is rare because the program is very intuitive.

I thought it was a good tool that made my academic work more seamless. I would use it again for other courses.

Pros

I liked how it had multiple options for communicating with classmates for online classes. Between bulletins and chat groups it helped make online classes more personal.

Cons

I did not like how sometimes the app and browser versions occasionally did not fully sync. It did not happen often.
