But i think without the zoom recording alongside the transcripts, they are not much help for our needs. It would be interesting to see how this app's transcriptions compare with competitors like Fathom. Pros With so many zoom meetings, it's really helpful to be able to search transcripts to see who said what, or what the final word was on a discussion. Cons The AI transcription could be a lot better. The punctuation is off and maybe people talk too fast but it's rarely accurate. You have to do a lot of deciphering to determine what people we really saying, or listen along with the zoom recording. I don't know if all ai note taking apps are like this though. I also wish that it would capture everyone's name from the zoom meetings, for some reason only some names are captured and others are just listed as "Speaker 1" or "Speaker 2",etc. Review Source Christopher T. Board Game Designer Design Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Otter is the best app for people who are bad at taking notes" October 13, 2020 4.0 I use Otter whenever I am playtesting my board games. I open the app, set it down, push record, and then I’m able to be involved with the people sitting at the table and give them my full attention. I never have to worry about writing down notes that I don’t understand or can’t read later on because Otter has taken care of it all for me. Pros Being able to set my phone down and hold a conversation without having to pause and write stuff down. I love being able to replay the recording while reading what Otter typed up and edit it if there were any errors. I also loved how it somehow recognizes who is speaking and assigns colors and separates their dialogue in the transcript automatically. Cons Since this is an AI assistant that responds to voice, there are bound to be problems. Otter is not perfect. People with accents and people that sound a lot alike don’t always register right on the transcript. However, it is so simple to edit your transcript afterwards, this issue becomes a non-issue. " February 22, 2021 5.0 It is just a wonderful experience and I will continue using the software for a long time I think, that is because of the friendly user interface and accessibility of using its feature. The software gets the work done for me in very good quality and precision. It was the first software to use in this subtitles field and I don't admit using it. Depending on the software and some modifications on my own, the result is very satisfying. Pros Otter helps me, as a student or a freelancer, to get a written transcription of a written text. This is helpful because I don't normally write out my learning videos subtitles and even if want to focus on the text not watching the overall video. Having any of my visuals audio written and have the ability to edit it is something impressive and saves a lot of time. I am looking forward to gaining more experience with the software and using it for my freelancing work. The software has good features to edit, highlight the text. Even if I want to upload an image or insert a comment, all of that is easy to use. It has access to different applications like zoom, which is very nice. Cons The software has a few cons, like taking some time to upload the file, but it sends me a notification while it is done. In the end, it is already a software which has some issue with accuracy especially with difficult accent cases and background noise . Review Source aS andrew S. " April 19, 2020 4.0 Otter helps me solve the problem of transcribing interviews, and allowing me to write copy by talking. My overall experience has been great. Pros What I like most about otter as a specialized email copywriter is it allows me to talk my copy out loud, and have it automatically transcribed for me. This especially helps when my hands sore, and I want to keep on writing. I also use it for transcribing client interviews. Cons The thing I like least about the software is because it's A.I. the transcription is far from perfect. There's always tons of errors. Still it saves a lot of time transcribing it yourself. I think the best thing about it is that you can begin recording and then the app continues to transcribe it in the background. So while i love the accuracy of transcription, i enjoy the recording feature as well. In fact I remember a client of mine said something about 16 thousand but when i read the transcription it was written as 60 thousand and I was like, this must be a mistake so I heard the audio and yes! it was 60 thousand and because i couldnt believe it, so i asked the client again to confirm if it was sixteen or sixty and he said "oh yea yea its sixty"... i'm not planning to move away from Otter AI Pros The transcription feature is so amazing! I have used it so many times to understand what the client meeting was all about especially when building proposals. Cons Have yet to find a problem in the app. I mean it has a quick widget on iOS also! Review Source CB Carrie B. If they cannot fix your problem, they ghost you. Pros What they say they can do is great. Unfortunately, the support is horrific. Cons I purchased Otter a year ago. I was able to transcribe a few videos. Then in early spring I tried to transcribe the rest of my videos. They would not upload. I went back and forth with support trying to get this fixed. The issue was not fixed and I was told it was being forwarded to someone else. No one ever got back to me and it has been a month. I sent another email and still no response. Works well on mobile (for recording & playback; you may want something bigger for interrogating recordings). Pros Combines audio recording with transcription. This is useful as it enables you to search your recording for phrases or keywords. Being able to click on any section of the transcription text & hear that part of the recording is also helpful. Pros It just works so well. The quality of transcription is great even with my Scottish accent which sometimes troubles transcription software and the app works so well too. Cons Nothing, honestly. And the fact that it as such a great free level makes it insane value. It is easy to use and extremely accurate. It gives me full control and is more cost effective than a human-transcription service. Pros In South Africa there are many accents and Otter has been excellent at decoding these accents. The tool is very accurate and editing is easy especially with the various playback options. The interface is clean and easy to use. Cons For the purposes I use it for Otter has the functionality I need. I really can't think of things I don't like. The interface and bubble style interface for identifying speakers are super useful. Being able to train the software to recognize your own or other voices is also quite useful. Allows you to focus on the meeting or discussion, and worry about detailed notes later on. Pros This is a life-saver when a transcription of an interview or discussion is needed. It allows cross-checking of notes after a meeting, and even splits audio by speaker. Cons Nothing really negative about Otter AI - it has a great set of features and covers everything we need. I love the time stamp because that enables me to create chapter headings based on them. I post my podcast both on Buzzsprout and Youtube, so this is very helpful. And I can use the transcript for both, as well. I also like the various options for export, which include Word, clipboard, Txt, PDF or SRT. Pros I like how easy it is to use. If you have to worry if there will be missing parts and frequently incorrectly transcribed words, it makes the use of it void. Pros It was easy to link up to Zoom and read through the transcription. Cons The transcriptions that were given were often cut off and incorrect, so having to go over them again, including the summary made using Otter void. At least the free version.
