### "Camtasia makes technical storytelling much easier"

April 30, 2026

4.0

Overall, Camtasia has been a high-value part of my workflow. It has significantly reduced the time I spend creating administrative documentation by allowing me to replace lengthy written PRDs with concise, high-fidelity video walkthroughs. In practice, that has helped me turn around deliverables much faster than larger competitors while still giving clients a polished, clear explanation of the software. Although the pricing is high and rendering can be resource-intensive, the time savings, presentation quality, and reliability have made it a worthwhile investment for my business.

Pros

Camtasia makes it easy to combine screen recordings, PowerPoint slides, and external images in a single project, which is essential for my consulting deliverables. It helps me produce client-ready software overviews much faster than traditional video editors do, and features like cursor smoothing and callouts add a polished, professional feel without requiring a lengthy editing process. As a one-person agency, I also value reliability, and in my experience, Camtasia has been a stable and dependable part of my workflow for the past five years.

Cons

Camtasia is expensive for a solo operator. Between the license cost and annual maintenance fees, I often find myself evaluating leaner alternatives, even though I still consider it a top-tier product in terms of output quality. It is also fairly demanding on system resources during rendering, which can slow down other intensive local workloads. In my case, that is especially noticeable when I am running AI-heavy processes on the same machine.

### "My Go-To Video Creation Tool"

November 7, 2025

4.0

It's my favorite tool for personal projects and work projects. The webinars that they offer are very good and they are actually live. Not a pre-recorded playing of something perfected and manicured.

Pros

This is the easiest video editing software out there. The user interface is more intuitive than PremierePro. They also continue to improve the product but adding things into the Media Library and the transitions and annotations are slick and professional. I like that you can create mp4, m4a, gif and html compatible packages as output. The visualization of the audio clips makes it easy to clip and silence sections as needed. You can record your screen which makes it very useful for any training or teaching needs.

Cons

You have to pay for a subscription have the software from now on. That means it's a rolling cost. Also you need additional RAM and a decent graphics card if you edit something longer than, say, 1 minute long. Otherwise "normal" corporate laptop with crash out from the strain that the program demands.

Switched from

[Adobe Premiere Pro](https://www.capterra.com/p/233456/Adobe-Premiere-Pro/)

It's much easier to use. The learning curve is less.

### "Good features with many frustrations"

April 10, 2026

3.0

There are real gems, like the cursor editability, but a large number of frustrations. I did experiment with Camtasia Audiate, but didn't find it particularly useful. The AI voice generation took so much editing of the script to get emphasis in the right places, and still so clearly sounded like AI - I did a comparison with ElevenLabs, expecting similar results, and found that I didn't need to make any edits to the original script to get back something that sounded far more natural. I find it's got really nice features in a frustrating user interface with some strange limitations.

Pros

Being able to edit or create new cursor paths and smooth the cursor between clips is really helpful. I can see being able to create in-video quizzes useful, though I haven't actually needed to do this. Pan-and-zoom is easy to do once you know how, nice and easy to split and trim clips and edit clip speed.

Cons

Can't play back at half-speed for editing - you can speed up playback, but it would be really helpful to me if I could play it slower to pinpoint moments without having to do it frame by frame. I don't find some of it very intuitive - I managed to get the audio captioned on the audio track once, which was really helpful, but I've never managed to since. I find it really hard to zoom in to the right place on the canvas and there don't seem to be scroll bars to move it once I'm zoomed in, so I end up zooming in and out again and again to try and see the area I want to. I waste more time than I'd like battling with the UI.

### "Camtasia 2026"

November 28, 2025

5.0

10/10 experience with Camtasia! In face, we also use audiate and snag it! We love the whole suite of products!

