They are my go-to for building a custom look without the custom code. Pros I've used them for many years, especially with content-rich sites where templating and information architecture are crucial. Divi lets me get things how I want them to look (including optimizing for responsiveness across different device sizes), and all without having to install a bunch of plugins or add custom code. Cons I'm more familiar with Divi 4; Divi 5 is taking some getting used to. Even when I requested the VIP customer service to try and sort out the myriad of problems with this system, it kept putting me with thier chat bot that would give incorrect info. I'm paying for a person, why do you keep defauling to a stupid chat bot? Greed! Pros If you are a website developer or have 150hours to burn learning this system it looks like there is very little you couldn't do with this new system Cons If you are looking to build a website for yourself and have minimum 150 hours to read and view tutorials to understand the new Divi 5 system, then you might be happy once this product is actually out of public beta (they announced twice that it was in the 5 weeks I tried it out without them ever stating clearly in the begining it was beta. Dishonest!). I built and manage my own website through another drag and drop system that, while not as infinitely adjustable as Divi, is actually possible to understand and start building quickly. Spent over 100 hours to get a fundamental grasp on this uber complex building system and the overal confusing ecosystem of Elegant themes and started to understand but still unable to create the website I needed. They finally started relasing more instruction for the new Divi 5 system nearly a month into my experience instead of just the old info on thier Divi 4 system. Had already taught myself by then on my own time and suffering. When I couldn't afford to spend more time on this system and asked for a refund, I was 5 weeks in to the subscription and they flat out refused to refund anything because it was beyond 30 days. This despite selling me a public beta system without clearly indicating this, and not providing the needed documentation and tutorials for someone new like me to grasp how to use this incredibly complex system (everything effects most everything in their design). I'm sure if you use Divi already, once they are actually out of beta with all the glitches then you will be pleased, but for the rest of us I would steer far away from a system that is FAR beyond the average user from a company that really only seems to care about keeping your money with no accountability for their product. I've bought a lifetime license years ago and since then I've used it to build website for a lot of clients. Pros With Divi 5, Elegant Themes is back in the game. After some slow years Divi 5 is adding new features, increased speed and even better to bring ideas to life. In addition, the level of support is fantastic. Problems from small to big are solved within a day through the chat with real humans (specifically heroes \[sensitive content hidden\]). Cons Modules could be expanded on a bit, so less CSS is needed. It feels some modules are missing settings. It’s simple, it has far fewer bugs, and it doesn't suffer from the security vulnerabilities that plague Elementor. Pros Divi is a great web builder—a truly fantastic one—but their customer support is what truly sets them apart. They are the only ones who actually take the time to log into your website and find solutions for you. Cons Seriously, I love Divi. I’ve been using it for years, and every version is better than the last. I've recently been working with version 5 (first the alpha and now the beta) and I couldn't be happier. A lot of people joining the web design team come from Elementor, and once they work with Divi, they never want to touch Elementor again. It works and cuts down my time to build websites with premade templates and community layouts etc. They also have a market place where they sell themes, plugins and layouts etc. I purchased a lifetime license and it has been serving me well over the years. Pros I was so smitten by Divi's marketing campaign when they launched initially. The campaign was simple but the energy and what they were presenting was so cool at that time. It is simple to use, optimizes SEO, Wireframe view and visual editor is well organised, the out of the box templates are great starting point and the new AI feature that is recently added does a okay job but it is getting better I must say! Cons While they do their best, Divi adds more load to the websites with libraries, extensions and modules etc. The recent one has cut down on a lot of unnecessary stuff, but it still adds a lot of things that might not be necessary. January 23, 2025 4.0 I purchased a life-time membership/subscription years ago. I've been 'thrashing about' forever, intending to seriously launch my website; Divi is my only Theme. It's so versatile and so capable, but there are some glaring holes in its capabilities. Pros What I like MOST about Divi is the SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVES. So many of them are really top-quality. Case in point: Today I sought assistance from Divi Support Engineer \[sensitive content hidden\] in creating a button that copies the current post's URL to the clipboard. That makes it quick and easy for a visitor to share the post