It is a great program and does what it is designed to do. Simple to use and navigate. Pros We have been using the software for about 30 years and love the ease of use. Makes tax return preparation easy. Cons The errors have always been a bit odd. I think they should show the item number of the error for each error. They are at times, cryptic. Pros This was an easy to use product that works in well with our business systems. Cons However, when there are any problems with the program or questions we have it is difficult to get in contact with someone who is able to help. The email response is usually received the next day and if it is not the perfect answer or the team don't have follow up questions, it can take up to a week or two to fix something that could have been a 5 minute phonecall. June 24, 2025 2.0 Overall, if there was any comparable product, we would be using it, due to the complete failure in administrative support. Pros Performs adequately for HandiLedger and HandiTax. Cons Lack of ability to modify settings and layout and user controls. Add-on services are prohibitively expensive. Complete and utter rubbish for administrative support. We are only a small practice with 3 full time employees and 1 casual employee. We have not moved to the cloud so I don't know how the products work in the cloud. We use Practice Manager, Time and Billing, Handiledger, Handiregister, Handitrust and Handitax. We are happy with the products and have no intention of changing. Pros I like practice manager because it brings everything together in one place. I like the workpapers facility. Although we do not use the workpapers provided by the workpapers program, it enables us to attach our own work papers. I like that we can store documents electronically. It is the only accounting software I have used and I am happy with it so I have never looked at any other software. Cons It is not that I like it the least, it is that I know the least, and that is how to get a lot of the reports that you can get from the software. However, everytime there is a presentation, or some tips and hints are emailed in a newsletter, there is always something new learnt. As mentioned previously, one of the hardest things to do, is changing the way you do things, even though something can be done in an easier way. Implementing change takes time. Reason for choosing HandiSoft When we chose handisoft, it seemed the best product, even though some of the other products we considered were cheaper. Pros Handitax is good. Handiregister is good. Cons HandiLedger was good but without Accountants Cloud addons required in the new environment, no one wants to rekey data from other programs like Xero. Now we have to buy HandiLedger and Final Accounts. The manuals for the new Final Accounts, Tax in Cloud, Accountants Cloud are poor. Really difficult to train staff on new software and then you are required to pay more for training. Mostly due to the cost of the software. I have since found the software I have swapped to has better functionality as well. I have also found the software support is not as good as it used to be. Pros I like the fact that it is a well integrated system if you get several modules. Easy to install on desktop & workstations. Mostly user friendly. Cons The online Appstream Access is very slow to load up & is more susceptible to internet speeds or congestion. SuperFund software is not very practical for SMSF's with real property acquisitions & sales. Practice security means we can set different levels of access. Document storage has meant we can keep emails and signed documents within reach so less paper and no leaving your desk to review historic work. Dont use enough of the features but what we use is reliable. Pros Have used Handi for many years. The interactive modules means we have Tax, Ledger, Time and Billing along with Document storage and also a Practice Management module so you can move between any of the modules quickly and easily. Cons After 11 years of use have just found this last year more glitches with downloading from MYOB and other software and have no Australian phone support service. For the 2021 tax year, i tried integrating to Handitax Cloud and Final Accounts, what a complete waste of time and changed back to server version. Have just looked agains for 2022 tax season and still lacks functionality, therefore not likely to move over to cloud once again. Am now looking for alternative tax and financial preparation software Pros The database integration on the server version between modules is seemless. Easy product to install, setup and use. Cons No features that would enhance the server version. With Handisoft Tax cloud, the integration was a disaster. The cloud functionality is pale in comparasion to server version. Various things did not integrate and transfer over, like spouse details. The cloud lacks basic fnunctions that all accountants will need. You can not delete clients if the tax return has been lodged that was transferred over form server version. Had a very good relationship with the original developer \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] and loved the time difference between NSW and WA for support and development reasons. Many of the early improvement came from some of our requests for additional features. Pros Ease of use by multiple users, prior to retiring I had up to 10 users using Handi-Tax, Time and Billing, Practice Manager. Cons Cost. My current issue is with not being able to access prior years files without paying for the current years programs which I no longer use in retirement. As a retired practitioner lodging approx. 100 returns and less than 30 corporate and business clients I now find it too expensive to maintain and have switched to using QuickBooks Online and LodgeiT. Tax and Ledger we have used since 1990 and are vey happy with the ease in which they can be used. Support is very good as well. Payroll we have used for only the last 2 years and the support is excellent usually within 10 mins of sending my queries by email I get an answer. Would highly recommend these software programs. Pros Each year, it gets better - fewer system errors and more functionality. Cons I use both the cloud version and a hosted version and the cloud version is rubbish. I constantly have issues logging in and there is zero out-of-hours customer support - even their sales team is available more often than customer support, so it shows you where the company's priorities lie.