Pros

I w never really had to speak with customer service when it’s come to Camtasia, however I met the Camtasia team at DevLearn and thought they were wonderful! So if their \[sensitive content hidden\] we support is anything like the team and DevLearn, I’m sure they are great! I absolutely love how easy Camtasia is to use to edit and record videos! Also, it’s so intuitively! Their training that I believe happens weekly/monthly is so easy to follow and usually really helpful!

Cons

I do t particularly like that it seems like everything is an add on! I really want the new assets with my subscription but not sure I’ll use it enough to pay that price.

### "A great video editing tool"

June 9, 2025

4.0

A great editing tool that's not overly complicated to learn or use. You can produce to complex videos if you wanted, and also striking, engaging tutorial videos.

Pros

The UI for Camtasia is not a big learning curve like other editors. Whilst it seems more simple compared to other editors, Camtasia gives you a lot of features to create great content. The screen recorder is an excellent tool and produces great screen recordings. Camtasia comes with a large amount of tools such as transitions, effects, colour grading, behaviours and assets. AI features are very good in Camtasia and always improving.

Cons

Lack of audio editing features. There are audio editing features available, but it lacks some key features which are the norm across other editing tools, like merging tracks so two audio tracks blend together, or use of AI to extend a audio tracks, so you can have one audio track, and extend across the length of the video and it will automatically create you are longer track.

### "Customer support sucks"

June 4, 2025

1.0

I thought it was inexpensive but with constant need to upgrade, it's not. I now absolutely hate this software and don't trust the company.

Pros

I had years of using Avid and Premiere. For my own personal use I wanted something inexpensive and easy to use. This USED to fit that bill.

Cons

After very short order, the SW doesn't work. The company won't help you with support cuz they want you to upgrade. I use it so little, it isn't worth it to me. I have an issue, tech support won't even answer me and they probably know exactly what I need to do to get my export to work and won't tell me. Their online literature doesn't cover it, and I'm pissed!

### "Absolutely perfect for training videos"

September 15, 2025

5.0

This is such a great tool for designing training videos, and I would recommend it. The software is pretty much straightforward, and there are many creative options available.

Pros

I use the tool to make training videos, and it makes the process easy. There are many artistic effects you can incorporate to whatever video you are making.

Cons

I wish Audiate (the text-to-speech) feature was integrated instead of having to be 2 separate features. I would also like more annotation options.

Pros

Camtasia packs some impressive tools into a low price. It can create awesome videos and has lots of cool effects. It is easy to edit video, audio, and music.

### "Camtasia, the user-friendly software"

December 11, 2025

5.0

Amazing software for creating videos for online and hybrid courses. It is also user-friendly, particularly to new users.

Pros

It creates excellent screen recordings and is user-friendly. In addition, audio editing and accurate captions are a plus.

Cons

Camtesia is very expensive, plus the company charges for the updated version. It also lacks the advanced editing capabilities you find in other software similar to it.

### "A robust tool for creaing engaging and streamlined videos"

December 10, 2025

5.0

Camtasia is an awesome tool that has made it very easy to create trainings around new technology or product launches for end users to follow along and engage with.

Pros

Camtasia offers many video editions options to make content much more engaging for viewers. Screen recording is very easy to do, and post recording editing to remove unneeded portions or redundancies is great for streamlining training.

Cons

It is a heavy tool that requires a good computer. It is not the fault of the software since it is a very robust tool, but it is good to know that it does need a reliable computer.

### "Great Video Editing Software for Windows"

July 14, 2022

4.0

I've had a great experience with Camtasia so far. It has been a great resource to have when editing all my videos and creating new videos. It has great features, and is really to use from an user point of view. It also is very easy to train on and learn. Definitely a great alternative to IMovie.

Pros

I like the ease of use and drag and drop features the most on Camtasia. When I am editing or creating a video I usually add multiple clips together, and the drag and drop feature allows my video clip to fall into place right where I need it. The drag and drop feature is also great for text overlays or transitions and makes it much easier to edit videos and place your video/picture clips at the exact place it needs to be. Furthermore, the video editing features are great, and can definitely be a good windows alternative of IMovie.