by pasting the URL link into an email, a browser or whatever. I've been trying to implement this simple feature for YEARS(!) but have never found online instructions. The Divi HELP Instructions provided by the Divi Help BOT were terrible! Useless. I'm very thankful that \[sensitive content hidden\] rescued me from that mess. He quickly understood my goal and provided excellent, concise instructions for EXACTLY how to accomplish it. Today's encounter was tremendously helpful, but is just the most recent example. And certainly, most clients aren't up to doing EVERYTHING in Divi. But they really love being able to make some changes themselves without having to rely on me for each little thing. Pros Overall, I really dig the Divi theme and page builder. It has nearly every feature you can imagine. It's also pretty intuitive, especially compared to other builders I've used.If you need to do something that's not built in, every module has a custom CSS area. Divi's parent company, Elegant Themes, offers loads of tutorials as well. And if you still can't make it work, the Divi support team is really helpful and can nearly always help you find a way to achieve what you are trying to do. So if you can't find the documentation you're looking for on the Divi site, there are a ton of resources out there created by Divi users and experts. Cons As with any software, there are a few things that present problems.When adding CSS in the main Custom CSS area, the page won't always stay focused where I am typing and jumps to a higher place in the CSS code.Elegant Themes makes a theme called Extra, which includes the Divi Builder. Extra is specifically geared toward online magazines, newspapers, and the like. But, they aren't well integrated. You can use Extra's Category Builder (which is how you make the pages that showcase your articles) or you can use the Divi builder. It's tough to use them together. I don't have to go on a search for a new theme every time I get a new website assignment, I can just consult with my client on what they desire and jump right into building it. No two of my sites are alike, yet many began with the cloning of an existing site, then customizing it to my client's specifications and needs.Like all visual builders, Divi might take a little while to get comfortable with for a first-time user, but between the great documentation, the ease of use built into the theme, and top notch tech support, it won't take long before you're fluent with the tools and building gorgeous websites to your heart's delight.Every time I think things have gotten a little stale with the back end, Elegant Themes comes up with a great feature that's also helpful and time-saving. For instance, the Divi support Center - LOVE that we can access support from the theme admin of any particular site, that the controls to allow remote access to support reps are right there, and that one can activate safe mode to see if an issue is resolved by deactivating all the plugins without having to disable them for all other viewers. Brilliant. Just one of the many fantastic improvements the Divi team has introduced over the years that keep making this theme a better investment and a better choice than all the other comparable theme builders. Pros I started using Divi when it was first released. As a busy web designer, it greatly reduced the amount of time and effort it took to create a beautiful custom website for my clients and it was a huge improvement over the other themes Elegant Themes offered at the time. It wasn't long before I invested in a lifetime membership, which has paid for itself over and over again. I also recommend upgrading to VIP support, which I did as soon as it became available. For a busy web professional, getting support in the most timely manner possible is a huge benefit and has saved me a lot of time already. Cons I really can't think of anything I dislike about Divi at this stage. The development team seems to have thought of everything when it comes to making a website easily and effectively, with tons of options that even I don't use, but I know there are many out there who do and who might want to. Every time I start wondering if a particular function could be improved, an update comes out and the team has addressed it. The one thing I've seen in other themes that I wish Divi also offered is the ability to add a featured video (playable in place) where one would normally see only an image. This would be great for any site, but I also believe it would increase the conversion rate of an ecommerce site. Reason for choosing Divi While both Elementor and Avada have their own particular strengths, I feel the Divi offers the best overall package of capabilities and a more useful UI. I still work with sites that were originally built with Elementor and Avada, and every time I do, I'm happier than ever that I made Divi my go-to theme of choice. Review Source JB Jeremy B. Writer Writing and Editing Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Design Your Amateur Website Like a Professional" May 31, 2021 4.0 In the Age of Web 2.0, a website should look like it belongs in the modern era, and Divi, a WordPress theme designed for aesthetics and flexibility, certainly helps your site get there. It takes the robustness of WordPress and merges it with the front page visual design practices of more artistic web design apps like Wix, and ultimately