I can't see a better option for me and I would certainly recommend if you are a beginner. Pros Editing is very thorough and I can find a rhythm that saves me time with editing. Screen capture and voice recording is very convenient. I can't say the same for other software. Cons It's harder to use Camtasia on a Mac, vs PC so when I use my mac the commands are different and that throws me off. I'm much more proficient with it on a PC, so I avoid doing too much with it on my Mac. Reason for choosing Camtasia Just after looking at a comparison of between a few different software's Camtasia looked more to my particular needs. Some performance enhancements would be definitely recommended but overall it is a great video-editing/making package. Pros Camtasia supporting me in developing high quality e-learning courses in higher education and training. Easy time-line management made the tasks very smooth and executed on time. The ability to include random quizzes and assignments in the Video at several points in time was an amazing feature that I can't really find in that flexibility in other products. Screen recording (even on mobile phones), Annotations, transitions, and several other video effects result in professional video development results. Cons The rendering time in Camtasia is very slow. This isn't as bad in other rival software such as Apple's imovie. But Still in spite of this, the feature-rich software makes one tolerate that delay in return of the amazing video editing features it provides. As a non-professional, that was extremely important. I love that I can continue to learn and expand my capabilities in Camtasia as I become more proficient. I probably only use a small fraction of the capability and am eager to learn more! Pros It's very easy to import media and edit videos. Extremely easy to do recordings. I love the ability to split audio and video tracks from original zoom recordings. I am not a video editing pro, so I love how easy Camtasia is to use! Cons I wish Camtasia included some audio editing capability in addition to being able to cut tracks and change volume. Reason for choosing Camtasia Primarily because of the recommendation of someone I respect in the video editing field. Pros I really like using Camtasia because when I edit my videos they play at the best quality, plus it's very easy to use this software because you don't have many options to get confused with. Cons The only bad thing about Camtasia is that when it comes to rendering this process can be slow and frustrating, also sometimes the videos can come out with errors and you have to repeat the whole process. Pros It is very easy to learn and use. It allows me to capture a screen recording while also recording my voice. You can integrate it with PowerPoint to capture slides and make them a part of your video. The training videos accessible through Camtasia are very easy to follow and provide all of the information needed to make a great video. The platform is good but the functionality is lacking greatly. Lots of bugs in the system that need repaired for it to work to the level of cost. Must say i am disappointed. Pros The ease of pulling in and adding content for creation. Its not hard to use and tutorials help if needed. Cons Lag time during creation. This software has horrible lag when moving videos into the creation bar and when you try to use playback to edit. This creates frustration during editing as it takes much longer to create your content. I feel for the price of this product this bug should have been resolved by now. The best of camtasia are all the effects that can be added to the videos, blur effect, transitions, and many others. Pros Camtasia was one of the first software that I use to edit videos, it is one of the best in its category, since it has many tools to edit a video, from transitions, cut at some point, add or remove audio, it can also be done zooming and putting annotations at some point in the video, as for the interface I could say that it only takes a couple of days to get completely familiar with it, in my opinion it is intuitive when it has already been used a couple of times, another thing that I like about camtasia is that I can add effects to the cursor and make a more attractive video. Cons What I don't like about camtasia is that with each update it gets heavier and requires better specs on your devices, in my opinion camtasia should create a lite version for casual creators. Academic Advisor Higher Education Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Intuitive, easy to learn, polished results" March 10, 2022 5.0 I'm an instructional design grad student and finally tried Camtasia to create a portfolio piece for a job application. I liked it so much I ended up purchasing it and then using it in work to edit my department's outdated tutorial videos for student orientation. I also created an interactive tutorial for student curriculum, importing content from PowerPoint (which was relatively easy). Accessibility is important to me, so Camtasia's ability to generate (fairly accurate) captions is a huge plus. Generally dragging, dropping, cutting up, rearranging, and creating overlays and callouts for videos is pretty easy and intuitive. I tried to do some of these projects in Adobe Premiere Pro and just got frustrated -- Premiere is honestly just too MUCH for a simple tutorial video, it's better used for more complicated film projects and for simple screen captures it's just clunky and loves to crash and fail to save. Even though I get Adobe for free through work, Camtasia is worth the $200 for ease of use. Pros Camtasia makes video production easy and intuitive, particularly for training or demonstration videos that require screen capture. The auto-caption feature is highly intelligent, the software is much more intuitive than programs like Adobe Premiere Pro. The callout features are easy and helpful and the upload to video platforms is simple. I love being able to upload to screencast.com and include interactive buttons in the videos. The layering feature for video and audio makes sense to me as someone who's used Adobe for many years (though again, this is way more intuitive than most Adobe products). Cons It is a bit difficult to scroll through layers and timelines on a smaller (laptop-sized) screen and a bit too easy to accidentally click the button that inserts a quiz. Editing auto-generated captions is a bit finicky and took me a while to get the hang of. This is really nitpicking, but you can't export a free trial video without a big ugly watermark (though perhaps this is par for the course at this point). Some of the stock animations/overlays didn't load correctly for me, which was kind of disappointing. Overall though, these are minor bugs. Cons Editing captions is an absolute nightmare in Camtasia. Splitting/trying to sync up audio is awful.