Cons

There is a limited selection of transitions, text overlays to choose from compared with other video editing softwares. Although I use the same text overlay feature every time, it would be good if there was more/more unique options when editing your video. Also when editing your video, sometimes it is hard to cut the few seconds and sometimes milliseconds out to create a perfect video.

### "Camtasia Video/Audio Software"

January 25, 2024

5.0

I have been using Camtasia since 2014. Each year, as presentation methods change the team at Camtasia has upgraded the software to meet the market demand. The software is updated as needed, and if you add the maintenance package, the following new version is included. My decision was based on getting by or having a professional presentation.

Pros

I especially like the ease of use, professional product look, and impact. You can find free online products that say they produce professional results, but it isn't true. The other issue is the optional add-ons like symbols and photo libraries. You can save your photos and logos within the library.

Cons

Short learning curve but like anything that looks professional it takes a bit of time to become proficient.

### "Best for software training videos"

April 16, 2024

4.0

I've made demo videos of software in under a day with Camtasia. Editing them and adding callouts is a breeze.

Pros

It's optimized for creating videos in which screen recordings of software usage predominate.

Cons

Little things, like the inability to reverse a clip (i.e. play it backwards on the timeline). The ability to export the audio to an external program, edit it there, then bring it back in, would be amazing too.

### "Great Product, One Minor Flaw"

April 16, 2024

4.0

Really good! Great product if you're doing screen capture videos, and the editor interface is intuitive. Customer service is good. Fair warning on the mobile Capture app, but that's more of a nice to have than an essential feature, and other than that this is a fantastic product that's very reasonably priced.

Pros

It's easy to use, and it does a great job of all the basic things you need it to do.

Cons

The only quibble I have at all is that the mobile app (Capture) is buggy. When it works it's super useful, but it frequently doesn't work for me, which has caused me major heartache at times. It's gotten to the point where I no longer use it, as I can't afford to lose work. The downside of this is that, while I can use my iPhone's native screen recording feature, 1) that has its own bugs, namely that if I record for longer than a few minutes it'll freeze, and 2) it doesn't record sound. The only reason the sound recording aspect of Capture is useful to me when the app is working is that it allows me to visually sync my desktop and mobile Capture tracks. Basically, when I'm including mobile content in a video, it's usually overlaid on top of a desktop background. I use a condenser mic to capture high quality audio, so I don't even use the audio from the Capture app in the finished product, but it's useful to have, because I can separate the audio and video from the Capture track and visually line up the audio with the audio from my condenser mic. So this just makes my editing process a little easier. It's not that big a deal, definitely not a deal-breaker, but it would be nice if they'd address it at some point.

### "Camtasia is mission critical tool for creators of video/gif training materials."

June 28, 2021

4.0

Camtasia was simple to set up, is fairly intuitive and fun to use. Because I create training videos and gifs, Camtasia's annotation tools are amazing. If you mark up screen recordings, use Camtasia. You'll save minutes to hours on every single video you create.

Pros

Camtasia wins for several reasons. They make it easy to capture screen recordings, easy to script and record VO, and provide great standard annotation tools. Other video editing tools like Premier or Video Studio don't offer annotation/markup options out of the box. This one feature has made Camtasia worth the ticket price.

Cons

The software seems to lock up and crash periodically. This is frustrating and I likely would have left...but the annotation and recording tools are so amazing that they outweigh this problem.

### "Using Camtasia for over 10 years . . and counting!"

August 31, 2021

5.0

I really enjoy the software and have for YEARS. I am always recommending Camtasia to my clients who want to do little DIY video projects - and have converted them to users/followers as well. Tech support is always very helpful and the tutorial videos they provide - along with live webinars - are very helpful.