helps even a novice like myself put together a website that can attract the ideal visitor without ever letting the visitor know that I’m a web design idiot who would never get my site looking this way without Divi’s help. In a word, it gives me a chance to compete online without having to pay a web designer thousands to pull off a similar design. For someone who wants the kind of author page that readers might like to visit but doesn’t have the kind of money to create the best that only a professional could design, Divi does a decent job bridging that gap. And because some professionals also use Divi, well, that means with practice, I can make my site even better without spending another cent. Why wouldn’t I want that? Pros Because I’m no expert at CSS or HTML, I need a tool that can help me bypass my ignorance while still allowing me to design my web pages the way I want them to look, and Divi’s whole existence is to make that possible. Having a dedicated theme builder that adapts to my needs by allowing me to edit right on the page is both a time saver and sanity saver. Because it integrates with WordPress, it’s also valuable to have a theme that can turn my posts and pages into art, according to whatever theme I’ve established, with just a few tweaks to my page frames. It also helps that it comes with many design options from text layouts to image layouts to all sorts of integrations, not to mention the many plugins designed to enhance Divi’s functionality, and I can’t help but wonder what Divi can’t do for my website (besides creating interesting data tables). Cons Although Divi does a lot out of the box, it doesn’t do enough without add-on support from other plugins, so the costs can rack up when you start building your site. Fortunately, this will iron itself out over time, but paying for one-year licenses, lifetime licenses, and unlimited site licenses for several plugins can become an exercise in juggling priorities that may prove exhausting in time. For the cost of a lifetime license, it would be nice if it had a few more native integrations that other plugins have to bring to the table for yet another cost. I also find that it can be slow to save and load pages in design mode, and sometimes that means having to reload a page just to get it to open the first time. I’m sure that’s related to hosting more than anything, but it does speak to the need for good hosting, and their recommended host, Flywheel, isn’t necessarily the cheapest provider on the block. I’ve also discovered a critical bug (that I’ve since passed on to Divi, and they’re addressing it, hence my high score for customer service) that can delete themes from pages during saves if too many are active, which doesn’t help those with lots of pages of variable designs. But again, they’re addressing it, so hopefully this is no longer an issue by the time this review goes live. At any rate, they have the kind of customer support team that keeps asking questions until the problem is clear, so I feel confident that this product will suit the majority of my needs in time. I'm a marketer and content creator. Not a developer, not a graphic designer. Divi is easy to use and lets me handle the content, development and design, by myself. I don't need to learn to code CSS and HTML, or hire a developer, because Divi offers plenty of options to build a site and I'm not left wishing for more options or running into limitations that would require custom development. I don't need to buy and learn Adobe design products, or hire a designer, because Divi has incredible flexibility and a huge range of design options for any web page - and for anything my clients request. I don't need to manage developers and designers and their projects most of the time. Yet I still have the flexibility to bring them into projects that require development or design skills beyond what I can do myself. Pros I use Divi for my client websites because it's a theme I can stick with over the years and not have to redo the sites later. Elegant Themes' management is solid and the company is well-run. Their product development adds useful features and impressive innovations at a steady clip and doesn't fall behind the market. My clients consistently find it easy to learn how to add or edit a page themselves on their own site in Divi. Divi's tech support is responsive and helpful. Their videos make it easy to learn and adopt new features on the same day they are released (!) so that I don't fall behind. Their market share is growing, the user groups are growing, the marketplace of add-on products is growing, the number of online training resources is growing. Overall, Divi is a solid and proven business choice. And it's fun to use. Cons Twice in the last 3-4 years I've encountered super-geeky software conflict issues that have cost many hours of troubleshooting and tech support time, where the source of the problem turned out to be obscure. They don't make it easy to get their advanced support team involved. On one of the issues they declined to speak directly with SiteGround hosting to troubleshoot something together more efficiently, instead leaving me to copy-paste insanely technical info and questions back and forth to the two advanced tech support teams (and SiteGround declined to speak directly to Divi's techs as well...). A better escalation and resolution process for advanced technical issues is needed.