Pros

The visual interface is (in our opinion) the best feature. Techsmith keeps adding more features that make it eas(ier) to produce professional-quality videos for my clients in a short amount of time. I especially enjoy the ability to create Client Libraries (frequently used tools, fonts, effects, music, assets, etc.) as this helps build consistence between clients & projects.

Cons

Transitions are a bit frustrating for my types of projects. They have added many new effects and transitions to their latest release (which are all very cool). My clients prefer the subtle and non-flashy transitions and besides the fade and a few others, there are few to really choose from that help the video stand out (without really standing out :).

### "Best Video Editor for People in Beginners - Intermediate stage"

March 13, 2022

5.0

Pros

Ease of use - after (of course) going through a few tutorials you can see the power of Camtasia while using it for editing videos. I have been using it for more than 5 years now for creating videos (for my YouTube channel). Often, I get asked which video tool I use after seeing my work. Camtasia is not that expensive if you see the value it brings in terms of quality editing. Of course, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the Adobe family of tools but it does its job really well. It's capacity to create 'favorites' on any custom animation I create, specific graphics, tools within Camtasia - is a game changer. I only have to go to my 'Favorites' folder within Camtasia because I put all my frequently used tools in there, which speeds up my video editing / creation process. Another pro is its ability to connect my mobile from within Camtasia. This helps me in transferring my photos and videos to directly into the editor.

Cons

Not a con, but sometimes, the rendering takes a while to complete, especially for longer videos. I know my system config plays a critical role here but I somehow feel some magic solution can help in speeding up the rendering process. Another minor annoyance I have is that sometimes (I mean quite rarely) it crashes while working. I believe, it should never crash since my video editing is critical to my nature of work. So whenever it does (not often) I feel bad.

### "Easy to use"

April 29, 2024

5.0

I started using Camtasia in the early 20 teens. It was a struggle because I was new to learning tools like this. I have used others, but remained with Camtasia. When updated versions came out they did not interrupt my ability to work or cause problems as updates can sometimes do. The tutorials make learning easy as they are clear and concise. And there are many of them!

Pros

Ease of use always!!! Even if I don’t use it for awhile when I return to using it there’s no huge learning barrier to become reacquainted. Second would be price. It was not cost prohibitive like some others.

Cons

I don’t have anything. There are no dislikes from me.

### "The gold standard of video screen capturing. "

August 19, 2021

5.0

I create online trainings for a large company. I needed a powerful video screen recording software for walkthroughs and demonstrations. It's so easy to create video recordings of my desktop and import them into whatever format I need (youtube, storyline, LMS, etc.)

Pros

Camtasia was my first choice when purchasing video screen capturing software when I first arrived at my job. It's so easy to get up and running. From easily sizing the capture size to drag and drop editing. It's the best around. I love the extensive export options as well.

Cons

My least favorite part of this software is the split between Camtasia and Camtasia Recorder. I don't love toggling between the two apps.

Reason for choosing Camtasia

The price point and ease of use was the selling point. My purchasing department loved the one time fee. Once I showed them what was possible with the software (I used the trial version for a demonstration), there was really no question in their minds about the importance of this software to the success of our online trainings.

Cons

### "Intuitive, feature-rich video editor"

June 12, 2021

5.0

I use Camtasia as part of a recurring marketing campaign that we create and manage in-house, and every time I'm encountered with a more complex video editing option I go right back to Camtasia. It has every feature I need, is easy to use, and makes editing a cinch.

Pros

Camtasia makes editing videos simple, fast, and as easy as possible for non-technical editors. It has basically every video editing feature you could want for basic editing, and is very user friendly and intuitive. I love the transition options, annotation options, and other basic affects that all have drag and drop capabilities. It's also really easy to cut out pieces of a video, speed the video or audio up, etc.

Cons

The upload to YouTube feature just stopped working with the recent version I purchased. My old version still works fine with that but the fact that I can no longer directly upload to YouTube drives me absolutely bonkers. Many others have reported this issue online and there doesn't seem to be a solution as of yet.
